Mespil Swimming Pool: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Amazing swimming lessons from Jenny - she is the best Besides that, nice and quiet pool with a good sauna.
Negative experience: The dirtiest pool I ever experienced
Positive experience: Nice and clean pool, not too busy. The only negative is the washroom shower temperature being too hot.
Positive experience: Lovely and quiet, nice, friendly staff. Showers are open to changing room so don’t bother using and wait till I get home.
Fantastic experience: The staff here are so friendly and professional. the lessons for kids are excellent!
Positive experience: The staff is friendly but the pool itself is not the best. Decent place to go for a swim.
Fantastic experience: Nice size swimming pool and lovely staff, very clean. Highly recommend Jenny for lessons, she is very professional and always very welcoming.
Fantastic experience: Great pool, great lessons
Negative experience: Not the best
Fantastic experience: Loved the privacy swim and sauna. Can't wait to go again.
Negative experience: Way overpriced. Really bad shower place.
Fantastic experience: Mespil is great, you will most certainly get a good swim here. All the staff are lovely, their instructors are amazing, ask for Jenny for lessons, she has the patience of a saint, wonderful swim instructor. The pool is a good size, has everything you need including a sauna for some down time after your swim. Considering what businesses have been through this past year, places like Mespil need more suppprt and appreciation than ever. Both pay as you go and membership options very reasonably priced. Mespil is very well organized, has a very relaxed atmosphere, always an enjoyable place to be.
Negative experience: Pool & Sauna is okay but showers are pretty bad. They also only allow 10 minutes after your session ends to clean up and leave, which basically leaves no time to have an actual shower. To top all of this off, it's 8 euro for a walk in, way over priced.
Fantastic experience: Kids swimming lessons are great here
Fantastic experience: Nice and quiet ,lots of room, friendly professional staff
Fantastic experience: Phenomenal.
Fantastic experience: Good and warm swimming pool, good changing room/showers
Fantastic experience: Great 20m pool for training!
Fantastic experience: I'm a long standing member of the pool and I would like to praise the great staff that works in it: Derek, Jenny, Liz, Mary and Adam, always helpful and encouraging.
Negative experience: overpriced (needs membership and then you still have to pay per entry!?), steaming hot water in the pool itself (waiting for an accident to happen, can't do any serious swimming when you cant breathe!), super busy at any time...
Hi Szymon,
You can use the pool to include use of sauna and steam room on a drop in basis for a charge of €7.50. There is no need for membership. It is an option but is not compulsory. The opening hours are the same for members and non members alike. If you arrive at the time of opening you can stay until closing time which will give you a minimum of two hours to use our facilities. I think most people would agree that this is very good value.
Regarding the temperature of the water, it is slightly above the temperature of most public pools. This is necessary as we do a huge amount of baby/toddler swimming as well as school swimming for young children. Despite the extra cost in heating charges we feel this is worth it so that the children can learn to swim in a warm relaxed atmosphere. If children are shivering and cold it is unlikely they will enjoy their lesson and learning to swim becomes a chore. I completely understand that you may prefer a cooler temperature particularly if you are doing several lengths. However most people are not competitive swimmers and enjoy the extra warmth.
You mentioned that you were having trouble with your breathing. This is very common among our pupils and we do excellent lessons both group and private to help people with stroke work and proper breathing technique. Our courses can be booked online.
Regards,
Mary
Positive experience: I learned swimming here and I go to practice every week. I love this place and the people managing it are very kind and supportive. I highly recommend this place.
Negative experience: My worst experience ever in a swimming pool/gym. I paid for two months of lessons but I was pushed to leave after the 1st month without a refund. They let people use the changing room for just 15 minutes, after that they lock the door of the pool. All of that, because they don't want to pay a receptionist for the time between lessons. Firstly, this is not SAFE. Secondly, as a normal person might understand, a girl with very long hair can't take a shower and dry her hair in 15 minutes. Normally staff tries to find a solution or at least is polite. But when I tried to make my point with the staff and tried not to be thrown out from the locker room, I've received just RUDENESS, open HOSTILITY and sarcasm. Staff stressed me out, making me lose PATIENCE and MONEY. Sincerely, I don't know how they can run a business in this way. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Hi Michela.
I am disappointed that despite our best efforts to find a solution for you that you chose not to return to the second half of the swimming course. I would however encourage you to continue with lessons even though it may not be at our pool. You did particularly well and even got promotion into a higher group after just a few weeks in the beginners class. Well done! I wish you well on your swimming journey. Mary
Negative experience: Worst staff ever. Change job.
Fantastic experience: Very chilled and never too busy
Positive experience: Great little place near town for a swim. Not the biggest pool(20m), but gets the job done
Fantastic experience: Fantastic pool, beautiful staff, very clean.Always a pleasure to come back.
Negative experience: DON T GO! Dirty pool, changing room, toilet dirty, water warm and sometime green, I went twice, 2 days afters my second class I caught the cold sore. It took me 3 weeks to recover and 300e doctor and medicine. i will advice you to take more information cold sore can be spread in the swimming pool.... And anyway it doesn’t change the fact that the pool, the 2 times i have been was dirty and the manager was swimming instead of cleaning the pool...
Hi Esther,
I’m sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy your time at Mespil Swimming Pool.
I would like to reassure you that the cold sore virus can only be spread between people by direct physical contact and is impossible to catch in a swimming pool. Furthermore, our pool water is chlorinated and tested regularly each day making it a very safe environment to swim in.
It is true that the pool is kept warm, this is to accommodate our many baby and toddler swim classes. I understand that some people prefer colder pools.
Mespil Pool hires professional cleaners to ensure that the pool area and changing rooms are kept in good condition. I apologise if they weren’t up to our usual high standard when you visited.
If you have any further concerns I would be happy to talk to you in person. My number is 0868567603.
Mary, Manager Mespil Swimming Pool
Positive experience: Pool and changing area is small but clean.friendly staff.bit of parking but near luas.
Positive experience: Quiet, cheap and friendly pool. Very warm and generous sized swim lanes in the AM. €5 swim before work. Could do with a lick of paint in the changing rooms and some proper functional lockers
Fantastic experience: Membership leisure centre
Positive experience: Great location. Swimming lessons for children are very convenient. The teacher is nice, showers are clean, it is not too crowded and price is cheaper than others in the area. You can also have a picnic or just chill out on the grass in front of the building after your swim. I am only removing one star because the facilities could benefit from some refreshing. Happy to recommend.
Fantastic experience: Great spot for a lunch time swim... used to always be quiet but is getting busier now
Fantastic experience: Good location. Swimming classes available for children or adults. Open late in the evening. Is not a luxury swimming pool but everything works.
J'y retournerai.
Negative experience: Water is cold in the shower
Fantastic experience: I love this place reminds me of home
Positive experience: weird opening hours, hosts baby swimming classes
Fantastic experience: Lovely small clean pool with sauna and steam room, helpful receptionist,
Positive experience: Great location, average pool and facilities.
Fantastic experience: Great pool
Fantastic experience: Nice place
Fantastic experience: Nice small pool, warm at the weekend for the kids and not to busy
Positive experience: Small and functional. Very good classes offered. Nice place
Positive experience: This is a great place if you want to experience travelling in space and time back to the Soviet Union of 1980s. The main differences are that this one is not free and the changing room is smaller than what you would expect to see in USSR.
Positive experience: Lane is short, sauna is good and it seems empty enough in the morning
Positive experience: Nice small swimming pool but the changing rooms could be more spacious and the showers could be improved
Fantastic experience: Great place for a quiet swim
Positive experience: A bit old but very warm. Good for baby swim class.
Positive experience: Nice little swimming pool close to city centre
Positive experience: A basic pool. Nothing fancy but does exactly what it's supposed to do.
Positive experience: Clean and with friendly staff but so warm. There's a sauna and steam room in the corners but you really don't need them! The pool is 20m long about 2.5m deep at one end and 1.3 at the other. Usually its divided into 3 generous lanes
Positive experience: It's like a swimming pool in eastern Europe but it's clean and has lovely staff. Sauna and steam room also. On the expensive side unfortunately.
Fantastic experience: Love the Kiddy classes. Such a good start to get babies water ready
Negative experience: I don't recommend this pool. The receptionist who is also a life-guard is very rude, and the water is strongly chlorinated.
Fantastic experience: Great community pool. 20m, quiet and with sauna and steam room.
Positive experience: Small, clean with Family run feel to it. Great for kids (on weekend) as water, changing rooms and showers are warm. Friendly staff.
Positive experience: Clean 4 x 20 meters pool with steam and sauna rooms.
