Killashee Leisure Centre: Opinions
Negative experience: I’ve been a member of this gym for quite some time, and while it used to be a welcoming and friendly place, the atmosphere has sadly declined in recent months. All of the genuinely friendly staff who helped create a positive environment seem to be gone. With the exception of the female manager, the current staff often make you feel like you’re inconveniencing them — even just by saying hello. On top of that, the new lockers are faulty and practically unusable. Instead of acknowledging the issues or offering solutions, staff repeatedly claim that members are using them incorrectly, which feels dismissive and gaslighting rather than helpful. The car park has become a major safety concern. People frequently park outside the designated parking spaces along the road, even when proper spaces are available. This blocks visibility for both drivers and pedestrians and creates a dangerous situation. This issue has been raised with staff multiple times, but nothing has been done. The lack of action shows a worrying disregard for member safety. I’m putting this in writing because, at this point, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before an accident happens. This is a private car park, and Kilashee is responsible for ensuring it is safe and properly managed.
Negative experience: Appalling, shocking, and disgusting behaviour. I asked to freeze my membership as I’m travelling outside Ireland for my child’s medical procedure and was told: “If you can provide a doctor’s note / medical cert of dates this will occur for.” Demanding medical proof for my child’s treatment abroad — zero compassion, zero understanding, zero humanity!
Negative experience: Really not great experience the last 2 days. Yesterday I rang ahead to check what hours kids had to be out of the pool, before making the trek over (we have a family membership), and was told 6:45pm. No problem. Scanned in at 6pm and no one at the front desk mentioned a word, only to have a staff member come to us in the pool at 6:28pm and say we needed to get out right then as the pool was closing. Infuriating. Also, it’s listed as open until 7:30pm. So I found it odd that the staff member was squirting the hose everywhere cleaning the floors with kids walking around and people in the jacuzzi! An hour before closing…I felt guilty about yesterday so decided to go back today with the kids, but had my husband mind them in the pool for 10 minutes while I took a quick break in the steam room, only to have a man and his 2 children under 5, letting them crawl all over the place. They then ran in and out leaving the door open and jumped in the jacuzzi. I’d love to know where the pool nazi was then. Unreal. This is all on top of the many times I’ve popped to Killashee over the summer at various times, only to find the jacuzzi closed for cleaning. I know this has to be done, but as a parent with very little free time, announcing it on social media might be appreciated. The last time I went for “me time” and the jacuzzi was closed, I decided I’d just use the steam room and sauna, no problem. Until I was sitting in the steam room and a man whips open the door and starts to squirt a power hose . So I got up and he looked stunned to see me as I tip toed away in my bathing suit. No sign on the door that the steam room was closed, just the jacuzzi. But obviously they decided to clean the whole area and just not bother checking if anyone was using the other facilities. Not really on, or safe. A few other small tweaks that could really improve things, maybe consider separating the men’s and women’s jacuzzi/steam areas. Im tired of going in the steam room on the women’s locker room side, and having it bombarded with men constantly talking loudly, trying to chat, or letting their kids run wild so they can enjoy themselves. Then if you try to use the facilities on the men’s locker room side, they stare at you like you’re on the wrong side. Full of men in chairs constantly and a thick cloud of lynx. You also need to have consistency about how to open the leisure pool during swim classes. I’ve had staff tell me it’s no problem that we swim as the classes don’t take the entire pool, only to have swim teachers tell us we needed to move once in the pool with a 2 & 5 year old. Or that we could swim in one of the swim lane only lanes as there were several, but then they don’t clearly mark the lanes as leisure during this time and you get people huffing and annoyed that you’re in a swim lane with young children not swimming. I really don’t think we’ll renew our membership next year as it’s just been one thing after another. A slightly warmer pool is really all they have going for them anymore.
Negative experience: Ah it’s a very sad state of affairs really. Shockingly old gym equipment, all bunched in on top of each other, some of the equipment is so old it’s dangerous and it’s a claim waiting to happen. They did “renovations” recently and everyone was excited for something decent, and it was beyond disappointing. New combination locks put in the men’s locker during this time, already they are all broken and not in use… whoever thought combination locks were the way to go, is the reason this gym is in the sorry state that it is. A shame cause it’s a great location and well needed in the area.
Negative experience: Very old machines and missing a lottttt of equipments and not organized as well
Positive experience: Decent size pool & very clean
Negative experience: The gym equipment is run down, all the machines are very close to each other. All the cardio equipment is put very close causing the are to be smelly and VERY hot. Aircone is very poor. No proper space to stretch against the wall. They've made some rearrangement with the equipment which was a terrible move.
Negative experience: Great spot to get your steps in for the day, while you walk the length & breadth of the gym searching for 2 matching plates in the weight you want to use. Last month Killashee leisure centre warned of a 5 day closure at the end of Feb for a huge revamp, which would include fancy new changing room facilities and a total change of layout. The actual works started the second week in Feb though, with some sections cordoned off for works, and machines moving closer together so they were impossible to walk between. No reduction in fees were offered for the quarter month the gym would be inaccessable, but we waited to see what the revamp would look like. Sunday 2nd of March, I went up to train in the newly refurbished gym, just to discover Hulk Hogan & Beyonce still gracing the changing room doors. The changing rooms which were apparently part of the "few remaining works" that will be completed shortly. Personally I would've thought changing rooms would be a priority to get done while the gym was closed, no one wants construction crews traipsing past with power tools when they're in the nuddy. The full squat racks were gone, replaced with a crossfit style of half rack that I found quite cramped & uncomfortable to use, especially as the spotter bars are quite short. The only bench press set-up they previously had that I could use without a spotter to lift the bar off, is gone. The treadmills are not 6 inches apart from each other, and trying to get into, or off of a cross trainer if someone is using one beside you, you're liable to get a handlebar on the eye. I informed the reception staff on the way out that I was cancelling my membership, they said ok, just send an email, which I did, and has still been unacknowledged over a week later. The equipment & layout seem to have been thought up by people who have never used a gym, and management don't seem to care that their long term members are unhappy. 2 stars given because the floor staff are friendly, the pool is big, there is a large variety of equipment.
Negative experience: Constant price increases. Showers cold in the evening time.
Positive experience: Nice place friendly staff good gym
Negative experience: Very disappointed with Killashee leisure!! They are increasing membership every few months, staff very rude especially on the reception! Equipment is not always working as expected and the water in the swimming pool and shower can be cold also. Ladies changing room very cold and very old fashioned. Definitely require update for the price they charge. Just focused on quantity rather than quality! Do not recommend!!
Negative experience: Left my head phones in the gym by mistake. Came back the next day to look in the lost and found. They weren't there so I ask if they could look at the security footage. I knew the exact location and time I was when I put my head phones down. This was one of the worst customer experiences I have ever had as staff told me multiple times they cannot do this, saying the management has to look. Then when I asked management to look, they were too busy to help. After some time, staff started ignoring me while I was right in front of them. I have been going to this gym for 2 years and I'm a paying member. Once again, this was shocking experience.
Negative experience: Most machines are off or not working.. out of Ballance.. cable machines have no pins so u have lo look around non stop . Price u pay it's decent money. They could do with upgrading on all equipment.. pool is good nice and clean.. so is sauna and all around. Very nice locker room .. staff on front desk never acknowledge you at all. They never say hi or bye .. wat is really odd .. parking is great and that's only reason I'm in there
Fantastic experience: Great place
Negative experience: Refusing admission for swimming pool without membership when went there today but just couple of weeks ago family used facilities without membership. No standard rules at all just when season starts and there are more people interested in facility place turns to membership only

Positive experience: Solid gym area with a wide variety of modern cardio and strength building machines. Good number of free weights too. The swimming pool is nice and clean as are the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Staff seem friendly enough too although I've had little interaction with them so far. My only gripe is that there is no water station in the changing rooms or pool/leisure area. Sort it out guys please! Recommended.

Positive experience: - Good deals on gym membership - Excellent staff - Brian's classes are super, pass really quickly- he is fantastic at motivating and getting the best out of his clients - Equipment eg yoga mats are old and smelly -Sometimes women's showers are cold especially after evening classes -Recently the jacuzzi has been way too hot - informed reception staff - Sometimes adults let their young children into the jacuzzis......staff should be more alert and strict about this
Positive experience: Nice pool and gym, very big women's changing area and has two saunas and two steam rooms. Lane swimming is never too crowded. Extensive enough weights area, with dedicated rooms upstairs for yoga etc. The spa has a heated swimming pool, that is like swimming in a warm bath, as well as different styles of powered water jets.
