The gym here is fantastic, and the facilities are second to none. There are two things that I say are the best things I’ve done in life. One is coming to Gym Plus and starting back exercising. It really enhanced my confidence and my belief in myself.
I’ve been a member of Gym Plus for over 10 years. I started with Aqua Aerobics and finally got talked into using the gym and doing classes. I work out with a personal trainer who keeps me on the straight and narrow! The classes are excellent, and the pool is a huge bonus too!
My favourite thing about Gym Plus is the atmosphere, all the equipment that’s here and the classes are so helpful. The trainers and instructors are amazing and will help you throughout your session every single day.
I’ve been a member of Gym Plus since it opened. I do spin class every Sunday morning, which is great fun as it can be quite competitive. I would recommend Gym Plus to anybody who wants to join a gym. Gym Plus has members of all ages, and the staff is great.
13-15-year-olds are welcome on our children’s memberships in our family clubs (Ashbourne, Drogheda, Naas, Rathfarnham, Swords), where they can swim or Family Fit classes. Please check with your club what classes are available. Once they’re 16, they can join as full members with their parent’s consent/authorisation of their membership. Our Ballsbridge and Cork gyms are over 18’s only.
The class instructors have been trained to scale all classes to suit all abilities so that beginners won’t be overstretched and more advanced folks will still get a real workout.
We have a continual loop of member feedback and improvement works for each club, backed by significant investment from the business. We also ask our members to be “Club Smart” and abide by our health and safety rules.
Support and coaching from our fitness team are provided free of charge when you join until you are totally at home at the club. You are also entitled to a fitness and workout review to shake things up whenever you feel things have got a bit same old, same old. You can book personal training at an additional fee if you’d benefit from a more intensive 1:1 training experience throughout your membership.
All our clubs offer more facilities than the average gym. At a bare minimum, they offer free parking and have a pool, sauna and steam room to help you make the most of your time. In our Ballsbridge and Swords Club, we have a full health suite. In addition to the health club-esque facilities, we aim to take the “plus” into our service offering too. This means a warm welcome whenever you arrive; it means a personal induction programme for every member, it means fitness reviews whenever you feel you want one; and it also means a friendly team of knowledgeable, professional fitness experts to lean on whenever you need to. We are a fitness club, but we’re also a community.

Fantastic experience: Gym Plus is a fabulous place to train and get fit. The staff are truly genuine and courteous, the management (in particular General Manager Tara) are exceptional, they take onboard member suggestions and have constantly improved and upgraded the club since COVID in terms of both brand new high-end fitness machines and also floor space layout and design/flow. It is a pleasure to be a long standing member of Gum Plus Ballsbridge and see it continue to improve, never resting on its laurels.

Negative experience: The gym’s approach to replacing equipment has largely missed the mark, prioritizing aesthetics over function. While the old equipment was aging, it still performed its function and came from highly regarded brands like Cybex, known for their superior biomechanics. The replacements, primarily from Technogym, focus more on design than usability, with poor resistance profiles and awkward movement paths that make them less effective for serious hypertrophy and strength training. That said, I do appreciate the addition of a good types of equipment that were lacking such as chest-supported T-bar row, an incline free-weight chest press, and a hack squat—though the latter was just replaced with an objectively worse Technogym model that lacks an adjustable platform. Overall, these changes make the gym less appealing for serious training—especially given the recent price hike.

Fantastic experience: Have been using Gym Plus for 5 years now, and while before it was a fine gym the equipment was aged and often broke. They’ve done a complete refit in the last 2 years with all brand new equipment and floor layout, so now it’s one of the best equipped gyms in the city.

Positive experience: Generally a good gym and fair pricing. Receptionists Denis, Kaska, and Kim are super friendly and helpful. Equipment is decent too and the gym has plenty of space/doesn‘t feel to crowded when I go. Classes are really good as well - they do spinning, circuit trainings, and stretching. Spa area is great too with all the amenities. Some areas for improvement: The PT Fitness reviews that are included with the membership always feel really rushed - wondering if the club management might be putting trainers on a bit too tight of a schedule. Also might be worth investing in a new ice bath - almost seems like it’s broken every other week. Lastly, the music for the spinning classes is super loud - maybe it could be good to either turn it down a bit or turn off the music in the rest of the gym while the class runs. Currently the two overlap which can be a bit annoying. Would also be great if it could be open later a bit longer on weekends so people can come for evening workouts.

Fantastic experience: Great gym with lovely staff, specifically want to point out Maciel Barros, his classes are always amazing to attend, he puts together great workouts and as he takes you through it he is very encouraging! Otherwise other trainers and reception staff are very competent and pleasant, the gym is well equipped with everything you would need and the people who come here are very friendly. Highly recommend!

Positive experience: Good Gym for Value for Money. With some drawbacks, such as the ice pool or certain gym machines that are often “broken”. The air conditioning can be quite strong at times, especially in the mornings. While the trainers are generally great with good knowledge and good mood (Stuart, Mart, Vicky and reception people), there is the occasional one who is a bit rude. For instance, only once but when you mention that the air conditioning blows very strongly over two machines, his response was: “Well, don’t use it then.” Or another trainer taking your towel off a machine and throwing it on the floor so they could use it themselves… those 2 examples are blowing some of their advantages

Negative experience: Gym is GREAT. Their cancellation policy which requires 1 month notice and deduct your account even if you cancel it 10 days before the contract expires - not so good.

Fantastic experience: Gym is really good. I love the classes and the instructors are preparing the classes in advance, which is cool. The classes are not the same every week to be able to work out properly. Spa is really good also.

Fantastic experience: Great place if you are looking to get in shape and have the use of spa facilities. They have renovated the space a bit and it’s more spacious, they have new machines and new classes. So I highly recommend GymPlus, as everything is great and staff is very friendly.

Fantastic experience: For several years I have enjoyed my membership due particularly to the fantastic environment created by the staff and trainers who are incredibly supportive and great company. Don’t want to single out individuals but….Denis, Kim, Kaska, Stuart, Cian, Vicki, Nick, Maciel, Arthur, boxing king Steve Beau Jack, Mart. Stuart gets extra kudos for his programme skills. Only negative; pls permanently kill the music in the spa.

Fantastic experience: Gymplus is one of, if not, the best gyms I've ever been to. The whole team are super king, Kashka, Kim etc always make us feel welcome. Special shout-out to Dennis who always makes every workout that bit better by going out of his way to say hi and wishing us well. Spa is always clean, and very sensibly used. Class availability is great, although I'm yet to take advantage of it myself. Would recommend the annual membership if you're a local as it's a bit less dear, but honestly really good price for D4.

Positive experience: I’ve been going to this gym for a while now, and overall, it’s a fantastic place to work out. The staff are incredibly friendly and always ready to help, which creates a very welcoming atmosphere. The gym is also very clean, and I appreciate how well-maintained the equipment and facilities are. If I had to point out anything for improvement, I would suggest providing towels for members. It would also be great if a “silent” sign could be added to the sauna area. People tend to be very talkative in there, and it would be nice to have a quiet space to relax. ♀️ Despite these minor points, it’s a great gym, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, friendly, and well-managed fitness center!

Fantastic experience: Giving 5 stars because the gym and staff are great. One issue I'm noticing more and more is people getting into the ice bath directly from the sauna and steam room without showering. Pretty nasty when they are dripping with sweat and it's essentially a communal bath tub. Hard to police, there is a sign there but stupidity and selfishness doesn't read signs :/

Positive experience: Been in this gym for 3 years now and loving it particularly the spa area. Only thing to improve is spa area floor could be cleaned and dried more often. There was a guy who came in to dry it during the evening but haven’t seen that done that for a long time. This evening is super wet and slippery

Fantastic experience: The reception area is nicely laid out with comfortable seating and work space pre or post workout with coffee facilities too. The front of house staff are consistently friendly which is important. The gym itself has plenty of machines and weights options. The gym space and changing areas are consistently very clean and tidy. The training staff are also open and friendly. There are plenty of classes to choose from to suit all tastes. I particularly recommend Cian’s spin classes. Prepare to be put through your paces!! The spa area is again very very clean and has a lovely atmosphere. There is an ice bath there too. Advised after a tough spin class!!!

Fantastic experience: Love going to Gym Plus in Ballsbridge. Everyone is so lovely and helpful. The gym floor is so spacious and has lots of free weights and machines to use. Would recommend this gym to everyone!

Fantastic experience: Incredibly clean and a great atmosphere. Puts the spa areas in other Gym Plus locations to shame to be honest. I cycle an extra 7KM just to avail of the spa facilities, and do my regular swim in another location. The spa is wonderful, gorgeous music and lighting, so relaxing.

Fantastic experience: Amazing gym and facilities- have been a member for the past year and a half and I couldn’t recommend more. Stuart, one of the trainers & PT at the gym, have such great, engaging and dynamic classes!!!! It’s such a great spot in Ballsbridge as well.

Negative experience: I have never provided them my card details, and I was told I could pay the month in advance before going, which I did for a few months (paying within their app). I found out only now that they have been charging me for over a year. I don't understand how they managed to do it as I never gave any consent or signed any direct debit form. trying to reach them has been impossible... they are simply a gang of thugs

Positive experience: Very high quality gym. Friendly staff with a clean and well maintained gym. The spa area is high quality with plenty of space to relax. There is also in-house physiotherapy available. If they had a pool they would get 5 stars.

Negative experience: As far as gyms go it’s extremely clean and the staff is friendly. However, beware of their conniving policy of a “15-day notice” to cancel your membership. Quite a scummy policy if you ask me. Would avoid it because of this reason alone.

Our terms and conditions of a minimum three month commitment when joining the gym are clearly explained. Positive experience: The spa was amazing but the main gym atmosphere was not what we had hoped for. We got a day pass in the hope it was 24hrs, but it’s just ‘each day’. Which would be unfair to those paying €20 coming late at night, compared to others paying €20 and getting the whole day/evening if they wish. Didn’t make too much sense to me, another €16 for padlocks at reception as we weren’t provided with a lock. A total €56 for 2 of us to use the gym once.
Hi Matt, thank you for your feedback and I am sorry to hear that the gym atmosphere was not what you expected, we do offer out spare padlocks if we have them available and unfortunately we must not have any spare today. I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed our beautiful spa. We do feel we offer a a fair guest pass price for the facilities we provide, but I can understand the extra cost of the padlock added to your visit cost today. Please be assured we appreciate all feedback and will make sure we have padlocks available in future for guest visiting for just one day.
Negative experience: PTs taking over squat racks (only three available) not even using the rack, taking additional equipment, weights, and bars and doing their whole clients' workout there, basically hogging the place for themselves. It was two PTs yesterday and one today which were doing the same thing, so in total three different personal trainers. Not enough equipment, very busy and not clean gym
Sandra I am sorry your experience was not a great one, The PT did explain that the rack would be free in a couple of minutes. We welcome your feedback and it will be passes on to our teams.
Fantastic experience: I have been attending the gym for the last five months or so, and I wish I joined long before this. Everywhere is so clean, the cleaners do such a brilliant job as the changing rooms are always spotless, which is rare in most gyms. The classes are really enjoyable and each trainer is very good. The staff are so friendly , everything seems to be run very well.
