Positive experience: I’ve been using this facility for several years as a gym goer and also a parent. There are many positive things about this facility. The gym is well-layed out and the etiquette is generally enforced and followed by which is great. The staff turnover seems to be relatively high but most of the gym staff I’ve interacted with have been enthusiastic and helpful over the years. Particularly chatting to older patrons and those who attend what I believe are the targeted older age group classes in the HSE zone speak very positively of the staff. Reception quality can vary but again, with a very high staff turnover this is expected but my experiences have ranged from informative and friendly to confusing and unfriendly. Some consistency in what the timetable for the pool is would be great as I have often received conflicting information. When the new booking rule came in for members, reception has been very obliging in booking me in as I was unaware of the rule. The pool is honestly rather confusing. The lessons have been high quality and my children have loved the teachers and the lessons and have progressed fairly quickly and developed their confidence. I would feel a bit more comfortable if the supervision was consistent, as often times there is 1 lifeguard supervising both the smaller back pool and the other pools used in lessons, meaning that I feel as if I have to watch my child quite closely from the stands. The pool staff have been pretty obliging albeit the turnover again, means that some staff seem to be unsure of the rules and pool timetables. Some of the staff have been there for a quite a while and are very obliging and informative and will correct younger/newer staff. My main gripe with this facility is the booking system and the timetable is completely mind boggling. Whilst the booking in system somewhat makes sense for safety, it isn’t enforced in any other leisure facility (talbot, clayton, maradyke, etc) so for the extra hassle it causes for customers doesn’t really make sense and is honestly frustrating. As a parent I don’t know when my kids are going to decide they want to go swimming on a whim and this system makes it incredibly difficult. There are frequently clubs on in the 25 metre pool and the app does not mention these clubs nearly 50% of the time, which is frustrating when you are trying to hit PBs or have a specific training plan for a 25 metre pool. The bookings overall need to be way more cohesive and there needs to be far more consistency and transparency for customers on the app. The cleanliness is extremely varying and the sauna has a strange smell a lot of the time and could really do with a refurb, and some enforcement on what conversations are allowed. My wife does not go to the sauna but I feel as if she did she might be made uncomfortable with some of the sensitive and at times offensive topics brought up in the sauna. Overall the facility has great potential, but there needs to be more consistency with bookings, cleanliness and I feel as if many of these problems can be caused by low staff retention and constant cycling of new employees which need to be retrained. The booking system needs a complete overhaul with the booking in and the app needs to be consistent and up to date- it’s a customer issue but I have also witnessed many of the pool and reception staff being confronted aggressively over booking confusion. My kids do love the lessons though so a massive thanks to reception and all the teachers for the great work they do !

Negative experience: I visited this swimming pool today with my children and it was an absolutely disgusting experience. I spent a fair amount of time at the swimming pools across Europe and this one is by far the worst. The level of cleanliness was shocking. Floors around the pools area were covered with dirt, hair, used plasters and debris, and it looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned for days (at least). The water in the 18-metre pool was cloudy(!), and the glass panels separating the pools were covered with old, dried stains. The changing rooms were unusable — in most of them there were clothes and bags left behind, making it impossible to get changed. Overall, the conditions were far below basic hygiene standards. This was my first and last visit. Extremely disappointing experience at LeisureWorld Bishopstown.

Negative experience: hi. come here with my kids after school pay as you go. i’m scred to take my eyes off them, only one person in yellow watching three different pools. this is definiitely not good or safe never see anyone come to help. lives are at risk here

Negative experience: The gym used to be good. It had gone downhill so much. The price increased and the equipment lessened. They removed the monkey bar which was so useful for pull ups and swinging.. They used to have skipping rope and gone for while. They then bought some skipping rope but in kid's sizes .

Positive experience: A welcoming leisure facility where everyone belongs. David and Jane deliver outstanding aqua aerobics. Rebecca and Katie’s superb coaching at Revelate and in other fitness classes energises, challenges, burns and for sure tones. Ageless Movement program is based on soothing motions with enduring strength. Traffic can be tricky, parking a challenge, and the pools do get packed on weekends; despite these drawbacks, the quality and variety of classes make this a recommended fitness centre.

Fantastic experience: Excellent leisure center with great swimming pools, modern gym facilities, and plenty of classes for all ages. The staff are friendly and professional, and the place is always clean and well maintained. A perfect spot for fitness, relaxation, and family activities.

Negative experience: Went out Saturday morning and all I can say it was like a cattle mart all crammed into the small pool it was so over crowded ..sauna was packed not hot at all , steam room broke it was a disaster had to leave early after paying 20 euros

Negative experience: For us, a very deceiving experience. We were told at the counter that the steam room, altough off service would be back in service in the coming moments. When we arrived in the changing rooms, 3 out of 5 family cubicles where occupied by the stuff of people who did not use the lockers. We then were rejected from the main pool to a secondary, smaller and overcrowded pool, with only 1 swimming lane for up to 6 swimmers, the rest being used as a playground.. the sauna was overcrowded, the steam room never opened. When we came back to change again, the family cubicles where still in the same state and we even had to clean ours... thanks god we were only passing by. But won't come again.

Positive experience: Love the pool. Nice location.The gym’s capacity needs to grow and better maintenance. Would recommend for first timers around MTU.

Negative experience: I've been paying for this gym for over two years. I've tried to go many times, but I haven't been able to go more than two or three times a month because they have the air conditioning so high that I end up very sick. I kept going because they have a pool and I liked going to the pool and the sauna, but the truth is, I need a gym to be able to work out, and unfortunately, this gym, with its excessively cold air conditioning, isn't healthy. I end up with toothaches and neuralgia from the cold. And it's not the first gym I've been to, but it is the coldest I've ever been to. I mentioned this to the staff yesterday, and it's not the first time it's happened to me because it never changes, and I don't think they care. So, unfortunately, I've canceled my membership and will have to find another gym.

Fantastic experience: I had the most amazing interaction with Katie, gym supervisor. It's incredibly encouraging to be coached by, and speak with someone who knows and is so passionate about their job. I have a new found sense of confidence confidence.

Positive experience: The staff can't do enough for you. Very obliging and friendly. Same result in the coffee shop.

Fantastic experience: I have been using this gym for a while and and I am very pleased. The dumbells and equipment are of very good quality and staff members are very understanding.

Negative experience: I lost count of how many times I went for lane swim only for the lanes to be reduced to one to accommodate some club or whatever. Was joined a good few years but didn't renew this year. Really gone down hill

Negative experience: Machines constantly broken, repairs can take weeks. Was 3 cable machines now only 2, feel like there were more benches a year ago before they changed layout. I have been there a few years now and my experience has only got worse, there has been no improvement to anything in the general gym area. Staff are sound tho

Fantastic experience: I have to write a review on the swimming lesson instructors, they really are fantastic. My daughter absolutely loves swimming here - her confidence has grown immensely and the lessons are so reasonable as well. We love it. Management are also so nice to deal with as I haven’t always been the easiest customer. Really appreciate it!!

Negative experience: I've been to better equipped gyms in third world countries. Honestly, worst gym I've ever been too. Avoid

Fantastic experience: Very handy pay as you go. The gym is great and spacious. However the pool gets very busy in the evenings. And the mix of cholerine chemicals can burn the eyes off of you sometimes. Cork needs alot more swimming pools to cope with the number of people. Great sauna too!

Negative experience: If you are looking for a good pool, you are in the wrong place. The management is very disorganized, not clear as most of the time the Main pool is closed for private groups and you need to swim in the small pool with only one line and many people there. This makes me very frustrated as I pay to use the pool but I am treated as I am no one, as my money is less important than the private groups. The sauna is ok, maybe the best thing in the facility, but don't expect too much. I didn't use the gym and the outside pitch, so don't take my review/feedback for this. I recently went to another similar facility, I must say that Leisure Word needs a lot of improvements.

Negative experience: Been here about 20+ times in last year with my now 6 year old son.Never a problem until today.16 euro upfront for us to use the pool for an hour,no issue with that.It would seem realistic a 6 year old would likely use the learner pool.There was a play scheme group in it,so he was allowed in,I was not as pool at capacity.No problem with that.I only got to enter the learner pool with my son for 30 mins of the hour I paid for.Suggested I use the adult pool.Not possible,you can't leave a 6 year old child unattended.Nothing but a limp apology,not even a suggestion of a partial refund for a service I paid for in full.Only told about the pool being booked after I was charged upfront and told I could not use it.Fairly poor service all round.Even if I was told come back at another time,would be no problem.

Fantastic experience: A big shout out to the wonderful Phoebe who has been so good to help my 6 year old who is nervous and lacking confidence in swimming lessons. She went above and beyond to try and help build his confidence back up slowly. Also to Connor who is such a fantastic swim teacher, so patient and kind.

Negative experience: Should be a price only for the gym and another for the pool. The gym is not vey equipped, missing many machines to do a proper workout and most of them are deteriorated

Positive experience: Many positives, clean well maintained except However. The steam room does no run hot much of the time. Endless pithy excuses delivered since forever about the lack of steam. Pool and Gym are good.

Negative experience: Terrible service. I tried to call on Friday because I knew that today would be bank holidays - no answers, I sent an email to ask if it's working today - no answer, I checked Google maps if there is some changes in the working hours no changes like normal Monday. I said ok so it will be open the gym, I woke up at 6 o'clock in my bank holiday and when I arrived there the barrier was down and nothing working...Update your website and start answer the phone and the emails this is not serious you increased your prices but the service terrible....

Negative experience: Good facilities, however Manager is very rude and unaccomodating. Not allowed to enter at 5pm when they are open until 5:45. Will not be renewing my membership for sure

Positive experience: Water is too cold for babies. Baby pool was cooler than adult swim area. Not too clean in the showers either. Good pool otherwise, I swam there all the time while pregnant.

Negative experience: Ciaràn and David are very good helping me and others in the Functional zone gym. They deserve a praise for the jobs they do. Walking down the small hill on the way I was wondering if you could put up a railing on the footpath on the right because when I walk on the flat part that's when I need something to hold onto while walking. The Cafeteria has lovely hot chocolate and coffees.

Negative experience: Rude and racist staff at the counter. The gym and pool facilities are excellent. Helping staff in gym and pool area are really good but every time I went to the counter I had a terrible experience.

Fantastic experience: I use both the swimming pool and functional zone. This a special and dedicated gym for people with neuro-muscular diseases and others for rehabilitation. The staff is wonderful and helpful there. Congratulations to the personal trainers: Ciaran, Patrick and David. Please REWARD them as they are just AMAZING.

Fantastic experience: The team in bishopstown leisure world are just amazing. Our son is autistic and the team there all look out for him and really take care of him. We go 2 or 3 times a week and without their help it would not be possible. Thanks to everyone there

Negative experience: Download app to book any session is all the reply I get just to book a simple swimming session. There is minimum human interaction .All interaction is directed to a app.

Positive experience: Decent gym and pool, nice staff. steamroom is very weak unless you pour water into the steam vent, maybe it should be hotter by default to avoid people doing this themselves every 5 minutes. The open hours of the gym are kind of poor for a membership that costs that much. But other than that I do like training here

Positive experience: update, the gym is now open on sundays, 9am – 5.45pm decent gym, most of the equipment is of good quality and in good condition. the barbells need to be replaced as of 15/2/22. staff are nice and theres plenty of parking...the biggest downside is that the gym closes at 9pm and the pool/steam room and sauna close at 8pm, 5pm on saturday and aren't open at all on a sunday....as of the 5th of june the gym is now open on sundays and bank holidays

Positive experience: Frankly, the water is too hot to swim comfortably. Why the water's temperature is that high? It should be between 22-24 Celcius, not higher.
