strengthen & tone the whole body and over a period of time prepare you for more difficult movements. The standing poses provide a full range of movements and stretches and can give a full workout. The pose strengthens the nerves to the legs, and teaches the ability to keep attention over the entire body.
stimulate the nervous system, counteract the effects of gravity, increases the flow of energy and brings clarity to the mind. Back bends are anti-aging, countering round shoulders, slouched posture and hunching effect of gravity.
These build grace and flow in the practice. They help to synchronize breathing and promote coordination. Movement creates heat allowing the muscles to release faster.. Great for toxin elimination.

Yoga Republic, Yoga Studio: Opinions
Fantastic experience: A friend recommended Yoga Republic to me a few years ago, and to say it has completely transformed my yoga practice is an understatement. Sackies is an incredible teacher. His knowledge is endless and the enthusiasm and encouragement he shows to each and every student is truly unique.. Classes are challenging, dynamic, energising but also great fun. Having to take time out last year for surgery, Sackies couldn’t have been more patient, kind and determined to get me back in the mat, and for that I will always be grateful. So, anyone looking to join a fun, challenging and inclusive yoga practice, Yoga Republic is the place to go
Fantastic experience: I have just completed Diana's Mindfulness 10 week course. I have learned so much about how to discover joy in life through mindfulness. I have finished with a toolkit full of great resources to draw from each and every day going forward. If you want to do something kind for yourself I highly recommend reaching out to Diana for a place on her next course.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant class in a cosy studio with an intuitive teacher who adapts seamlessly to each students needs. The 90 minutes flew by and my sugar levels stayed perfectly in range (I'm a Type 1 diabetic).
Fantastic experience: I would recommend Yoga Republic to anyone who would like to practice the real yoga. In the past I attended several yoga courses but only after meeting Sackies, the teacher, I could experience the real benefits of this wonderful practice. After every class, I feel in peace with myself, calmer, more grounded and with more energy. I will be forever grateful.
Fantastic experience: Some of the best yoga classes I’ve ever attended. I learnt lots and my shoulders will be forever grateful! Thank you.
Fantastic experience: This studio was recommended by my physio. A really instinctive teacher who will change your views on yoga. The studio is small and has a great community...what I thought a yoga studio should be like. They only teach courses, which was a bit off putting at first but I really felt the benefits in the end. Well worth visiting.
Fantastic experience: Excellent. 5 years later and it just gets better. I can see myself growing old, but staying fit, with my classmates.
Fantastic experience: excellent services
Negative experience: I found this style of boot camp yoga to be the antithesis of real yoga. The teacher was very hands on, and insistent that fees be paid up front. Clever really, as both my friend and I were unable to complete the series of classes due to injury. I would not recommend this class.
We are very disappointed and distressed to read this review, especially as nobody with your name has ever attended classes in our studio. It is disturbing to us that we were informed that you are the owner of a newer studio in the city and instead of reaching out to existing studios, you have chosen such actions.
We will be opening an investigation into this incident.
Regardless, I will address your comment.
The style of yoga which is practised at the studio is a physical and challenging style of yoga. The is clearly stated on our website, in all our social media and practitioners are reminded of this when they book a course of classes.
The “teacher” has trained in and practised physical adjustments for over 30 years. Every single person who registers with the studio is asked if they are comfortable with physical adjustments when they register for a course. This is why we insist that time is taken by us to register students in person at the studio.
Adjustments are made when necessary for many reasons
1.Physical adjustment is the authentic and traditional form of guidance in ashtanga and vinyasa yoga.
2.Bodies which have not practised yoga in the past often need assistance to recognise the asana required for optimal benefit.
3.Beginners often find verbal instruction confusing and so they are individually assisted in understanding poses.
Of course you may have attended classes without physical adjustment but that is often due to an inexperienced or untrained teacher.
We do insist on fees being paid in a prompt manner. The reasons are as follows:
1.We are a small family run business and just as all of the expenses of running a business need to be paid, so do our fees.
2.While being cork city’s longest established yoga studio, we have chosen to remain small, offering classes with small numbers of students and allowing those students plenty of personal space to move. Hence, we cannot extend credit to those who can afford to pay fees in a timely manner.
3.If you go to the supermarket or the doctor or any other service giver, you pay fees for their service. Yoga is no different.
As a studio, we have a culture of contributing to our community, be that in supporting students who have financial challenges or in giving our time and expertise, free of charge to events that will benefit charities we believe in.
We have had a tradition of teaching children, in our community, free of charge or at cost for many years.
People who attend our classes with injuries are asked to disclose them at registration. This is recorded in a written form.
If necessary, we ask to have written direction from any doctors or medical personnel who may have attended to that injury, so that we can ensure that student will be able to practise safely in our studio and that they will benefit from the classes.
All of this is done by the studio without any additional charge.
This is why many of our practitioners are from medical referrals. We are well known to and recommended by, Cork’s medical professionals.
Each student is then assessed and offered a small, group class at their appropriate ability so that they can benefit in the most optimal way from yoga and the teaching of the studio.
We are not a studio that pushes people of any and every ability into packed rooms in the name of profit. We believe in the benefits of yoga, we believe in ethical teaching and we believe in contributing to our community.
Yours faithfully,
Diana Skalkos.
