Our comment from FitFit Ireland about Leisureland:
Leisureland, located in Galway, Ireland, offers a variety of recreational activities for all ages. With great facilities and a friendly staff, it has become a popular destination for families and those looking to enjoy both swimming and entertainment options.
Many visitors praise the pools as some of the best in Galway, stating that their children had a great time during their visits. The events held at the venue receive positive feedback, particularly those showcasing talented Irish musicians and dancers, making it an ideal location for performances.
However, some users have raised concerns about the facilities. There are mentions of the need for refurbishment and general maintenance, including cleaning standards in certain areas. Additionally, some visitors experienced issues with uncomfortable seating and an inadequate number of toilets during busy events.
Parking is another point of contention, with some finding it expensive and challenging to navigate, particularly on busy show days. Despite these concerns, many still find the venue to be a fun and engaging space for families and kids.
In summary, Leisureland is well-regarded for its fun atmosphere and engaging programming, making it a worthwhile visit in Galway, especially for families, but improvements in facilities and maintenance could enhance the overall experience.

Leisureland: Opinions
Fantastic experience: All great, the pool, the people working there, the hygiene.
Positive experience: Fr John Misty brought us here. Great Gig, Leisureland Is a great venue, plenty space for parking, staff nice and it's a very safe spot. Only conplaint I have is, the Air Con. Could be so much better. Everyone was sopping by end of night. Otherwise, toilets clean, easy if you are in wheelchair.
Positive experience: Handy venue for a gig! Would like to see it get an upgrade! Since its such a multipurpose venue for the city!
Positive experience: Have to pay for parking. Was there for 1hr 2mins and paid for 2 hrs!!!
Negative experience: Very disappointing visit today. I brought my daughter to use the loo before entering the pool, i was disgusted and sockened to find there was human feces on the floor around the toilet and not to mention the very potent smell of urine in the toilet facility area. When the issue was brought to the attention of a male member of staff at the front counter i was advised that there was a plummer working there and may have caused the disturbance. There is no reason or excuse for stool to be on the floor. The pool itself was freezing that our stay didnt exceed 30mins. The changing facilities are very dark and also very cold. We as a family wont be returning. We found this facility to be far too cold and dirty. Very disappointing
Fantastic experience: Great venue!!! Love the cafe..
Positive experience: Good place nice facilities.
Fantastic experience: Leisureland for a swim today what can I say.Im a disabled swimmer that uses a snorkle. The staff on the deck of the pool was more than helpful .We're happy to help you get into /out of pool. Not pushing for you to leave .Staff where there when you wanted to get out. Happy to let the disabled showers be used .Had a very quite swim with all the help I got need
Negative experience: The times of closing is inconsistent. You told us the place was closing at 7 despite the website saying 8pm. The next day we arrived at 6 and you told us it was closed. I will not be visiting again!
Fantastic experience: Went there twice for GIAF and I enjoyed both of the times. There is a carpark (small free one, and bigger one that's paid) at the venue, and it's big enough inside to not feel crammed.
Negative experience: I thought this place was a pink salon, why der swimmin
Negative experience: It was me guys I took the pirate slide with me after the recession.
Fantastic experience: Amazing service and all you can needs
Positive experience: Il posto è carino, costa 10 € l’ingresso alla piscina, ma purtroppo nel pomeriggio ci sono decine di bambini rumorosi.
Positive experience: It's nice but nothing special. Can't dive from diving boards
Fantastic experience: Great all rounder to kill a few hours with the children
Positive experience: For the only public pool in Galway, I'm afraid it was a let down. My 18 month old was shivering within minutes of being in the baby pool and my 6 year old wasn't long behind him. Parking for 2 hours was €5 on top of the €26 we paid for a family pass. The changing rooms were cold and not very clean even though it was in the morning. Unfortunately we will probably be back, as where else is there to go...
Negative experience: Have to pay for parking in a public facility! Signs everywhere telling you to validate the ticket and yet they won't do it. Further the baby pool is way too cold for small ones. 16 month old spend 20min and had to come out since his lips were turning blue. Going to even colder changing rooms in a massive draft was no fun either.
Negative experience: Absolutely not satisfying, there's nothing to do in here (nothing a 17 year old is allowed to do). The water isn't deep at all (1,9 m at max). No flipps are allowed and the staff looks always really annoyed. Not even eating is possible. There is also no space to relax and unwind a bit, the only positive thing in the Leisureland swimming park is the sauna which is by the way just too small. What a pity, for 10€ absolutely not recommendable.
Fantastic experience: Kids and wife loved it ❤️
Positive experience: Pool was decent, kids had fun. Changing room dated though. Dark and freezing cold. Opening hours didn’t match online which is difficult to explain to 2 kids excited for morning swim and not eating to be ready for it.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful staff very pleasant place
Negative experience: I found the toddler team not prepared to schedule the age group, today I was in the fourth class with my son and in all the classes I talked to the teachers about his insecurity about going into the water alone, in none of the classes did the teachers try to help him get into the water or talk to him, today he even got into the pool but he didn't have any support and ended up giving up, I believe that in this age group they should have better preparation and a little empathy and attention with the children.
Positive experience: We had a great time here, pool was warm and the slide was great fun
Fantastic experience: Thank you we had a great time. Very helpful staff
Positive experience: Very good swimming place, perfect for young children and older kids.
Fantastic experience: Get pace to go lovely people
Fantastic experience: Свежий воздух это круто окна и двери открыты )
Fantastic experience: Lovely venue
Positive experience: Great facilities
Fantastic experience: Being coming here since I was a child in the early 1990s where I first learnt how to swim along with classmates from the Jes Primary school Galway
Fantastic experience: Great day here
Negative experience: The seating is very uncomfortable and squashed together couldn’t enjoy the show because of it
Positive experience: Hadn't been here for years .Needs some refurbishment !
Negative experience: Rip off car park €10 for a few hours to attend a feis I also had to pay €10 to enter, didn't see a single staff member. Not a place I would go to willingly
Positive experience: Best pools in the Galway, awesome place kids had a great time.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff
Positive experience: A good event location. Not super modern but it serves its purpose.
Fantastic experience: Very nice place and entertaining
Negative experience: I prefer king fisher peter teachers
Positive experience: Was at a swimming gala poorly run.not enough parking. And you have to pay 2.50 euros per hour for parking. Not enough toilets .
Positive experience: Went to see Rob Lamberti here nice venue seating could be a little bit better as the rows were put very close together.
Positive experience: Rock Orchestra was a great night
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and pool
Fantastic experience: The kids had an amazing time
Fantastic experience: Very nice performance hall and swimming pool right on the edge of downtown Galway
Negative experience: Got there, barely any parking, the parking warden was barely doing his job, multiple cars waiting outside the barrier and just taking his time. Got in, loads of Indians blocking the way to go park. The facilities are mediocre at best. Edit: it’s been 24 hours since I left and I now have an ear infection. Just go to the beach.
Fantastic experience: Went to see Daniel O'Donnell show. StFf was very helpful.
Negative experience: Went to Leisureland recently for the first time in years; Pool was filthy, pieces of black dirt floating in the water throughout the pool, especially down near the platform at the deep end. Showers were cold and also dirty. Absolute shame. Far nicer pools available in Galway with clean water and clean changing facilities and hot water.
Fantastic experience: Great facility. The young lad loved the kiddie pool. Friendly staff too
Fantastic experience: Staff are lovely. And 1:1 swim instructors are patient with children it's only way to be. Reception staff very nice and helpful too. Only fault I see with the place and its not the staff fault the heat in seating area is unbearable hot I mean I'm going pass out hot. And then kids say pool is cold so bit strange...
Fantastic experience: Oh wow!!!! What a treat!!!! Whatever you do - or don't do - try not not miss Trad on the Prom. The artists are world acclaimed, and the performances are absolutely incredible.
Fantastic experience: Ideal venue. Great location. Lacking in air con whilst show was on though.
Fantastic experience: Great family facilities
Fantastic experience: Good facilities clean pool
Fantastic experience: Great show and venue. Musicians were amazing - all renown in their own right. Ger Fahey on uilean pipes was so emotionally bueatiful. But range of instruments and singing was wonderful. Chris Kelly and his wife Mairin and her sister Yvonne would have stole the show anywhere in the world. A show really worth seeing. Then to top it all there was a number of champion Irish dancers who tapped the house down. Definitely recommend going to see if on city break to Galway. Afterwards the members met the audience and were so approachable, genuine and just lovely.
Fantastic experience: Great show
Fantastic experience: Trad on the Prom was an incredible show.
Fantastic experience: Had a great night went to see Jimmy Car
Fantastic experience: Great fun place for kids and adults
Fantastic experience: Fabulous dancing and fiddle. The entire night was magical
Positive experience: Loved the show but we were sweating as there was no air. Dress light for inside shows and bring a hand fan.
Negative experience: The staff are lovely and friendly. But the toilets and everything in it needs a good cleaning. Very dirty.smelly .really needs to be addressed in all places where serving public and food. Hopefully this review to promote full cleaning doors sanity bins toilets hand wash.basins needs to be addressed ASAP Long may this facility stay open
Negative experience: This venue is nothing but an oversized school assembly hall. Crap acoustics. Toilet facilities are a joke. If you're going to have up to 1000 punters in the place for a gig, get your act together Leisureland. I see that the complex is under the control of Galway County Council which certainly explains the amateur hour approach to organising things.
Fantastic experience: Cool workers, nice gym, swimming pool clean...
Fantastic experience: Breaking ground boxing event happened there, I love it!
Fantastic experience: I really like it and so does my seven year old son
Positive experience: Good facilities, good venue for events. Needs more car parking facilities.
Fantastic experience: Went to see smokie in concert there, what I saw of this place it was very clean and lots to do.
Positive experience: Lovely venue for swimming for the kiddies while the dad's n mom's sit down to a cuppa and watch
Negative experience: Went to see Frankie Boyle here. Couldn't hear a word with all the noise coming from the foyer. Someone would want to teach the staff how to close a door.
Negative experience: Attended Frankie Boyle 25th Jan 2024. The place was like being outdoors. Constant breeze keeping a full crowd in coats, which really affected the show. Parking attendant out afterwards, which actually slowed down the exit speed from the car park. Never again.
Positive experience: Can get extremely busy but membership prices are fair, the gym has more or less everything you need and the pool and saunas are well upkept
Negative experience: Staff is really good . For the kids no its just a glorified swimming pool. The kids area is cold even the staff said it to me to go to the other pool.they took the kids ship out a good while back with the kids slide in it . Now its just a few fountains. They had a wedding show on in the other part of the building and let them have all the free parking were then another 6 to 8 euro charge for parking around the back. They need to put some money back into the place so run down. Hotel swimming pools instead from now on .
Positive experience: First concert here great venue The Mary wallopers fantastic
Negative experience: I was here for the lankum gig in December and the acoustics were really bad. Genuinely diminishes the experience. They should not be charging as much with a setup like that. The venue owners need to do something drastic or I will not be going to any more gigs there.
Positive experience: Great place for bigger events
Fantastic experience: Amazing experience at gabriel concert friendly staff nice atmosphere will definitely go again
Fantastic experience: Excelent swimming classes for children and excelent staff.
Fantastic experience: Good venue for concert. Went to c Mrs browns boys great crowd well organised enjoy show.
Fantastic experience: Amazing venue; and I've sat several torturous exams in this place with no love lost. My only suggestion would be, to name the auditorium. I know most shows are packed as can be, but a name with a tiny bit more implicit gravitas would be the cherry type topping it deserves.
Negative experience: This is the second week where the beginner swimming class is canceled for “emergency maintenance”. The children only attend their class for 30 minutes and it has been canceled again. How are they supposed to improve their water skills this way? Can't you do maintenance on weekends or at other times, without always harming the same group? Honestly, they should at least be rescheduled on another day at same time.
Fantastic experience: Excellent facilities, friendly and helpful gym staff.
Negative experience: The Hall venue is filthy. Actually disgusting. I don’t think they ever clean it. Apart from getting the poor life guards to walk around moving the dust with a brush. Dirt and dust everywhere. Gross horrible place.
Fantastic experience: Brought my girls to leisureland for the first time. I use to spend my summer holidays up from Cork here. We spent two hours in the pool, and used the slide probably 20 + times. We loved our time there. Will be back soon.
Positive experience: Great concert but very warm in the auditorium
Fantastic experience: Attended Christy Moore. Absolutely amazing performance.
Negative experience: Sauna and steam-room were not working. Toilets stinking really bad. Overall I thought the place looked unkept. The kids and I generally enjoyed it, but it could have been better. The coffee from the coffee shop was 5*****
Positive experience: Still a good place to bring the kids. No more free parking. €2 per hour. Great coffee shop on site.
Positive experience: I enjoyed my swim at leisureland and the staff were very helpful, I also attended a concert and found the toilet facilities inadequate for an audience of 1000 people, disability toilets were fairly open leaving little privacy for a person with disability. The bar was fairly quick but to be served it ran into the second half of the concert. Car parking was ok and entrance to the venue was suitable for abled and disabled. Venue seating for concert was good and safety warnings given.overall a good place.
Fantastic experience: Excellent value, clean changing rooms and helpful staff
Fantastic experience: Nice day out with grandchildren very reasonably priced .needs a bit of t.l.c ceiling tiles need to be replaced and a lick of paint staff were brilliant
Negative experience: Pool is freezing for the last few months, trying to book in to swimming lessons is like trying join a millionaire club with no money,
Fantastic experience: Super day out with the kids. Good size family changing rooms. Kids loved the waterslide. Not to busy. €32 for a family of 5 (2 adultd & 3 kids) Nice little coffee shop. Parking is €2 per hour or €12 for the day.
Fantastic experience: I went to a Trad and Prom show in the evening. It was fantastic and a must see. The concession area was okay.
Negative experience: Always a pleasure to visit leisureland, however not today. Myself and another family together. The family I was with had an 8 month old baby, they were told to take away the yellow float the baby was in, that it wasn't allowed, however I observed 2 other families with babies in the same yellow float. How else can a baby enjoy a day in the pool without this and supervised is beyond me. Then we encountered Lisa the lifeguard, 2 kids with us on the spectrum and she spoke with her arms instead of her voice, very aggressive girl and cheeky too. Otherwise the place is nice, pool is warm and in a nice place beside carnival and the sea.
