Fantastic experience: Really class new cocktail bar.. Great staff who will make whatever cocktail you want.. top end friendly service.. Will definitely be coming back .. they've obviously invested alot not just on the building but the best staff

Positive experience: Just returned from a great stay at the Grand Hotel and would definitely revisit. Service & Staff were amazing and the Breakfast was great. Our only criticism was the rooms were very nice however could have done with a very small fridge and the grout around the base of the shower tray needed sprucing up. Do not let this put you off though as it is truly an amazing hotel and if we didn't have these couple of small niggles we would easily be rating it a 5 star.

Negative experience: The reason I would give this Hotel a 2 star is not because of the rooms, the location or the service. It's simply down to how horrible the hotel manager "Gavin" is. He's extremely ignorant and two faced. I had visited the hotel a week before pricing a job wearing work gear etc and a little scruffy as my job is in the building trade, he talked to me like I was dirt on his shoe and even whistled at me like a dog twice, before been pulled up on it, never mind the way he talked to staff members ers infront of me. However, 2 weeks later I came back to the hotel as a guest (bear in mind the hotel was booked as a present months in advance for a work due). So been a social work event, I arrived for the stay in my big car with my suit and my gorgeous wife by my side to which he talked to me like I was god gift and the sun shine out my backside. Only for him to realise who I was when I mentioned it to him, not to say he couldn't find a hole big enough to crawl into. Terrible manager and a horrible person. Higher managers of this hotel really need to make an example of Gavin. Horrible, horrible person, he was the talk of the night and also a lot more people who have had similar experiences as myself stay well away now

Fantastic experience: We wants a group of friends and our experience was fantastic from beginning to end. Staff from reception, waiters, waitresses and cleaners were excellent. Rooms were renovated, beautiful spotless and everything needed was supplied. 3 course meal included in Coast restaurant was presented and tasted excellent. A special mention to Charly and Matthew in Coast their service was exemplary and a credit to themselves and hotel

Fantastic experience: My wife and I were treated to Afternoon Tea in The Grand Hotel. It must be 10 years or so since I was last in the hotel. The recent redecoration/ restoration is absolutely beautiful and the food was wonderful. But what turned a wonderful visit into a most enjoy and memorable experience was the staff. We were served by Sinéad and Abigail. They were superb - immaculately dressed, pleasant, charming, courteous, and attentive without being overbearing. On leaving, I bumped into two of the managers, Natia and a Greek gentleman (apologies, I didn’t not see his name) and talked with them briefly. I could immediately see the senior staff equalled the Sinéad and Abigail in terms of professionalism, pleasance, and courtesy. THANK YOU!

Negative experience: My husband and I had a very disappointing meal and experience at the Grand Hotel on a weekday afternoon. I had received a voucher while recovering from an illness, so this visit was meant to be a quiet and special celebration for us both. We arrived before 3pm and were served soup at around 3pm, which was only lukewarm, but we ate it. After that, we waited approximately 45 minutes with no sign of our main courses and no staff anywhere near our table to ask for an update. The restaurant was not busy, with many empty tables. I eventually had to get up and speak to a supervisor, who was apologetic. At 4.10pm — over an hour after the soup — two main courses arrived, both seabass, despite us having ordered one fish and one beef dish. At that point we should have left, but we stayed. The fish was cold, though my husband ate it. My beef arrived even later, after my husband had finished eating. The roast beef was also cold, poorly presented, and unappetising. I could only manage half. The supervisor apologised again and offered complimentary coffee and dessert, which we appreciated. Sadly, the experience did not end there. The following day, both my husband and I became unwell with symptoms consistent with food poisoning - vomiting and diarrhoea, which was extremely upsetting. I am giving one star solely for the supervisor’s professionalism. Everything else was deeply disappointing, and we will not be returning or recommending the restaurant. The delays, incorrect orders, cold food, and lack of staff presence strongly suggest problems with organisation, staffing, timing, and kitchen standards, which I believe management should urgently review. A four-star rating for this restaurant is difficult to justify.

Fantastic experience: I love this hotel. I’ve been a lover of Malahide for a long time but never stayed here until now. I stayed in an Exec Sea View Room, and while the room is kind of dated, I don’t mean that in a negative way. It was not in any way faded or in need of an upgrade, it was clean, elegant, with old world charm. A very comfortable bed, nice Rituals products in bathroom, chocolates and water and a gorgeous corner view of the sea. The staff are wonderful, a warm welcome at reception and in all of the bars and restaurants. The lobby area has a wonderful ambience, warm colours and vibe, busy with customers enjoying afternoon teas, I was told it’s recently been refurbished and they’ve done an excellent job as you could spend all day in here happily. The Marksman bar is also very inviting, can imagine spending a couple of hours in here with cocktails with great atmosphere and lighting. And you are right on the coast for a lovely walk along the sea or a couple of minutes from the main town which has lots to offer. I always like to stay in Malahide rather than Dublin centre, you are only 20/25 mins away by taxi if you want to go and only 12 minutes from the airport. It’s perfect and I can’t wait to return again. It’s a gem.

Fantastic experience: Nice hotel which seems to have been recently refurbished. My room was comfortable, clean, and had everything I needed. Staff were helpful and plenty of choice for breakfast. The location of the hotel is great - Malahide is a pretty village with nice restaurants and bars and it offers good transport links to Dublin city. I would recommend.

Negative experience: My partner and I recently dined at the Southbank Bar at the Grand Malahide Hotel. This is my partner's go to spot with his business partner so I thought it would be a nice place to grab lunch. Unfortunately the visit was underwhelming and disappointing. The bar was very quiet as we entered, so my partner asked if we could sit up in the corner (as he usually does with his business partner) but we were told a firm no as those tables were for 5 people only. For the meal my partner chose the veggie curry and I chose the buddha bowl. The buddha bowl would have been nice had it not been served with raw chunks of tofu. I've no idea why the kitchen thought it acceptable to serve raw tofu. Is it laziness or lack of skill with vegan cooking? Raw, unseasoned tofu is not pleasant and even the dressing could not save it. The rest of the dish was very nice. The curry was disappointing and had no resemblance to a true curry. One of the most frustrating things about the meal was that there was another guest sat three tables down from us. He was watching videos on his phone at full volume with no consideration for anyone else. No-one on the food and beverage team approached this man to advise that this is not acceptable and that he should use earphones if he wants to watch videos. I don't think its the responsibility of other diners to approach people about this behavior. It certainly ruined the atmosphere of the meal.

Negative experience: We booked afternoon tea for four adults and a baby, and while the staff were friendly, the experience just didn’t match the price. Between us we had two pints of Guinness and one glass of wine. the final bill came to €256, which became €280 after tip. (Our choice) For what was essentially a “simple afternoon tea” with average food, that feels excessive. Shockingly so for the quality and quantity. The food itself was not good, nothing memorable, and certainly not what you’d expect at that price point. When you’re paying close to €300 for a sandwich or two , tiny scones, and a few small cakes, you expect something elevated, not something you could have picked up in any Starbucks or Londis. I don’t mind paying for quality or an experience, but this didn’t deliver either. Nice enough setting, heat levels way too high in the rooms, pleasant staff, but the value just wasn’t there. Afternoon tea shouldn’t leave you feeling like you’ve been charged for a full tasting menu with wine pairings. Disappointing overall.

Positive experience: Stayed here on a friday night. Close to the train station and nicely situated next to the sea. The reception staff were very pleasant and got checked-in quickly. The exec room was looking over the water, nice views and spacious room. This should really have been a 5 star review, but whilst the rooms were comfy, they were noisy and very hot. There is no AC just a fan and the noise (maybe kitchens) started around 5am which woke us up. Unfortunately the fire system also went off twice around 11pm that evening, so not ideal and didn't make for a rested stay. Would recommend you ask for a quiet room.

Negative experience: Went to the coast restaurant for dinner at 2pm on Sunday 5th October. We weren't even given the table we had asked for. As it was supposed to be arranged through Bianca and my sister was dealing with the booking with Bianca. Although the staff were okay. The service was a disgrace. The meals were cold . We had mini bread roll prior to the main meal. It was no sooner put on the table when the meals came . Being my dad's 91st birthday. Because we brought our cakes , baked my niece. At first we were told couldn't cut them or eat them on the premises. We had to sign a consent form, certificate just in case of food poisoning...not to do with their dinners ....but the fact that we brought our own cakes . Quite embarrassing..two managers coming through the entrance of the coast restaurant explaining about having to sign a cert over our own cakes. Absolutely disgraceful. The meals and desserts overpriced and not worth it and it wasn't acceptable what happened .

Fantastic experience: We were given a beautiful corner room on the 5th floor with lovely views over Dublin Bay and Lambay Island. The room was very spacious and furnished with a Super King and King size beds. The Super King was supremely comfortable with excellent pillows and luxurious duvet. We had the best sleep we've ever experienced in a hotel to date.! The bathroom was very well appointed with an excellent shower and facilities. Breakfast was exceptional with a wide variety of cereals, fruits, yoghurt and pastries while the hot food buffet had all the elements for a full Irish experience and beyond. All foods on offer were the freshest possible and all set in a beautiful dining room. I would recommend the Grand to anyone and we're looking forward to a return visit.

Positive experience: Very nice place, old charms and so calm. Only downside is that the rooms are very old, a bit inconvenient if you want nice bathroom, and what I dislike is that they have no European wall plugs ! I mean come on ! You're expecting to have people from around the world.

Fantastic experience: My stay at the Grand Hotel Malahide was absolutely exceptional. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with genuine warmth and professionalism by the staff, who went out of their way to make me feel welcome. The hotel itself is stunning—set in a beautiful location with breathtaking views of the sea, yet just a short walk into Malahide village with its charming shops, pubs, and restaurants. The rooms are spacious, spotless, and very comfortable, blending classic elegance with modern amenities. I especially appreciated the attention to detail and the little touches that made the stay feel special. The food was outstanding—whether it was breakfast, dinner, or simply enjoying a drink by the bar, everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. What truly sets the Grand Hotel apart is the atmosphere—it’s luxurious without ever feeling pretentious, and you get a real sense that the staff genuinely care about your experience. Whether traveling for business, a weekend getaway, or a special occasion, this hotel delivers on every level. I can’t recommend the Grand Hotel Malahide highly enough. It’s the perfect blend of comfort, style, and Irish hospitality. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

Negative experience: We called into the Grand hotel last week. It is newly renovated. The new seating is very uncomfortable. We were very disappointed. We have been to the hotel many times and it used to be so comfy. Why didn't they try the seating before buying. It looks looks stylish but no comfort

Rick Bagley 6 months ago

Negative experience: BEWARE when booking this hotel through their website. Contrary to what their FAQ says about their cancellation policy (see picture), their actual cancellation policy is hidden behind the "info" icon next to the room classification's title. Typically hotels openly include their policies regarding refunds and cancellation in a room classification's title (e.g. "Premium Double Room (Non-Refundable)") and/or an active link titled "Cancellation Policy" is included. As of the posting of this review, the Grand Hotel in Malahide does neither. We were unfortunately unaware that the cancellation policy for the room we booked was hidden behind the "info" icon and in direct conflict with the hotel's FAQ. Hopefully it won't matter and our trip will go as planned, but if something disrupts our plans our only recourse appears to be to reschedule for another time. I suggested the hotel's web master update their website to make their specific cancellation policies more clear, visible and obvious. Whether they do that or not, you at least now know that clicking on the ubiquitous "info" icon next to a room classification's title is going to reveal more significant details than the brand of shampoo you'll find in their showers.

Negative experience: I stayed at the grand hotel in June as part of a group of 12 individuals. I was double charged for the room and despite my alerting them to the fact before the night that I stayed there, they refused to remove the charge. I followed up with AMEX And still was unable to retrieve my double payment. I will never stay in that hotel again and I will do my best to make sure everyone knows about their terrible service.

Positive experience: We ended our trip to Ireland with a stay at the Grand Malahide as it was close to where I wanted to golf + it's proximity to airport. Malahide is a cool town. Check it out.The room was nice. We requested a pack n play for our 1 year old which was in the room at check in. The breakfast was good. Plenty of general seating areas to enjoy a drink or just to sit. The hotel was undergoing some renovations during our stay. All areas of work were clearly marked. I would like to come back to see this hotel when I return to see the upgrades. All in all, a pleasant experience.

I was treated in the best possible manner. Holly, Sarah; and another front desk girl (sorry, can’t remember her name) were so very kind. I cannot forget Pere, the awesome waiter in the bar. There is also a French housekeeper (again, don’t recall her name) who was so very kind and caring. She is wonderful. I would gladly return to this hotel.

Positive experience: Overall, had a great stay at the Grand Hotel in Malahide. The biggest thing to keep in mind when staying here is that the rooms do not have air conditioning, the windows only open slightly, and the Wi-Fi isn’t as strong inside most rooms. You can request a fan from the front desk, which helps a little bit, but I couldn’t imagine staying here during the summer. The rooms are nice. The staff was friendly. The hotel food was good, so I don’t really have any complaints there. The train station is about a 10-minute walk, and the castle is about a 20-minute walk from the hotel.

Negative experience: "Executive" room overlooking kitchens with noisy extractor fans ,broken toilet seat (reported and not fixed) Boiled to death expensive breakfast and reception staff that don't care less ! For those prices and that quality this quirky relic from the 60's will fail.

Negative experience: Room was small dark and dingy with 2 very uncomfortable single beds. Too hot with no visible heating controls. Opening the very window gave a fantastic view of the roof and carpark and the delightful sounds of a very noisy Aircon unit firing up constantly. Service was good though. Have stayed previously and enjoyed a better room. Will not be staying again.
