FLYEfit Macken Street: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Perfect gym, many new machines, great staff
Negative experience: You may met with very kind staff here lol. Just only one time i need help to get in , the only response to my thanks is huge face
Negative experience: The place is a joke. Stinks like sewage at all hours, has some sort of gay cruising scene hosted in the changing rooms, unchecked harassment when using equipment, and I've even caught someone trying to undo my padlock on a locker.
Negative experience: This is not my regular gym, but the few times I was in there the heater was too hot. Today was 13° and the heater was on, it feel like an oven.
Negative experience: Every time I go to the bathroom, there's some guy who thinks the gym bathroom is a gay sauna. They stare at you and shower with the door open. Today, there was a guy with a hard-on walking through the locker room. I think it's harassment and abuse by these people. There should be supervision to prevent this behavior.
Negative experience: Security needs to be changed. Just had my stuff stolen from a locked locker. Don’t hate the gym at all the equipment is good and updated now but the security is very lax
Fantastic experience: Amo a academia!
Negative experience: Good
Negative experience: A sweatbox, lacking hygiene and lazy staff. Barely anyone uses towels inside, you can imagine the rest.
Fantastic experience: Everything you’ve looking for, from machines to friendly staff.
Fantastic experience: FLYEfit Macken Street is easily one of the largest and most spacious gyms in Dublin. The size alone sets it apart — there’s room to breathe even during peak hours, which is rare in most gyms around the city. Yes, like all FLYEfit locations, it can get very busy. But if you time your sessions right — early in the morning, around midday, or early evening — it becomes incredibly comfortable to train. And even when it’s busy, the layout and sheer size of the place make it far from overwhelming or crowded. The facilities are top-notch. The bathrooms are spacious and clean, and the equipment is modern and well-maintained. There’s even a protein shake and whey vending machine on site, which is a great touch for post-workout recovery. The trainers are absolutely fantastic — super friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. Their presence really adds to the overall positive atmosphere. Overall, FLYEfit Macken Street is a great mix of space, quality equipment, solid infrastructure, and fair pricing. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a gym that delivers on all fronts.
Fantastic experience: Amazing gym
Positive experience: Good gym, but the music is too loud.
Fantastic experience: Mike is a top man and an absolute gentleman! 5 star gym and 5 star staff!
Negative experience: A gym where you can’t train hypertrophy to failure, Sounds like a joke, but it’s not. The other day I was training with my friend and we were doing a more intense pulley workout, going to failure, and naturally we let the weight down with a bit more force. There was a personal trainer working out next to us and he called us out, asking us to stop the set before failure so we could lower the weight more gently. Is this a gym or a playground?
Fantastic experience: Great Place for a workout with loads of machines and multiple machines for one workout. Avoid the wait. Perfect just all the time except peak hours.
Fantastic experience: Great Place for a workout with loads of machines and multiple machines for one workout. Avoid the wait. Perfect just all the time except peak hours.
Fantastic experience: It has decent spacious for in doing any kind of exercise
Fantastic experience: Best one in the area
Positive experience: Excelente academia, espaço amplo
Positive experience: New equipment since last year. Very nice. Naturally it's busy but still good to use.
Fantastic experience: After the new equipments is safe to say that is one of the best Flyefit in town!
Negative experience: Please fix the heater . Its so cold . Hope no body get sick .
Positive experience: The gym went through a renovation and looks great, but it’s freezing cold. The other day, I had to do my run wearing two pairs of pants and a sweatshirt—what’s going on with that? Fix the heaters, it’s impossible to train in that cold!
Negative experience: Absolutely freezing inside this gym impossible to work out without a hat and a jacket. FIX THE HEATING!!
Positive experience: That Gym is so cold that the dumbells literally froze during a cold snap
Positive experience: The best flyefit gym in my opinion, they need heating in the gym for the winter months though.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely loved Macken Street Gym! It’s true that it was a bit far from where I live, but it was absolutely worth it. The coaches and class instructors are amazing—so friendly and supportive. Thanks to them, I’ve regained my motivation to train, and this gym has made working out an enjoyable part of my routine. Now that I’m going back to Spain, the first thing I’ll do is join a gym, although I know it’ll be hard to find one with such an incredible team as here. Thank you, Macken Street Gym, for everything! It’s been an unforgettable experience
Negative experience: Gym has been renovated quit well.I love it but one thing management should look after is to run the heater in winter season because the ambience is chilling cold inside.
Negative experience: Although it's a really nice gym and with good equipment, the cold in the winter months is almost unbearable
Negative experience: Don't go in Winter. No heating. It's more colder inside than outside.
Negative experience: horrible in the winter. SO, SO COLD!! I was shaking. it’s all open, temperatures are the same as outside. there are no medium weights.. they go up to 6kg and then from 10kg up? Also hard to find the smaller weights that are hidden in the back of the room. They spend quite some time redoing the place and didn’t fix the heating issue, kinda sad because it looks good, but can only be used in the summer (or maybe risk it wearing a hoodie).
Fantastic experience: The new look is amazing and clean with new equipment.
Negative experience: It’s a terrible gym, even if it’s the “cheapest” around. It’s extremely packed, water leakages, dirty and unexplainably cold
Positive experience: Glad to see theyve put in the effort to redo the machines (years overdue) hopefully now they’ll increase their poor opening times ( 7.30 on weekend is ridiculous)
Negative experience: Very uncomfortable gym to train in. Equipment is scattered all over the place. Very little organisation. On top of this, all of the equipment feels like it's falling apart. The mens changing room was a mess. I went 6 pm on a Tuesday so it was very busy which didn't help. As much as I like FLYEfit, I don't recommend this location.
Fantastic experience: Top quality gym with lots of space and options, it should have a higher rating than 4 stars. Only complaint is the weights are disorganised.
Positive experience: Great range of equipment. Changing rooms need an update/ clean
Negative experience: I have been using this gym for the last 2 years since it was not expensive for grand canal. I can safely say for the last 2 years there was no improvement whatsoever in any of the things. There is no air inside, it gets cold in winter and hot in summer. The dumbbells are always ripped, toilets are dirty, machines are not working properly. It’s my time to leave this place.
Fantastic experience: Great equipment, very moist
Negative experience: I've been a member of this gym for two years, and this is by far the worst experience I've had. In winter, it's terribly cold, and the gym has many leaks from the rain (a gym in Dublin that isn't well-prepared for rain, yes, incredible). But the worst part is that the staff doesn't even bother to move the machines so they don't get wet or the sofas in the changing rooms. The machines are super old, and when they break, it takes many months to get them fixed. Issues like leaks and cold persist for years without any solutions. Yet, every year, they make sure to raise the price, but the quality of the gym only gets worse. One of the worst gyms I've ever been to in my life.
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym, great classes and lovely people
Negative experience: Many Broken/not working properly machines. Seems like abandoned gym
Fantastic experience: Nice gym
Fantastic experience: Being big is very advantageous for me because I don't have to wait in long lines. But the machines are very old and many of them are faulty. I hope all the machines will be renewed as soon as possible.
Positive experience: very cold gym, great equipment, but should have a heating center
Fantastic experience: A wonderful place to workout! Ample amount of space, name it and you have everything you need to be fit
Negative experience: There used to be a personal trainer/staff member called Sam Bruton. Tall guy with very disgusting eyes walking around thinking he's God and harassing the members. Hasn't seen him for a while though but this 1-star review is dedicated to him. Go to hell Sam!
Negative experience: First time here and already regreting. The worst flyefit I've been so far. A lot of broken equipment, the changing room is a mess, dirt everywhere.
Positive experience: A lot of space, not crazy crowded in the afternoon/evening. It could be a lot cleaner though, with spider webs everywhere hanging from the ceiling and not very clean bathrooms.
Positive experience: gym space and has lots of equipment, clean and organized bathrooms, equipment is always repaired on short notice.
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Has every type of equipment you need. I recommend going between 1-3pm. I was there for about 5 hours and that's when I noticed the crowd dwindle down a little bit. I love that they have day passes and a huge discount if you do 3 days. Highly recommend. It's also walking distance to temple bar as well as many restaurants.
Positive experience: Good gym but always pretty busy. The bikes all need a bit of a service and are in average condition but largely the gym has all you need, getting a bit expensive though with three price increases in about a year.
Negative experience: I’ve been a regular at Flyfit Macken Street, but the experience has taken a sharp decline recently. The gym has turned into more of a social hangout than a proper fitness center. The personal trainers, who are supposed to ensure safety and assist members, spend most of their time in groups chatting with students instead of doing their jobs. Last weekend, during the afternoon, the situation was unbearable. A blonde girl was laughing so loudly it felt like she was shouting — even with headphones on, her voice was impossible to ignore. This behavior seemed to be encouraged by one of the trainers who was engaging with her instead of focusing on his responsibilities. It’s clear that there’s a lack of professionalism and respect for other members’ space. The atmosphere feels chaotic, and it’s becoming harder to enjoy my workouts. I’m seriously considering switching gyms if things don’t improve. If you’re looking for a gym with a focused and professional environment, I’d recommend looking elsewhere for now.
Fantastic experience: This is an absolutely wonderful (and large) gym with a huge selection of machines, free-weights, squat racks, cardio machines as well as a turf CrossFit area. My favorite aspect is the classes (free with membership). I have been able to do some excellent strength and cardio based classes with Amy and Fernando. They are both positive, motivating and incredibly welcoming to all attendees. Highly recommended!
Positive experience: It's ok only problem it's the toilet staff. Really they need check the bad smaller, paper toilet , etc.
Fantastic experience: I love the equipment in this gym! Some have told me it gets mad busy after work and you have to queue for machines but I always go late or at the weekend so that doesn't matter much to me. Other points to consider are that the skylights look really grimy and would let in a lot more light in if they were professionally cleaned, but that's the only real con for me. The gym floor is clean and full of well maintained equipment, so that's all I really care about!
Fantastic experience: Great gym, good variety of machines. Large space, most people are going to actually work out so it is very pleasant
Negative experience: please, turn on AC. ive been this close from passing out here these days because it feels like there's no air most of the time. (not to mention that they'd have that turned on during winter but not now when it's actually warm. make it make sense.)
Positive experience: [EDIT] They still haven’t properly cleaned the men’s changing room, The mould is so bad that bags left in lockers started growing mould because the lockers never get cleaned out, look at the video below (hiding the locker number so they don’t just clean that single one) Place is either too cold or too warm, smells like a sewer constantly, the ceiling in the men’s changing room looks like dirty cotton with the amount of mould growing on it and the urinal mats haven’t been changed in ages, to the point where they’ve gotten mouldy (never even knew they could ever go mouldy) and they also reek. gym is pretty big and peak times aren’t that bad. waiting for benches and machines doesn’t really happen often.
Positive experience: Great to do workout here they have almost all the variety of equipments to choose from.Very spacious as well
Positive experience: Astro ground area could be newer and softer. comparing to CHQ. Like the locker room never bumping heads.
Positive experience: Always 30 unused cardio machines and zero available squat racks… so your typical gym basically, plus extra bad smelling locker room and no dumbbell rack labels so that’s an absolute mess too
Positive experience: Probably the better of the flyefits...but it really feels like these gyms are spiralling out of control lately. Machines are always broken or very worn down. They are also dangerously close to each other. These issues become so much more problematic given how busy these gyms can get. It really is hit or miss if you can workout as intended. The other day I even had to queue for 15 minutes for a locker. It does feel like flyefit buries it's head in the sand around these problems, but I'm not sure how much longer they can realistically keep going like this.
Positive experience: Good, clean gym. Been going almost every evening...crowded af, so you know it's a popular gym. ♀️♂️
Negative experience: Arguably the worst gym in Dublin (or even Ireland). Don’t mistake the 8 year old cobwebs for the existence of Spider-Man inside. They WILL NOT turn on the heating, no matter what. No place to even warm up after 5 PM. Not so bad staff. Low price. Lower quality. Great place for mental training since you fear heavy machines might malfunction while you’re working out on them because they’re super worn out and out dated. Atleast 15 years old.
Fantastic experience: Lots of space to train , one of the better flyefits
Positive experience: Positives: Much bigger, spacious and more cardio and weight machines, not to mention much larger changing rooms and shower facilities than the nearby CHQ. Negatives: a lot of the equipment is old, in disrepair and/or outdated. Throughout the entire winter the gym has been freezing, making it difficult to enjoy your workout.
Negative experience: Really poor gym.. the size is big, but full of really old equipment, not organized by any sense. And absolutely crowded. Do not recommend.
Negative experience: The worst gym I've ever came across in the entire world. (This includes places like Mexico and Asia...) The machines are falling apart. The temperature is freezing which is dangerous for your muscles. The getting-in process is a catastrophic... I rather pay more for a better quality service than coping with the stress at Flye Fit.
Negative experience: Location and staff are the saving graces for Macken Street. Crumlin gym is brighter, warmer, cleaner, kit and equipment is in great condition - yes obviously because its newer. But there is no excuse for Flyefit owners not to invest in the Macken Street gym building and new equipment to bring it up to par with their other branches ... it is unfair on the loyal and dedicated local gym members to endure such a poor standard facility
Positive experience: Machines, layout, and équipement is awesome and as expected from a warehouse gym. 3 stars because we were exercising in gloves and puffer jackets since the place isn’t heated much
Negative experience: Loved the gym but why don’t you turn on the heat? Its too cold to workout inside, almost as cold as it is outside. Please turn it on!!
Positive experience: Decent gym however it is freezing inside and very difficult to workout.
Negative experience: No heating , today 08.12.2022 I’m the evening . Outside is 0 and inside is the same only difference is no wind inside . This gym shouldn’t be allow to be open in this conditions .
Positive experience: Decent equipment. Good boxing bags. Cleanliness is poor ( but to be fair it's hard to gym a gym tidy with so many people in every day) . Bathroom and showers aren't very clean. Toilets and showers appear to be not working at least 1 day a week ive been there. Also a weird sewage smell.. It is what it is, a cheap gym but good for training in the locality.
Negative experience: Quite poor even for a Flyefit. Both urinals were leaking and stank. None of the ten or so crosstrainers had power. Staff were completely missing when I had a question about one of the machines. Not one aerobic step. The CHQ is far better and will be staying there in future.
Positive experience: The showers have good temperature water and the drains have been unclogged. The changing rooms had heating but outside in the gym floor was absolutely freezing. Very big gym with lots of equipment. Very difficult to know where the classes take place a not a member of staff in sight. The roof feels like it will crumble at any point and the dustiest fans in existence along with it. There are much nicer flyefits I must say this one needs a revamp. The Muay thai instructor is absolutely fantastic and I'll come back for him.
Negative experience: The place has gone downhill. I’m a member for the last 10 years. 1. Machines are dirty with a thick layer of grease and dirt. The dirt is covering the plates too. 2. Some treadmills are out of order. 3. Extremely busy and long waiting times for machines. 4. No longer a 24 hour gym which is pretty disappointing. 5. Plenty of water leaks all over the gym floor. 6. Card access almost always fails and requires assistance to get in… wasting time waiting for staff to open the gate and give you access. The staff are friendly though. Please bring back the 24 hour opening hours.
Negative experience: Edit: revising to 2*. Heaters on when it is sunny and no ventilation. No towels encouraged enforced. What you have is a sweaty gym woth zero hygiene. PLEASE TAKE THIS ON BOARD. Turn the heaters off in the summer, build in some windows, keep door open. Pretty good gym. Very busy at 7.30am-8.30am, people rarely wipe down machines which is frustrating, very few bring a towel - advising on better gym etiquette would be great. Water fountains are slower than a legless turtle, showers / changing rooms are very stuffy. Cable machines are hard to get on, but lots of pull up bars / squat racks / benches. Lots of leg work out machines, big empty area for core etc.
Negative experience: Closing times are ridiculously early after covid. Prior to covid it was a 24 hour gym
Positive experience: Very good the gym but should be open at least until midnight
Negative experience: This branch looks very much like warehouse, but there are plenty of machines. The bathrooms and lockers are modern. I've been going for two months and the showers have been out of order twice. Today there were buckets all over the floor because it had rained today. Not the best gym experience. UPDATE: This may actually be the worst branch of FlyeFit available. Last week, temperatures on the gym floor were essentially the same as the outside temp. I didn't sweat a drop through my workout and I everyone's breath was visible. Today it's a warmer day, so of course there was no hot water in the showers. I know this is a basic gym membership, but it's really a disgrace.
Positive experience: Great gym and have been going since it opened. Loads of equipment which is upgraded frequently. Deducted a star as the change from 24 hours to open/close times has made it more difficult to go and made it busier.
Fantastic experience: In my opinion the best gym in the area if you like bodybuilding. They have all the machinery needed, including all cardio options as well. Super spacious. Extra friendly staff that helps you with all you need. Girls bathroom hyper clean. It's not a fancy gym. It's the gym you go to build a physique, not take selfies. And in my opinion, that's 5 stars.
Fantastic experience: Same old, dirty gym. Just how I like it.
Negative experience: It’s been more than 4 years going to Flyefit. I’m giving 2 stars to Macken St location because : 1) is filthy like a public toilet and this includes the machines, the dumbbells, the floor, the showers. 2) very poor maintenance in general, some machines takes weeks to get fixed. Reported several times to get the soap refilled even during the pandemic. Some times took days what should be reviewed on daily basis. And I can ensure most of the people doesn’t even use the soap, so is not empty for the constant use of the users 3) given where is located I’d expect better quality in general. I know is the cheapest gym in town, but this location is beyond cheap. If you are choosing flyefit make sure to only go to the newest locations or you’ll feel like working out in the dirt
Negative experience: Forgot my card one morning and wouldn’t allow me access even though I’ve been a member since 2015
Positive experience: Good neighourhood gym. Good facilities spacious and clean.
Fantastic experience: All machines and weights for anything you wanna do. Cardio, weightlifting, crossfit, dumbbells, cycling....Nice and quite atmosphere.
Negative experience: Cleanliness is non existent, dumbbells stacked however you please, basically a treasure hunt to find the weights you're looking for. Equipment, for the most part, is due for an overhaul.
Positive experience: They put new machines in which are great, however it's too dark inside, especially in front of the dumbell rack, you can barely see the numbers on the dumbells that's how dark it is.
Negative experience: I've been a member for over 7 years, The good: The equipment is built great, There are a lot of weight plates, Nice Astro Area , Good supply of foam rollers, med balls, boxes, The lockers work great, It's clean, the staff have always been great to me, The Bad, At peak times it's unusable, too crowded, There can be classes in the astro area that can limit your workout, There is no padding on the safety squat bar and it destroys your shoulders. (they are VERY slow to replace stuff like this, It's been 3 years and no padding on it!!!) Also please get people to stop working out in the sled lanes unless they are sledding or doing farmers walks. Sometimes people sit in the way. AND BY FAR THE WORST THING IS THE 7:30PM CLOSING TIME ON WEEKENDS AND BANK HOLIDAYS!!! That's the ONLY reason I am giving it 1 star. It's the most irritating thing in the world. It means at 6:30pm the gym is crammed with everyone trying to workout before closing. And you get shouted at from 7:10pm onwards !! I counted about 30+ people in the gym today at 7:00pm. That means if you want a good workout at the weekend you need to go at 5PM!!! SOME OF US HAVE LIVES . IT MEANS IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMITMENTS ON THE WEEKEND OR BANK HOLIDAY YOU WILL HAVE A TERRIBLE RUSHED WORKOUT :( PLEASE , I BEG YOU OPEN THE GYM UNTILL 9PM ON WEEKENDS . I WILL PAY MORE MEMBERSHIP . PLEASE!!!
Positive experience: Good commercial gym.
Fantastic experience: This Gym is amazing, I highly recommend it in every way!
Fantastic experience: Great gym. Very sound staff
Fantastic experience: Great gym everything u need on one floor brilliant
Positive experience: Great equipment, staff are amazing, but it's a bit cold. So you need to get working quickly
Positive experience: Bit crowded in the evening. Also now it used to close at 10 PM which means not 24/7 like it was previously even post covid. So that there is little bit disappointment with management.
