Negative experience: I am not sure about the rooms or restaurant. My son attends swimming lessons here. The pool is lovely, although rather cold for the change in weather. However the female changing rooms are DISGUSTING. Hair and dirt allover the floor. The drains in the showers are blocked with hair and damp tissue. When I addressed it with a female staff member I was told it was because there was no female staff on duty that day to clean them. The issue had been the same the previous week. It is really making me reconsider enrolling my son for the next term

This was regard to the vegetables wasn't it? As mentioned on the evening, we apologised that you were not happy with the quantity of vegetables and as soon as we were made aware, we brought additional.
As you can see from the reviews, people do not complain 'all the time' and the particular manager you spoke with is very friendly and has a good attitude.

Fantastic experience: Great stay. Only issue was our room faced sunrise and we didn't party the $15 a day extra for a/c. The room became very uncomfortably hot in the morning. Otherwise it was a great stay. Wonderful swimming facilities for kids. Good was very good
Negative experience: The hotel has an excellent location, especially if you are visiting Emerald Park. The restaurant menu offered a wide variety, and the food was generally good for both breakfast and dinner. It was very busy, but we managed to get a table without much difficulty. However, we had an issue with the cleaning service. We stayed two nights with our daughter. After the first night, we asked the cleaning staff (who were working in the room next to ours) to please clean our room. The staff member did not speak English but indicated she would come back later. When we returned from Emerald Park, the room had not been cleaned. We asked again in the corridor, and while she once more gestured that it would be done, it never was. We ended up spending two nights with a toddler in a room that was not cleaned. At home this might be acceptable, but when paying over £200 per night, it is the minimum you would expect. At checkout, we raised this with reception. The staff apologised and took our phone number so the manager could contact us, but we are still waiting for that call. On the positive side, there is plenty of parking available. The kids’ pool is nice, though it is only open from 10:30 am to 7:00 pm, which is understandable but still a little disappointing.
Positive experience: Pillo hotel is a lovely place , very clean, swimming pool on site and walking distance to the garage and Ashbourne town. Emerald park for a full day is also very closely located for a day out. The only reason the hotel didn't get a 5 star for service is because we had a horrible experience with a receptionist (Reported). Very rude and dismissive not helpful at all... it was our wedding day and this one particular worker had the bride stressed the morning of her wedding. Not acceptable!!! She was reported and it was highly advised if the hotel wishes to keep a good reputation that they remove this worker from the house of reception as she was not nice and rude! We had professional make up artists and photographers report the same back to us from this one particular person.
Positive experience: We were in urgent need for a hotel close to dublin as we had early flights out and worried about car rental drop off being a issue. Managed to find the place early in the morning, room was good and catered for 5 of us, 3 adults and young 2 kids. They hotel is certainly kids focused as they have alot of kid driven activities and child minders available.
Positive experience: Good value hotel. Nice rooms, good pool, jacuzzi steam room and sauna. Food is not cheap but not too dear either. Good service in the bar. There was a kiddie disco on for smallies and there is a games room with arcade games.
Fantastic experience: Best place to stay for Emerald Park. Best hotel ever for kids, especially those with additional needs. Jessica is the loveliest girl ever.

Fantastic experience: With two young kids, we loved our stay at Pillo Hotel Asbourne, especially combined with a visit to Emerald Park. The sensory room was great, the access to the pool was wonderful, as was the outside park and the restaurant in the hotel. We even took advantage of the shuttle service on our way back to the airport.

Positive experience: This is our family go-to spot when visiting Dublin and happy to stay outside of town. Decent spot also when flying from Dublin Airport. This is a great family hotel, good facilities, great rooms and friendly staff. Across the road, you have some shops and a cinema. Only knock on the hotel itself this time was the evening meal in the restaurant . We’ve stayed and rated here many times before - I’m not 100% sure, but I think the menu has changed. The burger I had was excellent, but the rest of the family weren’t overly impressed with their meals. Service wasn’t as friendly or quick as usual despite being quiet, and we had to ask our server for some extra drinks multiple times before giving up and going to the bar ourselves. Breakfast the next day was top notch, as usual. Swimming pool is good, changing facilities clean, just bring a lock for the lockers (not coin operated). Dinner aside, I’d still recommend as a great family hotel, and very close to Emerald Park.

Negative experience: I will include below an ignored email to the general manager of the hotel, which followed an unreturned phone call. This email raised legitimate problems and concerns about safe room temperatures at the hotel. Because of the lack of care to customers I would never return. Dear General Manager, I am writing in relation to a two-night stay my family and I had at the Pillo Hotel in April, during which we experienced issues that I feel require your attention. Our original room was uncomfortably hot, at 27. 8 degrees, which was particularly concerning as we were travelling with young children. High temperatures can be dangerous for small children, and in our son's case, the heat significantly exacerbated his eczema. We raised this issue with staff on the first night and were provided with an ice fan, which unfortunately had no impact on cooling the room. The next morning, we again flagged the issue and were assured it would be resolved by evening. However, when we returned later that day, the room was even warmer, at 29.3 degrees, despite it being only 17 degrees outside. It was only after a third complaint that we were moved to another room, which thankfully had an acceptable temperature. Upon checkout, we spoke with the duty manager to voice our concerns. His response was disappointing. He noted that air conditioning was not advertised and added that some guests had complained about rooms being too cold. This only reinforced our view that the hotel may be struggling to maintain consistent and safe room temperatures across the property. He also mentioned that the hotel had passed recent inspections and suggested that temperature regulation may not be a legal requirement. However, on reviewing the legislation in the Republic of Ireland, I have found that there are legal standards related to room temperature for accommodation providers. Despite not receiving any form of compensation, I refrained from leaving a negative review, as the duty manager indicated that we would be offered a discount if we decided to return. He asked whether we lived far away and seemed to suggest a return visit would be accommodated with discounted rate. On Tuesday of this week, we noticed a family room was available for booking and contacted reception to inquire about the promised discount. Unfortunately, we were told there was no note on our booking or any record of this during the discussion. We were advised the duty manager would return later and would call us back. but he never did. As a result, we were left unable to make the trip, which was very disappointing. We are planning a visit to Emerald Park this coming Sunday and would love to stay on Saturday night if possible. We are still hopeful that someone from your team can help turn what was a very negative experience into a positive one. We would genuinely appreciate the opportunity to discuss a goodwill resolution and consider returning to your hotel under better circumstances. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Kind regards,

Fantastic experience: Always the best experience staying in this hotel, my family and I stay here regularly and we are always well looked after by staff. Food and service is always 10/10 super fast and efficient. Rooms are always so clean and comfortable. Breakfast buffet is amazing so many options. Great spot for children. Cannot praise the staff enough management should be so proud.

Positive experience: Stayed for one night with my wife who is in a wheelchair and 2 daughters aged 11 and youngest 10 months old.Room was big and spacious and also wheelchair accessible.We had a couple of drinks in the bar which was busy with a lot of travelling tourists but had a nice vibe.Breakfast was really good and plenty to choose from but its the staff that make it stand out.They were brilliant from the moment we arrived till we checked out.It won't be our last visit to the Pillo hotel..

Negative experience: I was very disappointed with my recent stay. At check-in, the duty manager was rude and unhelpful, which made the situation worse. I was pushed to pay for my room upfront, only to be told it was not ready and wouldn’t be available until after I had to leave for a meeting that lasted over an hour. This lack of communication and poor service caused significant inconvenience. The staff overall did not seem willing to assist or accommodate us during this delay. I hope the hotel addresses these issues to improve guest experience in future

Negative experience: Did not enjoy my experience here at all. The rooms had no working air conditioning and it was a very hot day and night.

Positive experience: One and only complaint about the place is the room are roasting. No matter what ya do with the ac its uncomfortably hot. The fan wasn't working and they dropped us up a new one very quick but it wasn't any use. Other than that its a lovely place with lovely staff. I know the room temp wasn't their fault but its the worst I've seen now a d I wouldn't go back again because if it.

Positive experience: The main menu is very dry. The sauce is not enough. And the meal is not fresh only heating with the plate. So the vegetables are rare and the potatoe mash very dry. And the chicken too. But the starter and the desserts are good.

First of all i ordered a pint which took me 20 minutes to get when it wasn't busy at all, when I got my pint it was 0% I ordered a 2nd pint and it took me another 10 minutes to get it ( the staff looked like they are on their holidays) when I got my second pint there was something stuck on the bottom of the glass and it looked like snots and when I complained about it to staff and their manager they were being very unprofessional and was avoiding me at all costs. The manager shouldn't be in that position at all, he was very careless and so does his staff. I do not recommend this place at all, very very disappointed. I usually don't complain about anything and especially in social media but this was out of order. If you want to have a great time and good food with good service, this place is not for you!

Fantastic experience: Stayed there after a trip to the nearby emerald park. Can't praise the hotel highly enough. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant was fantastic. It was extremely quiet at night time which was very helpful when you've young children trying to sleep. Will definitely stay there again on our next trip to emerald park.

Positive experience: Das Hotel ist insgesamt ganz schick. Leider gab es wärend unseres Aufenthaltes( Reisegruppe)über mehrere Tage abends große Veranstaltungen mit sehr vielen Gästen und Kindern, wirkte wie elm Contest oder eine Clanhochzeit. Am Abreisetag um 2:30 nachts saßen immernoch besoffene Spätpubertiere in der Lobby und weigerten sich das Hotel zu verlassen, sodass die Polizei gerufen wurde. Das Essen war sehr gut, auser meine Pfeffersoße auf Hühnchen. Die war sehr salzig und scharf( Menü). Die Bar ist groß aber die Getränke eher dürftig und teuer. Die Gläser, der Boden und der Tresen waren am letzten Abend extrem versifft und schmutzig. Es gab beim Abendessen keine Getränkeservice am Tisch, man musste sich das Getränk an der Bar holen und stand entsprechend lange an. Die Zimmer sind dafür top gewesen. Riesig und sauber. Keine Beanstandungen.

Fantastic experience: Attended an event here and stayed overnight and found the experience very enjoyable from beginning to end. Location is on the outskirts of Ashbourne though so a bit of a walk into the town centre but apart from that, it’s a decent spot.

Negative experience: Haben hier 2 Nächte übernachtet, anfürsich ein schönes Hotel. Nur was gar nicht geht ist, dass nach 22 Uhr bis ca. 01 Uhr lautstarke Disco-Stampfmusik in einer Lautstärke gespielt wird inklusive Stimmengegröhle, dass beides noch in Zi 417 gut zu hören ist. Von einem ruhigen Zimmer kann man hier wahrlich nicht reden.

We always try our best to allocate bedrooms relating to the function nearer the ballroom, but unfortunately this is always not an exact science. We do have quiet rooms and hopefully, if you are to stay with us again, there will be enough availability for you to avail of one of these
Negative experience: Waiting staff need to be trained how to greet customers and properly take orders. Staff were slow and we were ignored for at least ten minutes. When eventually a girl came to our table she said ' Right, what d'you want?" Managers need to be aware of this and correct it. Food was nice, service was awful.

Positive experience: Modern hotel in Ashbourne very convenient location. Bedroom was large and comfortable. However, staff on Reception and in the Bar would benefit from Customer Service training as their attitude and behaviour was well below expected standard. 4pm Check In is also far too late and no effort made to accommodate earlier check-in.

Negative experience: Very disappointing. Rooms not clean. The food in the restaurant was below par. There was a strong smell off cannabis in the hallways. Young teenagers up drinking all night making noise in the hallways, knocking on our door in the middle of the night. We complained to staff a few times but did not want to know or help. Staff completely useless. Also very cheeky and aggressive towards us at times. I have stayed here plenty of times but my last two stays have been terrible. Wouldn’t recommend anybody to stay here

Fantastic experience: Can't fault hotel at all. Only problem was, inconsiderate guests having a full blown conversation, standing around in the hallway outside our room at 2am and 4am waking my family up. Maybe all hotels should have notices up on corridors, to remind guests to have consideration for other guests who are sleeping.

Negative experience: Nice enough spot, but was there on a first date , big wedding on and loads of bold kids running around annoying the other guests that were entitled to be there just as much as the drunk parents that couldn't mind the bold kids. Response received to my review was exactly what I expected. Management obviously don't care about the ordinary guests, just the wedding crowd. Date was lovely despite your hotel, and if a wedding is going to happen it won't be in that kip.

Fantastic experience: Just on the edge of Dublin, the Pillo Hotel is a really convenient location to stay or to host a function. Well worth a visit.

Positive experience: It was clean .staff where friendly a comfortable sleep . food was not great
Negative experience: Would never stay again, staff not helpful, food not good. Stayed 1 night with friends, got a deal one night stay, evening meal and breakfast, meal was awful and had to pay a extra charge on it as set menu was so limited as there was a problem with kitchen so items were taken off set menu but on restaurant menu at extra cost. One person with diet requirements had a bowl of chips as could eat nothing else even though they knew in advance. Changed twice for drinks at meal. Over changed at bar by 60 euro and when it was pointed out was told “ you must have pressed cash back” so please check when paying by card. When paying with cash for room was charged 100 euro deposit. Room was way too hot. Breakfast was cold. All in all not a great place to stay. Only one lift working when we stayed.
Hi Deborah, We appreciate and welcome all genuine feedback. As you are aware, you received a telephone call beforehand and spoke with someone to let you know about the menu options. You also spoke with the Restaurant Manager several times during your time dining with us where the matters were dealt with.

Fantastic experience: I went to a party recently here and the hotel was spotless & the staff were amazing and so friendly. I didn't stay over so have no idea about the rooms but will definitely go back in the future

Negative experience: The hotel nice from the outside inside decorated nicely for Christmas so we had high hopes and ready to enjoy this night We were there for an event which was advertised as a “90s” themed which apart from a lil decor there was nothing 90s about it! The band wasn’t great didn’t sing any 90s music and by midnight instead of trying to lift the crowd (which almost everyone was sitting down) they continued to do slow songs. The dj don’t get me started , same thing he couldn’t mix two song together why he tried I don’t know, and coming from a dj background i know what im talking about i have done dj at many events and have also been on the advertising side and if it’s a particular genre they we will play that,after all that’s why people have bought tickets right? I was with a party of 4 ,2 others joined our table which were on their anniversary and decided to buy tickets last minute, they had left not long after the dj started I felt so sorry for them clearly wasn’t happy, and we spoke to them all of us thought same. The room ours was okay but my sisters floor was like a building site, the handle came off the door, there was an awful draft from the big window,which was never opened while she was init also I had exact windows and mine were fine but when she told them she was basically called a liar. Nice one Francesca you really know how to reply to someone with feedback. To date they havnt got back to her regarding her complaint as promised to pass it on to manager they just don’t seem to care no hospitality at all. Don’t step foot in here I’m not one to review never mind complain about a place but this just needed its own and everyone should know. AVOID if you want a great time do your research first………

Negative experience: There's a few issues. The New Years Eve "Back To The 90s" Gala The 90s theme was non-existent and we were left with confusion as to why it was called that. The room was half empty with little to no effort made to make it feel special. The music wasn't even 80s and the countdown was really poor. It was a very expensive night for a very poor to bad experience. I would avoid any of these events going forward run by this hotel. Bar and Food Food and most of the staff were fine. Bar staff were great. Hotel and Atmosphere The hotel issues started from the smell of weed as we entered the hotel. This is illegal, yet they were smoking it at the front door. The hotel is in a state of remodeling so that's allowed. But our sink was broken and we had to get that fixed. Not an Inclusive Environment Some of the attendees were screaming and shouting abuse at attendees. The staff didn't stop them or kick them out. It was just let happen all night. Despite what the website said. It's not an inclusive hotel and the venue really isn't LGBT friendly in my personal experience. I raised these issues with the Manager to address the issues going forward. He just offering me a discounted rate for a future stay. I will never stay here again, and it's unsafe to do so for anyone who is LGBT based on my comms with Management and that "he isn't prepared to do anything further." Avoid. It was an expensive, disappointing, and scary experience.

Negative experience: I went here for the back to the 90s gala on NYE. It was a birthday present from my girlfriend. The night was terrible. There was a pop band playing covers of up to date music. Not 90s. They couldn't even build up the night for the countdown. After 12 am, the dj came on, who was absolutely terrible. He didn't play any 90s music. He would play a song and not even let it finish and try to mix into another. It was a very expensive night with the cost of the night stay and ticket to the gala. I'm so disappointed. False advertisement.

Negative experience: I booked a two-night stay with my girlfriend and young child. After dining in the bar (food was very nice ) I briefly left the hotel to get a phone cable from my car. Upon returning, I was approached by a security staff member who abruptly questioned whether I was a resident. I confirmed and provided my room number, yet he followed me back into the bar stood over me as I sat at my table and began harassing me over my choice of clothing—a tracksuit. I was unaware that Pillo Hotel enforces a dress code for its guests although he didnt question any other of the many guests in similair clothing. Despite having already been seated in the bar for a number of hours and paying a €98 bill for food, the security guard proceeded to intimidate and threaten me in front of my girlfriend and child, with other guests witnessing the scene. His behavior embarrassed my family and left us all feeling extremely uncomfortable. My child, visibly distressed, covered his ears during the ordeal. Another couple even offered to take him away from the situation until the security guard left. Although hotel management later apologized, their response was wholly inadequate—a mere offer of a drink for our troubles. This token gesture showed a lack of genuine concern or understanding of how upsetting this experience was. My night was ruined, and my child had to witness an incident that should never have occurred in a family-friendly establishment. I cancelled our 2nd night stay as our break was ruined.

Fantastic experience: Only came there for the Christmas fair, but sat down in the cafe afterwards. Very nice feel to the hotel, clean, good, seating area and heavenly mocha coffee. Good amount of parking outside the hotel
