Our comment from FitFit Ireland about Hercules Club:
Hercules Club, located in Dublin, is a historic and vibrant gym that offers a unique training experience for both powerlifters and weightlifters. With a strong emphasis on community, this old-school gym features quality equipment including Eleiko and ER combo racks, along with a variety of machines that have stood the test of time, some dating back nearly 90 years.
Members appreciate the friendly atmosphere and helpful staff, making it a place where individuals can truly focus on their strength training goals. The club is known as Ireland's oldest weightlifting facility and boasts a culture that supports both beginners and seasoned athletes alike.
Key highlights of Hercules Club include:
- Rich History: One of the oldest continually operating gyms in Europe, filled with charm and character.
- Quality Equipment: Well-maintained and specialized strength training gear suitable for serious lifting.
- Supportive Community: A welcoming environment with members who are always ready to help with encouragement and spotting.
- Affordable Membership: An inclusive club that values both its members and their experience.
While the gym's commitment to maintaining a focused training environment has led to some restrictions, such as limits on recording footage, most users appreciate the culture of serious lifting and the benefits it brings. Overall, Hercules Club stands out as a premier destination for those serious about weightlifting in Dublin.
Hercules Club: Opinions
Fantastic experience: As a powerlifter, this is a really nice old-school gym with multiple combo racks - eleiko and ER. Plenty of machines for accessories as well, some of which date back almost 90 years! (Still functioning superbly and feels great)
Thanks Matthew! We are so happy you enjoy the club we have worked hard to maintain!
Fantastic experience: Great atmosphere, solid equipment, and very helpful staff! Highly recommend
Fantastic experience: One of my favourite places in the world. So many great characters who love to lift and know exactly what equipment to buy. Edited: Thanks for the reply. That's great news that the opening hours changed, I didn't know. I'd love to rejoin.
Hi Ruairi
Thank you for the wonderful feedback. Our volunteers work hard to make the club suitable for everybody. And we’re glad to hear you found the facilities suitable.
In terms of the hours, we are open at 7am now during weekdays and we always review our capability on this.
Please let me know what hours you’re looking for by emailing us at [email protected] so I can understand a bit more.
Thank you
Hercules Club
Fantastic experience: Amazing old school gym. Incredibly friendly atmosphere. All the equipment (and really good quality eleiko plates and bars) you would need
Fantastic experience: Great gym one the best around in Dublin for powerlifting or weightlifting. Some great members who are always on hand for spots or words of encouragement
Fantastic experience: Very friendly and accommodating to both my girlfriend and I, all the equipment we needed to powerlift, and lots of cool history on the walls!
Fantastic experience: Best gym in Dublin, don’t mind the snowflake below that can’t handle a couple of rules, come train hard and get it shape/strong without recording every move you make and forgetting to do a bit of proper training
Fantastic experience: Best Gym in Dublin
Fantastic experience: Best and oldest gym in Ireland,
Fantastic experience: As a collective gym of members run by a committee, this is a very interesting place to work out. It is the oldest continually operating gym in Europe and it has that feeling of a place where there is history, longevity and focus. The people I met were very helpful and it took about five minutes for me to sign up for the affordable yearly membership - even though I am in Dublin a week a month. I think this place as the vibe of serious lifting. If you are a casual gym goer then this not not for you (and I suspect you are not for them - or us - either). But if you are focused on power lifting and bodybuilding then I highly recommend Hercules as your place to sweat, grunt and wring out the last drop of growth from every rep!
Negative experience: Gym never opens in time
Negative experience: Two days in a row not opening at time... Some of us have to go to the gym before going to work, and this isn't helping
Fantastic experience: Old School. The best gym in Dublin. If you want to really grow, this is the right gym with the right Environment.
Positive experience: Gostei
Fantastic experience: The very best
Fantastic experience: The best gym in Dublin. Glad to be working out there. Real gym atmosphere. Greetings from a Canadian
Fantastic experience: Great gym old school love it. Bill Healey is the man
Negative experience: I’ve recently cancelled my membership here due to the new rule put in place by the committee which doesn’t allow people to record their footage. I took issue with this for multiple reasons, one being that I have an online coach and need to show him my lifts simply to progress, it’s quite difficult to figure out what’s not going right with training if neither of us can see what the problem is. I also question the citation of GDPR when they put this recording ban in place, from my research it seems to be incorrect. Many of my training partners and I felt ostracised by this rule and after pleading with the committee to try and overturn it as it seemed unfair we were still shot down. It created an unwelcome training environment as a whole. I have cancelled my membership which is unfortunate as Hercs facilities are some of the best in Dublin, too bad the training environment is quite the opposite.
Fantastic experience: Life-changing
Fantastic experience: Loved every second
Fantastic experience: Amazing atmosphere and great facilities
Fantastic experience: Uplifting
Fantastic experience: Really well equipped, and a brilliant atmosphere, best gym in Dublin
Fantastic experience: Brilll as usual
Fantastic experience: Brilliant place no frills and very friendly
Positive experience: This is an old style gym with more than 80 years, specialized in weight lifting, the guys in charge are very professionals cause they dedicated their entire life to this sport.
Fantastic experience: Irelands oldest weightlifting club. A great place for beginners and people who've been training for years, very welcoming and friendly members and committee. There's a great culture and it really feels like a club as opposed to some soulless commercial place like ben dunne or flyefit.
Fantastic experience: Great gym
Negative experience: Great gym and very quiet!! BUT the management(ashbourne) is a SCAMMER. We were paying by direct debit with no conctract.. but when I wanted to cancel my direct debit I just discovered to have 6 months contract that I didn't sign!! Just have a look on google on"ashbourne management" and you will see. Thank's god the owners of the gym helped me to cancel the contract( they even didn't know about this). YOU SHOULD CHANGE MANAGEMENT, because all the people there have a conctract and they don't know!
Positive experience: Old and not too cared for anymore, but a really well-equipped gym.
Fantastic experience: I joined here as a 5 foot 6 60kg guy.... I'm now 6'2 and 130kg..... But seriously amazing club, has everything you need, caters for all sports and people. Most inclusive place I've ever trained. I've been a member for 8 years because the atmosphere is electric and the members are friendly and so strong.
Fantastic experience: Best Gym ever... good for committed people
Positive experience: Good to work out but hard to enter.
Positive experience: Not the cleanest gym, but not crowded. And people are really there to work.
Fantastic experience: Excellent weightlifting, powerlifting and wrestling club. The oldest and arguably the best weightlifting club in Ireland. This club is owned and run by the members, so it had a great community atmosphere. If you're visiting Dublin or live in Dublin this is an essential visit if you're a strength sports fan. Get in here and lift some weights.
Fantastic experience: Best gym around
Fantastic experience: Amazing club with brilliant equipment. Have been to view 2 competitions as a spectator over the last year and they were so we'll organized. The members and club committee members are so friendly. I would happily join if I lived closer to the club but unfortunately it's not convenience to my home or place of work.
Positive experience: Trainer is a bad guy
Fantastic experience: Really good gym for strength sports
