Positive experience: It was great while it lasted, but the pool will be closing soon, and unfortunately, clients are not being informed properly. On top of that, they require a three-month notice to cancel, which feels unfair—especially for long-term members. If you’re considering this gym for the pool, I’d recommend saving yourself the hassle. They may say nothing is wrong, but the reality is different. In the end, they’re just trying to push clients into taking other membership deals and signing up for non pool classes instead. Inform the clients accordingly is the least you could do for the amount of money you make from the members.
Fantastic experience: Amazing club, staffs are so friendly
Positive experience: The 3 month cancellation fee is not a good look for the company. Things change, people move location, job etc They have too much of a focus on increasing revenue at the expense of the customer experience. When I joined, what got me to join was one of the staff mentioned they could waive the cancellation period and it’s not strict, so not to worry. (I mentioned at the time I was looking at a few other gyms) but when I mentioned this to the lady upon cancelling, she said she’s surprised someone ever said that. She seemed almost offended even though it technically doesn’t affect her. For the price u pay, I think it should be a better experience. I was there a year and a half, and there was no thank u, or anything. Just made feel bad for mentioning what I was told, and they just took my last payment, held out the card machine and didn’t even look me in the eye when I said thank u, bye. Even though I was respectful and honest. They need to improve their customer service overall and train their staff better.

Negative experience: Black mould all over the ceiling in shower room and bad smell. Rude staff, can not book classes. Sauna always over crowded. Over priced gym for the facilities. Avoid.

Negative experience: Date of visit: 20 July 2025 ,15:30. I went to 1Escape Health Club looking for a day pass to work out. At reception I explained that I was passing through Dublin and that both their website and third-party apps advertise single-day entry. However, the staff member refused to sell me one and offered no clear alternative , while other people (local customers, according to the staff member) walked in without any trouble. Before I to speak with a manager I was told that “only members can use the facilities” They didn’t offer me a membership sign-up or the option to book another day; they simply said no. I felt discriminated against because the treatment I received was different from that given to other customers, and no objective reason was provided. Why this matters: In other countries—Spain, where I live, for example—such behaviour could be considered an exclusionary practice. I suggest that 1Escape review its walk-in policies to avoid decisions that could be perceived as racist or as unequal treatment towards international visitors. A disappointing experience that contrasts with the “premium” reputation they advertise. Until they offer truly accessible day passes for everyone, I would not recommend this gym to travellers.

Negative experience: I’d like to say that the gym is very good, but the cleanliness of the bathroom specifically the shower area is quite poor. The dirt doesn’t appear to be from just one day; there are crusty buildups in the grout and at the base of the walls. A good cleaning with bleach and a mop would easily solve the problem. Other than that, I have no complaints.

Fantastic experience: 1escape Smithfield is undoubtedly one of the top-tier gyms in Dublin. My daily morning visits were always a highlight, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. While it's on the pricier side, the overall experience has consistently been excellent. The swimming pool is definitely my favourite thing there.

Negative experience: I used to be a member of this gym before COVID. Back then, it was always overcrowded, and the machines were in poor condition. Despite that, I was considering rejoining because Dublin has a serious lack of gym options. However, I was shocked to find that the membership now costs €120 per month—absolute madness! On top of that, they require a three-month notice to cancel your membership. Three months? Even my workplace doesn’t require such an unreasonable amount of notice! For a gym membership, this feels absurd. It almost comes across as a scam, preying on the fact that most people can’t predict when they might need to cancel—whether it’s due to moving, a new job, or other life changes. A one-month notice is standard and reasonable, but three months? Ridiculous.

Negative experience: Once a great gym but has gone downhill since covid. There are simply too many members, it is full all the time and the facilities are deteriorating due to a lack of basic maintenance and over use. If you can find space to workout, you most likely won't be able to shower after as there is not enough hot water. Even flushing the toilet is difficult at times. I left when they increased their price to 120 p/m which is simply not worth it, there are quieter gyms with hot water for much cheaper. I gave the three months notice to leave. Unfortunately they decided to continue charging me. I had to block the direct debit. They said this was a billing error and they would refund me. Every week I email and they say there was an error and they'll refund me now. 2 months later and there's still no refund. They even sent me an obviously fake screenshot of the bank transfer that clearly isn't confirmation of payment. I will have to go to my bank now and report fraud. I think this is no longer a reputable business, they're just trying to scam as much money as possible out of people while letting the gym deteriorate. Avoid this place.

Fantastic experience: Amazing gym, it’s such an upgrade from the average Dublin gym. The health club has everything you need in terms of equipment: machines, space for free body training, boxing and cycling dedicated room. The icing on the cake is the swimming pool: long, spacious and clean. Sauna and steam room are available as well. Staff is great: special shoutout to Jessica, she gave me a tour of the gym on my 1st visit and still to this day when she at the reception she calls me by name to say hi(small details makes the difference). Monthly fee is pricy but worth every penny!

Fantastic experience: - Facilities are almost complete but the wet sauna has not been in operations for ages (almost a month to date). - There was a time when the staff would turn off the clothes dryer and hair blower even 10 minutes before closing time (3 September 2024) - this is quite frustrating. - There were a lot of times (or almost everyday as long as that specific staff is on duty) when the staff cleaner gives too much pressure (shouting stressfully) to members to go out 5-10 mins before closing time - consider being more friendly to the members going forward; members should feel comfortable; and do not cause unnecessary panic. - The staff would do the mapping 1 hour before closing time with lights on which cause interruptions to members trying to relax at the sauna area - consider doing the mapping after closing time if possible but hopefully the staff are paid during grace period from closing time for members to closing time for staff (call out to the owner). Update: The steam room was already fixed. Then no more shouting locker room cleaner. So I’m giving 4.5/5 (rounded off to 5). The 0.5 point for improvement can be related to the regular cleaning of the dry sauna as it stinks sometimes. Not sure how frequent should it be cleaned but perhaps weekly could help.

Fantastic experience: The best part of this gym is the staff—they're always happy and welcoming. The atmosphere is great, and the gym is usually not too crowded. It can get a bit busier on Mondays and Tuesdays around 6 PM, so I'd recommend planning your visit outside of those times. The equipment is well-maintained; they repair anything quickly, and I can't even remember the last time I saw something broken. The sauna and swimming pool are excellent, and I've never seen the pool crowded. They offer a lot of classes, though I haven't tried them yet. If you're looking for a nice, quiet environment to work out in, this is the place. No pictures as there are some signs around the gym saying it is not allowed pictures in some areas.

Negative experience: I’ve been a member of this gym for a year, and the variety of equipment here is really impressive, which has been super helpful. However, I had the worst experience tonight during a body test. First of all, no one informed me that I shouldn't exercise before the test. When the trainer found out that I had, she looked very displeased but still proceeded with the test. After the results came out, she asked me, “Did you do any strength training?” I said yes, and she acted shocked and incredulous, telling me, “I’ve NEVER SEEN anyone whose muscle level is BELOW AVERAGE.” So, she didn’t believe I was training and basically implied that I was “ABNORMAL” Well, what if she said the same thing to people who are overweight, like, “I’ve never seen anyone like this, so you must not be doing any cardio, right?” Would she dare? I felt that the trainer was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. If this gym has any mission of “anti-discrimination,” then you should treat everyone equally. I felt discriminated against by her. Did I do anything wrong, or is it just because my muscle level is below average that I deserve her attitude? Am I supposed to be born with lots of muscle around my body? Plus, if you don’t want members to take the test within two hours of eating or after exercising, you should inform them in advance instead of appearing flustered and surprised on the spot. This is not the members’ fault—no one told us anything!

Fantastic experience: The best gym I ever used. It’s not cheap (€120/m standard rate), but I think it’s well worth it. They have a really nice wellness section with 2 saunas and you can attend all the classes. They even have their own app and give rewards to members who train regularly. Recomended!

Negative experience: Well, isn't it just precious how this gym has the audacity to charge a whopping 90 euros for off-peak access and a staggering 120 euros for full access? One would think they'd offer something worthwhile for such exorbitant fees, wouldn't they? But no, what do we get? A sad excuse for equipment, classes where you're expected to bring your own gear, showers that could double as science experiments, and toilets that seem to have a vendetta against cleanliness. And let's not forget the cherry on top: the swim pool and sauna, supposedly places of relaxation, are off-limits during weekdays because of all the racket from classes and blaring music. How thoughtful. But wait, there's more! Trying to cancel your membership? Good luck with that. Instead of the usual one-month notice, they demand you keep shelling out cash for three more months because, you know, they're just so special. Oh, it's no wonder everyone's tripping over themselves to avoid this gem of a gym. Truly, it's a marvel of modern times.

Positive experience: In general, a big gym with lots of facilities, such as a swimming pool and sauna. But, not all machines are working. If you sign up for a class, you should make sure not to be late. Otherwise, they will not let you join. One more start for trainers. They ate great in this gym.

Negative experience: I need to bring this into your attention this morning the gym trainer on the gym floor pointed out to me to wear shoes which i removed while doing Squats. I knew he asked me out of concern as anything can happen in the gym if you not wearing the right gear. And I also knew these basic things having said that I am not new to gym industry and its almost 15 years and growing I am working out in various gyms pan India and Singapore. And I was once Senior personal trainer and senior fitness model in Golds gym , Noida. So I know some basic rules and for the same I was looking at that time to place where i can sit and put on my shoes which unfortunately was near the treadmill, but the trainer shouted on me in such a way that everyone looked at me as if I killed someone or did terribly wrong which I felt very humiliating and I personally feel it was a raciest attack which I wasn’t expecting and he threatening me saying that “I will go down at the reception.” As if I am scared with the management people. Kindly look into this issue and I need to talk regarding this matter to the Gym manager or someone having the authority. There is a way to talk to people. I haven’t done any crime by not wearing shoes, so things can be communicated politely.

Fantastic experience: My boyfriend has had a membership for over 2 years, and I've had mine for almost a year now. Everytime we go to the gym, the reception staffs are kind, and the gym is kept clean both during the week and on the weekends. The trainers provide an abundance of positive energy and motivation. They are all professional and kind! Additionally, the swimming lesson is also fantastic. Thank you to all of the staff for hard work!

Positive experience: Facilities in general are good. There are a wide range of classes but I haven't tried any so can't comment on their quality. The popular classes book out very quickly, so your chance of getting into one can be slim. The gym gets very busy in the evenings. Usually have to wait for equipment. I'm subtracting two stars for two main reasons. First, there are machines on the gym floor that are out of order frequently for days or weeks at a time, often the same machines keep breaking down. If a machine keeps breaking down it obviously needs to be replaced. Second, the showers in the evenings are a nightmare. Some evenings they are just cold, and other evenings the temperature fluctuations are incredibly frustrating. Both of these issues are not acceptable for a gym that charges €120 per month.

Fantastic experience: This is such a nice gym based in the city centre - every time I go to the spa I feel like I’m on holidays. It’s just such a nice place to switch off. The gym is v well equipped and the staff are always on hand to advise. If you need it, they offer check-ins and a free programme - which is great for anyone new to weight lifting. The atmosphere is v welcoming, the staff are all super friendly and the variety of classes that they run are exceptional. I’ve been a member for a number of years and cannot see myself in any other gym.

Fantastic experience: This is well worth the membership price. One of the best gyms I've been a member of in Dublin. Excellent facilities and a wide range of classes (as part of membership) 7 days a week. A fabulous pool and spa area. Better than some hotel spas I've been in. Swimhats must be worn and the area is well monitored by staff. Scrupulously clean and well maintained gym locker room, constantly monitored and cleaned by staff. Good hair dryers (and straighteners) with mirrors and lighting- very comfortable area to change after a workout. Great, friendly, well informed staff.

Negative experience: The only gym in the area, it is expensive (compared with others) for being too crowded most of the time of the day, you will end up queuing often as it is very short in machines (one machine per muscle in general terms - no many options). If you provide feedback at the desk, expect the management to be a bit rough. The machines are broken too often, (once a month I’d estimate) and they take forever to fix them. Right now the leg extension has been broken for over a month and no plan to fix it it seems.

Fantastic experience: In the heart of Smithfield, from the outside looks very small but it's pretty big! 4 floors of gyms, cardio and weight lifting machines, pool, jacuzzi, sauna. Lots of classes for everyone, to attend them you have to book on the app. Staff is quite helpful too. 120 euro a month but it's worth it!

Negative experience: Bad services and people, the staff is really bad. I booked a class and I was there on time and they ignored me saying that I was not there, but I did my check in before class and in the App it is classified as attended. I just wasted my time. We pay a very expensive fee and we received a very awful services. I don't recommend this gym...I was ready in the class at 19:15 and the door was Closed...

Negative experience: Cheats and Liars, when I was joining the 1esc, I asked especially if there is a contract because I was looking to move my place in few months and I was told cancel anytime freedom. I went in today to cancel my subscription today because I moved, receptionist was rude and didn’t even hear the story from my side and said minimum 3 months payments they will take. She didn’t even bother to check my account if any notes were attached to my account. Daylight robbery, I asked if anything can be done. Straight face no and its weird how smiling the receptionist were when I went in the first day. Pathetic place. If you are signing up do not trust these liars and use a, use and throw iban. I trusted these thugs.

Negative experience: Very expensive. weird terms and conditions to leave the club, AVOID IT ! I was very clear at the registration time to the lady that I may not join any further the club because it is very expensive for me. I joined it because it was without €120 (free) for the month of March. The lady asked me to pay € 100 to use the offer. But now Vanjna (staff) is asking me for the three months notice to cancel my debit card details which I never intended. AIB bank charged me €10 for nothing because the club is not cancelling my debit card details. I found it very offensive and forceful. I will never come back although I was planning, in the future, to join the club for the long term but because of the staff behaviour, I will never join again and I will not recommend to anyone.

Positive experience: 1escape Smiths Field is a luxurious health club that offers a premium experience for its members. While it is on the more expensive side, you definitely get what you pay for in terms of amenities, equipment, and atmosphere. One of the things I appreciated most about 1escape Smiths Field was that it was never too crowded, even during off-peak hours. However, it does get quite busy at times, so you may have to wait for equipment or classes during peak hours. As a student who had to take two public transportation to get there, I found it hard to justify the cost and time spent traveling, which affected my ability to fully enjoy the experience. That being said, for anyone who lives nearby and can afford the monthly fee of £90-120, I would highly recommend this health club. It's a posh gym, and for the most part, members take care of themselves, wiping down equipment and returning weights. Of course, there will always be those few who don't care, but that's to be expected in any gym. The environment is clean, and the facilities are top-notch. It's a great place to work out and escape from the stresses of everyday life. Overall, I would give 1escape Smiths Field 4 stars. While it may not have been worth it for me as a student, it's definitely a fantastic option for those who can afford it and live nearby.

Negative experience: I upgraded my Icon membership to have access to 1escape, and the receptionist told me she wouldn’t charge me for the 3 days or so over (I didn’t request this), and my access was granted. Next time I tried to come, my access didn’t work and the receptionist (different) didn’t know why, and let me through. This happened for about 3 sessions, and then another receptionist blocked me and told me that I had to pay 3 outstanding days to have access. I offered. She said I couldn’t by card; let me through. The next time, same thing happened. Couldn’t pay, even though I wanted to. Let me through. This happened continuously to this day since about two years ago? Eventually I stopped bothering with the Smithfield branch and went back to Camden. Now I’m moving city, and I have to pay an extra 2 months and to have given “three months notice”. I understand why gyms do this - to prevent people cancelling in a whim, and promote gym going, but I went to their gyms for 5 years straight, and this particular one didn’t even let me pay them in the first place! The whole upper management and app architecture of the Icon gyms is incompetent, carried by their excellent staff on the ground. Update: 1 month after cancelling my direct debit after informing them I moved out of the country, they took another 99 Euro as a ‘in app purchase??’ Even though the DD was cancelled. Which means they can work outside of the DD agreement. Shady. Update 2: they’re STILL trying to take my money having told them at the start of Feb I’ve moved out of the county. At this point, completely scummy way to treat a mistreated yet loyal customer for 5 years.

Fantastic experience: Gym floor and equipment are excellent. The is a varied and extensive class schedule with easy app for bookings. Pool area very relaxing with sauna and steam room. Comfortable changing areas with plenty of space.

Negative experience: In the last months less and less people are using the towel. And the type of person who goes to gym without a towel will not clean the sweat or stink after him. On my last visit 80% of the people didn't have a towel. I know the towel it's not mandatory but it should be. If you still care about your customers and your business, you could do a survey and ask everybody if towels should be mandatory, let the majority decide...and show the results. Not everybody is wearing swimming caps in the pool. A lot of people come in the pool area, with sweat on them, and do not use the showers before going in the pool or the sauna/steam bath. Imagine when you are going to open the jacuzzi and have five people getting in who didnt use the showers?! I was talking with people in the sauna and steam bath and I'm not the only one saying this. If nothing is going to change, me and my wife we will move to West Wood Clontarf. I left my old place and came here because of the same reasons.

Fantastic experience: Great facilities, love the pool too. And the classes I tried are all amazing! Very good vibes too from the instructors! I've only been training regularly for exactly 3 weeks and I'm starting to notice some results already. This club maybe a bit pricier than others in town but in return you get so much value. There's a huge selection of different classes and if you can't make it one day you can book the same class again next day via app. Still enjoying it after six months. Only thing are the showers, depending on the day, can go from really hot to extremely cold!

Fantastic experience: I got my session from Mac, n he is brilliant. He has so much patience, so calm, explains the exercise so politely n smoothly. I am 37 and never met such a nice trainer in gym. He motivated me to come regularly and i m pumped up. He answered all my queries with lot of patience and is a very nice person. The gym is very big and infrastructure is exceptional read and variety of machines and a very big pool sauna and steam. The gym staff is very friendly and helpful and they are positive vibes in the gym.

Positive experience: Good gym but unfortunately I canceled my membership after the teacher from Bodycombat told me literally to leave the class for being 10 mins late. I’ve been doing body combat for 2 years and it’s not my first class. It’s not about safety, I’ve been doing body combat for more than two years; if you are paying for a personalized service where they actually care about customers this is not the right place. I hope they can train this teacher from the internal team of 1 escape to have a better service and deal with customers who want to enjoy the classes and expect a premium/luxury service as your are paying 120€ monthly. The rest of the staff is friendly and the equipment is okay.
Hi Alba, we are sorry to hear that you cancelled your membership. Unfortunately, if you miss the warm up, even if you are a very experienced Body Combatter, we cannot risk you pulling a muscle. Body Combat is a great class but you do need to warm up properly to avoid injury. Members also find it very distracting to have somebody join in 10 minutes late so we have to also bear that in mind.
