Fantastic experience: We recently had our wedding reception at the Four Seasons Monaghan and honestly, it was everything we could have dreamed of and more. From the moment we arrived, the team made us feel so special and completely at ease – nothing was ever too much trouble. The room looked absolutely stunning, the food was incredible (so many of our guests are still raving about it!), and everything ran so smoothly that we were able to just relax and enjoy every moment. What really stood out was how warm and welcoming everyone was. It felt like the staff genuinely cared about making our day perfect, and they absolutely delivered. Positive experience: Hello, I’ve been in this hotel for food a few times, always excellent and delicious. But one time I went with 2 friends, we wanted to split the bill and we knew exactly how much each person had to pay, we told the worker, i did this before and there was never an issue. That day the in the restaurant, not only the bill was rounded up, also 1€ was added to each individual payment (without our permission). This mistake happened bc the amount was manually put, however, the worker didn’t want to show us amount on the card machine… that felt suspicious, and our extra money was taken and never got an apology

Fantastic experience: Recently stayed here, hotel is great, evening food was fab, staff were extra nice, friendly and helpful, room was very nice Breakfast is breakfast everywhere, jusy felt slightly unorganised, definitely not the same type of staff that we had at the evening meal, overall excellent and would definitely stay again. Negative experience: Recently attended a wedding at the Four Seasons, Monaghan. As guests we were given a discount code to use. When reserving the room online the system would not accept the code. I contacted the hotel and was told to go ahead and reserve the room and when it came to payment the discount would be given. I received my payment reminder prior to my visit but the discount had not been given. I contacted the hotel and was told it was too late to use the discount code contradicting the previous advice. Was not happy with this at all. If I had known this I would have chosen alternative accommodation. The room was very basic, similar to that of a budget no frills hotel. Was very disappointed with the breakfast, I had the continental as I don’t have a cooked breakfast. You had to pay extra for a cappuccino or latte and were offered cold black coffee instead. The fruit salad for breakfast was fermented, it sat in a big plastic container and looked like it had been there for a few days. Not good at all it could make someone ill. Not impressed with this hotel at all, will definitely not be coming back.

This is explained from the outset, including to our wedding couples at the time the code is issued. It is made clear that our team cannot retrospectively change a booking to the discounted rate and that it is the responsibility of the guest to ensure the code is applied correctly at the time of booking. Our team are well-versed in explaining this, so it’s surprising to hear that there may have been a misunderstanding on this occasion. Positive experience: I booked a one night stay for the 20th of July. My husband was in the nearby hospital for rehabilitation and thought it would be a break for myself travelling up and down from Longford to stay for one night. The cost was a special offer €175. As I went to book into the hotel I received a call from the hospital to say he was unwell and been sent back to Cavan general hospital. In shock I continued to reception explained my case showed them my phone but the simple fact no refund. I asked if I could refer the date and she went to the back office and the reply was yes. However there was an additional cost of €67. To lose €175 of hard earned money ? So forward to this weekend arrived checked paid additional fee, nice room and clean. Went down to the bar and yes lovely food. Went to visit husband in the hospital. Back in room and settled in for an early night. Now I'm in what appears to be a back room looking out on to the roof of the pool/leisure centre. Nearly all night the noise of what I think is fan system or air conditioning kept me awake. I turn on the tv to see if it would help and slept for a while it also stopped but woke me again at six. I had left my request for breakfast in my room for 9 to discover it wasn't picked up rang reception to be told I should have left it in reception, yet in my room told to hang on the door before midnight. Receptionist sent up a breakfast but asked the girl with the tray could she hear the noise her response was laughable but eventually admitted she heard it, asked about the room service and she asked what time did you leave it out and said I should have it out by 10. Now a bit pissed off I asked were I'm supposed to get this information as all the information in room relates different. Now price €242 for a sleepless night a manager that i phone during the week who did reply I am more stressed now and should just drove the 1 1/2hour home Saturday and back up again Sunday. I have stayed in the hotel before and eaten there too but never again. Found the whole response from the staff robotic with no empathy. All about money and profit. Very disappointed.

As a family-owned and run hotel, we always aim to offer flexibility and understanding where possible, especially during unforeseen personal circumstances. In your case, our team did their best to accommodate a date change rather than enforce a full cancellation policy, which we understand was a priority for you at the time.

With regard to the rate change: as you rightly mentioned, your original booking was made under our Summer Season Bed & Breakfast Sale for the 21st of June, which offers excellent value but is not available every day. The date you chose to move your stay to was excluded from this particular promotion, and this difference in price was fully explained before confirming the change.

We're pleased to learn that you found your room clean and enjoyed the food during your stay. However, we’re apologetic that your room’s location led to a disturbed night’s sleep. While we do our best to assign rooms that offer both comfort and peace, some are indeed located near essential ventilation systems, and unfortunately, this may cause intermittent noise depending on the time of day and usage.

Your comments regarding breakfast service and room information are noted. It is clear there was a discrepancy between the written instructions and verbal guidance, and for that, we apologise. We will ensure that our reception team are aware of the correct process to guarantee they are clear and consistent for all guests.

Finally, we are disappointed to learn that you found our staff's responses robotic and lacking empathy — this is far from the standard we aim to uphold. We will be addressing this with the relevant teams, as warm and understanding service is at the heart of what we strive for as a family-run hotel.

Positive experience: All staff encountered were very friendly. The main reason for the rating is value for money spent and the rooms feeling dated. We stayed with a wedding and while originally you did not have rooms available I was contacted when there was a cancellation for our requested dates. We quickly jumped at the opportunity even though the price was a bit steep we felt it was worth it to be near our family and friends for the festivities. However, for the price paid we did have higher expectations for accommodations that were not met. The room was small and outdated, the television was spotty, and generally things just feel like they could use a refresh. Breakfast was tasty but the hours did feel a bit limiting especially on the weekends. As I mentioned, we were here for a wedding and the event space was beautiful and staff was friendly and efficient! Thank you :) ETA: Their digital communication is great, very prompt with confirmations/payment information and also sent a welcome email with everything you could hope to know about their amenities which was incredibly helpful!

Fantastic experience: First impressions matter and the Receptionist certainly made a great one. Personable and knowledgeable and certainly se the tone for what was to come. The rooms were nice and the bed comfortable which is all you can ask for. The food was great as was the bar. The servers and bartenders were excellent. Having gone to a reception there the staff was exceptional even down to young Ryan the trainee..I thought the hotel price was a little high but again if you give good service the little bit extra is ok... highly recommend

Negative experience: Stayed for a family wedding. Lots of corner cutting here unfortunately. The food is poor quality, particularly the breakfast. The hotel knows what they are serving so we didn't bring this to their attention. When you leave your home and pay to stay somewhere, you'd hope the breakfast on offer would be close to the quality you enjoy at home. Unfortunately it's a cost cutting exercise for the hotel. Cheap and overcooked, noteworthy are the sausages and orange juice, both awful. The hotel is generally cold, particularly close to the front. It's just not a cosy retreat. Our group lives locally. We decided to stay the night before the wedding to relax in the comfort of the Four Seasons brand. We all immediately regretted this. We would have been more comfortable at home. We were in a function room for a wedding. We needed our coats when visiting the bathrooms. The bar is a little better as the heat was on there but very little choice with no local beers available. Bar food is decent, the only real positive I could find. I guess you could say, the lack of heating throughout the building is a positive thing for climate change. The staff were nice so thats another positove. It's a shame, the place could be so much better but unfortunately our issues are down to decisions made by the management. These are not things that could be rectified if brought up during our stay. We would not return.

Negative experience: Very unpleasant experience. Expect to be cold and locked up of your hotel after 1am. There are absolutely no thermostats in the rooms so it’s extremely cold, since they only relay on very old fashion heaters. There is only one in the room that looks from the 70s. I am still recovering from a flu, that I got after staying here. I can’t believe that a hotel would close the door on their guests at night, without previous notice in December. It was 1.30 am and the hotel was locked, there were more people outside waiting to enter since it was super stormy and it’s December in Ireland. It took 40 minutes of hitting the doors ( their bell doesn’t work) for someone to even show up. When the security hard called Garry comes out, he stays in the middle of the door and it’s looking at the guest like “what do you want ?”. I was in absolute shock that this hotel believes it’s okey to close the door in the face of their guests. He obviously didn’t apologise or have any type of sympathy for the shivering people that they had left behind . Absolutely ridiculous

Regarding the incident with the Night Porter, we want to clarify that their responsibilities extend beyond solely manning the door and include attending to guests’ needs and ensuring the safety and security of the property. This does mean that there may occasionally be a delay in answering the door. Additionally, like many hotels worldwide, we lock our main access doors during late hours to prioritise the security and comfort of our in-house guests. However, we take your concerns seriously and will be reviewing our procedures to ensure a more seamless experience for our guests returning late at night. That said, we completely understand the frustration caused by the wait in such difficult weather conditions and extend our heartfelt apologies once again, following the Night Porter’s personal apology on the night too. It is unfortunate to learn that the room heating did not meet your expectations. Our rooms are equipped with centrally plumbed radiators, and we fully understand the importance of maintaining a warm and comfortable environment, especially during the colder months. Each guest has access to the radiator valve within their room to adjust the heating to their preference. It’s possible that a previous guest may have lowered the heat settings. Had we been made aware that you required assistance in adjusting the radiator, our team would have been more than happy to resolve the issue promptly to ensure your comfort. Negative experience: Terrible experience, I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. We came here for a wedding, and it made the whole experience very negative. The room it’s extremely cold, with very old heaters that stop working at night and stop working in the morning so you have a very cold room almost the whole time. The whole space looks like a horror movie, with 80s decor, dirty spaces and bathrooms. However, the worst moment of this experience was Friday night at 1am when they decided to leave us locked up of the hotel for 30 mins. My boyfriend and me plus other 6 people, were left in the cold of Ireland in December because this hotel think it’s ok to close the door and lock it at 1am while they have guests. They took 30 min, while we were absolutely freezing to open the door, the bell didn’t work and we had to hit the windows for them to come. Eventually a man shows up and it’s extremely rude. Terrible behaviour, we had to go to another hotel for the second night and just paid double for everything as we couldn’t stay here a minute longer. This place it’s a scam , I can’t believe they are allowed to use the Four seasons name because this it’s terrible

Fantastic experience: Great time was had myself and husband on an overnight break before the madness of christmas. Lovely staff and a wonderful personal recognition from the receptionist made our stay so warming a home from home. Positive experience: Staff lovely, nothing was a problem. Room very comfortable but the tv only stays in for a short time. A little out of the town but we had no bother getting a taxi both in and out.

Positive experience: On returning from a Wedding at another venue at 1am last night (19th) we had difficulty entering back into the hotel unfortunately the buzzer wasn't functioning and all entrances were locked the night porter did not hear us and it was by coincidence he happened to appear and saw us. . It was him who informed us that it was not in working order. We enjoyed our 2 night stay, very happy with food, accommodation and pleasant staff.

Fantastic experience: I rate this high because it's a beautiful building in countryside 19 minutes walk to Monaghan town. Lovely breakfast and 3 course evening meals. Interior was excellent. Friendly staff. comfortable stay.

Fantastic experience: I stayed at Ralph's quite a bit over the years when under pervious ownership. But due to covid i haven't been for a while so it was nice to stay there recently and i am delighted to say recent renovatios are excellent. Fantastic experience: Our daughter's wedding reception was hosted here last Thursday. I can't say enough how good the whole team of staff were. Her date had been rearranged twice before due to the times we now live in. Not a problem for them. Every detail was perfect. We had the best day ever! I must mention the pool as well. Such a great way to start the next day. Thank you once again for making our time with you so special.

Fantastic experience: Hotel lovely, the decor changed throughout the hotel which I loved. The Staff were helpful and ensured our " hen party" was well catered for.. Darren was patient, funny and very welcoming when delivering the cocktail demonstration.. lots of fun had !!!. Barbara was also extremely helpful and was easy to approach when we needed to asked any questions. Food was fantastic.. A big thankyou to all the Staff team from all departments for making our Stay Brilliant... would definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: We had a lovely stay at the 4 Seasons. The weather was blistering hot and the hotel was very suited to seating us outdoors. We sat all day in the front seating area. When we got to our room we saw that there was no air con so we rang reception and they had a fan sent to the room immediately. We ate that evening in the restaurant. Everyone in our group were delighted with the quality of food and the level of service. After dinner, we returned outdoors where we sat and relaxed without any sense of restrictions. We will most definitely be returning.

Fantastic experience: Ideal place to stop off for lunch when travelling from Donegal to Dublin. Had lunch there today with my family. Meal was really nice , the service was quick and the staff was really very attentive, especially for us as we had a 4yr and a 1yr with us. Highly recommend it.

Fantastic experience: I was here for a friend's wedding, and the staff were outstanding, so welcoming, friendly, couldn't do enough for us. The food was amazing, and the wedding was run smoothly. The rooms were clean, and it was all efficient while still being very welcoming. Definitely be back for a meal soon with the family.

Fantastic experience: Great day at my nieces wedding. Main hall for wedding was cold was ok when up dancing but for anyone like myself with mobility issues. I would recommend go prepared with a warm blanket and jacket in the colder months. Leisure facilities were lovely, friendly staff on arrival. Rooms were clean though again a bit on the chilly side. We visited in Nov. Overall though a really good time was had by all. Rooms were a bit pricey compared to some other hotels I gave stayed in that were comparable. The breakfast was just fantastic.
