Temple House Estate | Sligo: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Cannot praise Temple House highly enough. We stayed here for two nights in August for my mother’s birthday. It was a big family group, 20 of us ranging from 8 to 80. The whole stay was magical from start to finish. The rooms were gorgeous, all with their own bathrooms which is impressive for a house this age. The first time driving up to the house through the extensive grounds and rounding the corner through the trees and seeing the house was truly a Pride and Prejudice ‘first time seeing Pemberly’ moment. There are a selection of cosy sitting rooms to choose from, a great selection of board games and a table tennis table (which was a big hit with the kids). They also have an honesty bar with a great selection of drinks including Guinness and Carlsberg on draft. My mum has always been enthralled with the Knights Templar and was absolutely delighted when she discovered there are the ruins of a Knights Templar castle in the grounds. Roderick was a fantastic host, so friendly and welcoming, and organised everything to perfection. He arranged a falconry experience and archery for us, both of which I would highly recommend. We had an absolutely gorgeous three course dinner on the Saturday night in the grand dining room overlooking the lake, all very Downtown Abbey. The grounds are great to explore too, we had a wander round the old stable, orchard and fairy grotto (so pretty). You can also borrow a boat to take out on the lake if you wanted to fish or swim but unfortunately we didn’t have time. Highly recommend and I hope we’ll be back some day.
Fantastic experience: We stayed at Temple House recently for a special birthday celebration. We were a group of 13 including children and a wonderful time was had by all. From the start communication with the owner Roderick was excellent. He really went above and beyond for us and was a pleasure to deal with. We were all blown away by Temple House and the surrounding countryside. It was really such a special treat and such a unique experience for everyone. We were really impressed at the immaculate condition of the house and how well it is kept. It was warm and comfortable and spotlessly clean. Having the place to ourselves was incredibly special. We took rowing boats out on the lake which was lovely and there was plenty for everyone to do. Food was fabulous and they can cater for any dietary requirements. I would highly recommend Temple House for a family gathering, re-union, wedding or special birthday. We were all left with wonderful memories which we will treasure and will definitely be making plans to visit again in the future.
Fantastic experience: My husband and our daughter stayed at Temple House around 7 years ago. At the time we had stayed at an assortment of different lodgings in Ireland; hotels, b&b’s and smaller manors. Temple House was by far our favorite. We said that for our 10 year anniversary we would come back with our family. Flash forward to today. Myself, my husband and daughter came back, but this time we brought our younger sons. We’re all a bit older, and a bit better traveled. To say that Temple House hasn’t “changed” in the 7 years since we’ve been here is complicated. Have additional rooms been renovated and added for rental - yes. Has technology been added to help modernize our stay - yes. Has the charm and hospitality of this magnificent estate changed - absolutely not. Something about Temple House keeps bringing us back. Maybe is the paddle boat rides on the lake? Or seeing the sheep freely roam the grounds? Or being able to walk near castle ruins from the eras of Knights Templar, Or maybe it’s relaxing in the sitting room, surrounded by generations of Perceval portraits and listening to Roderick recant his family’s history? We’ll be back to Temple House again, we’re already looking forward to it.
Fantastic experience: Temple house makes a superb base to explore the many attractions of Sligo and north Mayo. We stayed in the cottage which was very cosy and well equipped. Roderick was an excellent host and very responsive to any queries. Unfortunately we ran out of time to take up his kind offer of boating on the lake which is set within the grounds of the demesne. Looking forward to a return trip!
Fantastic experience: Our recent stay at the magnificent Temple House in County Sligo in Ireland was nothing short of extraordinary. We were a party of 19, gathered from Canada, New Zealand, the UK and Ireland to celebrate my mum’s 90th birthday — and we could not have chosen a more perfect place. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere and the setting is breathtaking and the views over the tranquil temple house lake, the ruins of the former Castle and rolling countryside can be seen from every window in the house. We were very fortunate to have our own private chef during our stay, who prepared exquisite dinners every evening and each meal was a beautifully cooked and served with care. It made the celebration feel truly special. Roderick was incredibly helpful and supportive in the lead-up to our stay, assisting with all the logistics and making the entire experience smooth and stress-free. His hospitality, along with that of the entire Perceval family, made us feel like treasured guests from beginning to end. Our stay at the house is a wonderful and unforgettable experience and we have come home with amazing memories and are already making plans to return.
"unforgettable experience ..... with amazing memories"
Thank you very much. We're really pleased that we were able to make your gathering so special.
Fantastic experience: We had the most unforgettable weekend at Temple House celebrating our granny’s 90th birthday with 19 of us, aged 12 to 90. It truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience! The estate is stunning, full of rich family history and beautifully decorated, like stepping into a living museum. We loved exploring the grounds, especially taking the rowboats out on the lake. Rodrick, our wonderful host, kindly lent us fishing gear and life jackets - we even caught two pike! The dinners by chef Carl were exceptional, and every member of staff was warm and attentive. It was dreamy from start to finish. Can’t recommend it highly enough!
"dreamy from start to finish"
thank you so much Blythe
Fantastic experience: Spent a few days with 20 family members at this magnificent Manor House in July 2025. Stunning property inside and out and so full of beautiful portraits, artifacts and the whole place is so luxurious. The staff are amazing and Roderic is a really charming host who is calm, casual, professional, helpful and personable. The rooms were superb and we had meals every morning and evening and everything was delicious and the service was excellent. A perfect getaway for a really special event.
'A perfect getaway for a really special event."
Thanks, Michael.
Fantastic experience: We recently attended a wedding at Temple House. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. The house is stunningly beautiful, has a warm and welcoming feel to it, and it is in a magical setting. The rooms were very comfortable, the food delicious, but most importantly of all the service was impeccable. The staff are outstanding, no detail is over looked, and they are so friendly and welcoming to guests.
"warm and welcoming"
It is important that everybody feels comfortable and at ease. - Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Magic beyond my wildest dreams! I think our photo says it all! I had envisioned and planned every detail of our wedding day from half way across the world, for just under a year. And the magic on our wedding day was beyond my expectations and wildest imagination. And believe me, my imagination is intense! Roderick and the Temple House team are warm, professional, relaxed and on the ball! The food throughout our stay, and on the big day, was extraordinary and I am a huge foodie and so are my family and friends. We booked out the whole estate (rooms and cottage) for 5 days and this allowed us to sink into the beauty and soak everything in, bit by bit, before the wedding. Temple House is such a special place for a family and friends reunion and the grounds are simply breath taking! I'd like to thank Roderick for being such a gentleman and so hands-on. I felt immediately comfortable around him and knew our big day was in the best of hands. I can't wait to return for an anniversary and get on that row boat and enjoy the lake! Though I made sure to walk around the grounds- especially on the morning of my wedding so that we could be as grounded and present as possible come showtime! I'm grateful that Roderick allowed us to add our our own touches on design and also to put up photos of our family and friends around the house. That allowed for an intimate feel throughout our stay and for our friends to enjoy on the wedding day as they explored the wonderful home and grounds. Roderick made the wedding planning process FUUUNNN! I always looked forward to connecting with him and knew he had everything under control. My fiancé - husband!! - and I live in Singapore so we didn't have the chance to see Temple House in person but loved the virtual tour Roderick gave us and knew this was what we wanted: a family home rich in history and abounding in character and warmth. We have had friends and family from Ireland, and all over the world, tell us that this was the best wedding they'd ever been to! Even the photographer said it was in his TOP 5 . haha This was music to our ears! People have been talking about it for weeks since and so we know that something very special had happened that day.
"sink into the beauty and soak everything in"
Nikki and Tarig - thank you too for choosing Temple House. And it really was fun wasn't it!
Fantastic experience: What a pleasant and beautiful place to stay! Big room, comfy bed, nice bathroom and beautiful historical furnishings and paintings and it is fun to be hosted by the 4th+ generation of family living there. The Knights Templar castle ruins on the property is a bonus! One of the best breakfasts we have had traveling here. Worth coming!
Thanks Bruno
"In our opinion an absolute must"
Thanks Peter.
Fantastic experience: Where do I start?! We had a magical, memorable, private 2 day family party here the weekend just gone. The photos do not do this glorious house justice. The main house is enormous, with massive bedrooms, exquisite common areas and simply stunning grounds, including a formal garden and a lake. It is a really special place, full of history, glamour and comfort. Not a TV in sight (but there is WIFI), it is the perfect place to leave the outside world behind. Roderick is a complete gentleman. He was helpful and available but never overbearing. He made organising the event incredibly straight forward. This was of great assistance as I do not live locally. The choice of menu is extensive and the food locally sourced and delicious. I really cannot recommend Temple House enough. We can’t wait to come back!
"photos do not do this glorious house justice"
Thank you, John. Delighted that your family enjoyed the birthday celebration.
Fantastic experience: We organised a weekend in Temple House for 35 people. Roderick and team were fantastic hosts and made everything easy in terms of planning and on the weekend itself. Food/dinner was really high quality. Temple House is a beautiful venue; perfect for a large gathering. I would definitely recommend it.
'Everything was easy'
Thanks, John. Glad you enjoyed your break.
Fantastic experience: I have visited Temple House 6 times in the past 9 years. Each stay at the house has been a delight! Roderick and Helena are gracious and accommodating hosts, with attentive and pleasant staff, and comfortable and inviting rooms. I plan on returning next year!
See you again soon!
Fantastic experience: Feels like home! Beautiful and very comfortable. Food is creative and delicious.Teaghan is wonderful
'Food is creative and delicious'
Thank you very much.
Fantastic experience: Just wonderful!
Thanks very much
Fantastic experience: We had our work Christmas party here. A fantastic experience. The food was excellent and we all felt right at home and well looked after. I especially liked the pea risotto and the vegetarian wellington. Yum! WiFi perfect for work calls also, all seamless
Thanks Joyce. Glad you enjoyed it. You skipped the clay pigeon though!
Fantastic experience: Fabulous house and grounds. Great food. Warmand welcoming host. Highly recommend!
So glad that you enjoyed your family gathering.
Thank you.
Fantastic experience: My father worked on the Temple House Estate during the 1950s. We were born and lived in the Grand Gate on the Estate until 1959. We returned as a family for the first time on October 5th 2023. We stay in the main house and had an absolutely wonderful time. Roderick and Helena Perceval looked after us so well. We were all thrilled. We will be back
'thrilled'
Thanks Pat
Fantastic experience: On behalf of everyone in our golf party Roderick, I just wanted to say a huge thank you! We all had an amazing time, and your calm and laid back approach added to all the enjoyment! Temple House is a very special place, and it will live long in our memories!
"golf party" in both senses
Thanks Jock, it was fun having you all.
Fantastic experience: We had a very last minute wedding due to a family illness at Temple House. Roderick really pulled out all the stops helping us pull this together in less than 4 weeks. He was so helpful and approachable that he really made this stress free for us. The night before the wedding we had a delicious dinner with family and had the whole house to ourselves to relax in, it was such a great idea before the madness of the wedding itself. The wedding day exceeded our expectations, such an amazing venue to celebrate with family and friends. The food on both days was so delicious, so many of the guests are still talking about it. The chef and their team really are amazing. Thanks Roderick and team for a unforgettable experience. We really wish this day never ended.
"pulled out all the stops"
It was a great party! Thank you to all the family who made it possible.
Fantastic experience: By far the highlight of our trip! Amazing property, amazing host, amazing history. Love love love
"highlight of our trip"
Thanks Meg. Hope to see all the family here another day.
Fantastic experience: Temple House is a movie-set experience, an enormous, grand old house by the ruined castle by the lake on grounds larger than most public parks. The owner/host, surrounded by his ancestral portraits, made us feel like genuine house-guests. This would be a brilliant place for a large group — wedding, corporate retreat, board, startup team, you name it. Sligo town is an easy hop, plus pub and restaurant options in nearer villages. Don't miss this one, it's a once-in-your-life thing to do. (Can't wait to go back ;-)
"a movie-set experience" - quite like that - thank you very much. So pleased that you 'got it' and very glad that you enjoyed your stay.
Fantastic experience: Very very special, an unusual combination of history and hotel. We were the only guests and felt like Brad and Janet in Rocky Horror Picture Show. The staff was very friendly! Breakfast was good. Thanks!
Many thanks!
Fantastic experience: Temple House is a must-do experience. Authentic period living, starting with 400yrs of Perceval family portraits on the walls. We did a 3generation family weekend, adults loved the grand scale bedrooms and cosy morning rooms, kids explored endlessly around the house, the estate, the lake, and nearby Keash Caves. Our host, Roderick, was welcoming, unobtrusive, and obliging. Not to be missed!!!
"We did a 3 generation family weekend"
It was great having you.
Thank you very much so such the lovely picture you have painted.
Fantastic experience: We got married at Temple House on October 22, 2022, and stayed for two nights along with our family and closest friends. Booking Temple House was the best decision we made about our wedding. It was absolutely perfect. Roderick is a fantastic party planner. He knows how to keep the energy flowing in the right way, and he makes sure that everyone is taken care of. We live in Toronto, and his communication was always on-point. Before we booked, he facilitated a thorough tour via Hangouts, and then accommodated my parents on a visit around the venue. The ceremony room has the most stunning windows and skylight. It poured rain all day of our wedding, but despite that, the room was so bright and welcoming. Even though we didn't get many opportunities for photos outside, the house itself is so gorgeous! Our friends commented that our photos look like something from a movie. The food was to-die for. The soda bread!!! The apple & rhurbarb crumble!!!! The pork belly!!! We served a four course meal for the wedding dinner and every plate was clean. It felt like the food was made with love. The house wine was delicious, and the midnight snacks were hoovered up. The accommodations are stunning. Even though the rooms are huge, they felt so cozy and warm. The beds were some of the most comfortable we'd ever slept in! Temple House bewitched our family and friends, and we enjoyed every second of our time there. Thank you so much to Roderick and team for making our weekend so special! We can't wait to come back some day.
"we enjoyed every second of our time"
That is what we strive for. Thank you both, Maria and Ollie.
Positive experience: The accommodations were terrific. The owners could not have been nicer. My only issue was the weak breakfast. The breakfast selections and food quality did not compare to several other places we stayed in Ireland. There was no breakfast chef. Just a part-timer and the owner.
I think I'll just respond with this from another mention. "we ate amazingly across the whole weekend- from tasty breakfasts provided to order..." It must have been a bad day for one of us since I am the breakfast cook! ....
Start with Irish apple juice and smooth pure orange juice. Perhaps you prefer to ease yourself in to the day with strong French press ground coffee or freshly brewed loose leaf tea.
Choose from our homemade granola, rhubarb compote from the walled garden, Greek style Irish yoghurt, a range of fruits and selection of traditional cereals. Home made brown soda bread is a real favourite too.
Move on the main event – the full Irish breakfast. Free range eggs (fried your way, scambled or poached), thick Irish rashers, sweet grilled tomatoes, black & white pudding and sausages both from our local butcher. Toast too and more coffee or tea if you need it.
Maybe this was not communicated well on the day.
Fantastic experience: Temple House is a true gem. We stayed there for five nights during August 2022, and also hosted our wedding there. First of all, the actual house is beyond gorgeous - the pictures do not do it justice. The gardens, the lake and old temple ruins in the background create the most idyllic setting. Not only is the house beautiful, historic, and well-maintained, the staff is incredible. Every single person went above and beyond to ensure we had a nice stay. Our wedding day was everything that we had imagined and so much more. As we are from the US, it was a little scary planning a wedding so far away from home and not seeing the venue until a few days before the ceremony. However, Roderick and his team were so easy to work with, and they all truly went above and beyond. If you are going to Ireland and are interested at all in the Sligo area, I highly recommend that you stay at Temple House. It's close enough to the town that you can easily tour the famous Strandhill Beach, Benbulben (Ireland's table mountain), and Sligo town, but it's also tucked away enough that you truly feel like you are on a country holiday. It's the best of both worlds. Also, if you are even considering hosting a party or event and you've come across Temple House, just do it. Roderick, Diandra, Chef Vickie, PJ, and so many more make an incredible team and will ensure that your special event will be just that: special and memorable. They've truly got something very special going for them, and I hope you'll decide to experience it for yourself.
"They've truly got something very special going for them, and I hope you'll decide to experience it for yourself."
Thank you so much for your kind words. We thoroughly enjoyed hosting you wedding party too!
Fantastic experience: Perfection! Superb accommodation with lots of attention to details. Breakfast was an absolute delight as was the wedding that we were celebrating. Fantastic team and host. Thank you for an unforgettable stay!
So glad that you enjoyed it! Thank you. Come again.
Fantastic experience: My husband and I had our wedding at Temple House. Roderick was very accomodating - he allowed our dog to come to the ceremony/have some photos taken inside with us, he allowed us to use biodegradable confetti outside, he agreed to our dietary requests and was always quick to reply to emails and help out where needed. The food was absolutely amazing. Chef Vicki is incredibly talented. Many guests commented on the food and some said 'it was the best beef they ever had at a wedding'. The wedding package that Temple House does is lovely as it includes two nights in the house. It was lovely the night before to relax with immediate family/friends and have dinner together. The rooms in Temple House were beautiful. We had 117 at our wedding and everything went smoothly. Thanks again to all at Temple House for a fantastic time. Emma and Mark.
"wedding package that Temple House does is lovely"
Emma and Mark, we enjoyed hosting your day very much - thank you.

Fantastic experience: This was the best place I have stayed at in Ireland. It is not a hotel, but a bed and breakfast beyond my expectations. The rich history of the estate and artifacts of the Perceval family throughout the home are like living in a period of history. The castle ruins of the last of the Knights Templar are the best photo ops I've seen. Roderick and his family go out of their way to make you feel at home and comfortable. Thanks to their son, George for the fresh dinner every evening sourced from local producers. Full Irish breakfast similar to a Canadian farmer's breakfast. 10/10
"you feel at home and comfortable"
Many thanks Kim
Fantastic experience: I was here for a women's wellness retreat for a week and it was amazing. Roderick was so hospitable and kept us all entertained. And the food was to LIVE FOR! So delicious. It's such a great place to stay if you want to fulfill your Bridgerton fantasy or want to experience the Irish countryside. All the rooms are amazing and no matter where you are the views are amazing. Also the ruins are the coolest things ever!! I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be back!
"the food was to LIVE FOR"
Thanks Sarah. Look fwd to seeing you again!
Fantastic experience: What an incredible stay. A real Downtown Abbey experience. We spent 5 days with our extended family (Nieces and Nephews ages 4-12). Incredibly family friendly. But yes, you need to keep the kids in check with all the historical pieces. They spent most of the time outside running around the grounds and boating on the lake. Not one minute of telly for 5 days, it was that much fun. Forest walks for miles, paradise! As a previous reviewer said, the pictures really don't do it justice. You are transported back in time to a real lived-in estate. If you want a traditional bland hotel experience, this isn't for you. It's just something incredibly unique and special. The place is dripping in family history and luxury. It's like being transported back in time to 18th century but with the comforts of the 21st century. If you are in anyway inclined to experience what it must have felt like to live that Downtown Abbey country estate life, this is definitely a bucket list stay. And on top of everything meet the humble and welcoming family that still runs it 350 years later!
"family history and luxury"
Thank you very much. 5 days without TV - who would believe it!
Fantastic experience: We stayed at the Temple House Gardener’s Cottage for a family wedding at Temple House. It exceeded all expectations, including the glorious weather. Roderick and his team were just fabulous in every respect. It was an unforgettable two days.
Thanks Michael. Glad you enjoyed your stay and the party. It was fun.
Thank you very much. Much appreciated.
Fantastic experience: We were lucky enough to stay at Temple House, Sligo and host our wedding celebration there this May. The whole experience was incredible; it was the perfect place and really elevated the whole thing beyond our expectations. I could probably write a thousand words on how amazing a setting this house and it's grounds are; the grand rooms on the first floor are beautiful - the stair hall will blow your mind, all of the bedroom suites are great (and some are down right spectacular), the multiple grand (yet cosy) sitting rooms are the perfect place to relax. The whole house is full of artifacts and art that (I guess) have been collected over hundreds of years by the Perceval family - you could spend hours in each room just taking it all in. The grounds are beautiful to look at in all directions, and even better to walk in and explore. We felt confident about booking Temple House immediately after talking to Roderick Perceval - who lives there and hosts. It was clear we would be in very safe hands, yet it would feel personal and casual. The experience was like that throughout - Roderick and his team ensured everything was perfect for us but at the same time it really felt like we were all friends at someone's house party (with amazing food). It was the best. It felt like a home for us for the few days we stayed there and we can't wait to go back. I really couldn't recommend it highly enough!!!
"We felt confident about booking Temple House immediately"
That is really important to us because it's a very special day! Thank you.
Fantastic experience: We had our wedding at Temple House last May, 2022 and it was a complete dream come true from start to finish! Temple House and the grounds are beyond stunning and the atmosphere inspires the imagination in a unique and special way. The entire staff and the owner and host, Roderick, created an unbelievable experience with the care they take with the space, the incredible food, in-house bar, service, and easeful accommodations of any dietary restrictions or otherwise with our wedding guests, that we felt very spoiled the entire weekend! The layout of Temple House was such an amazing place to have a wedding. We had around 100 people and it was so nice to see everyone enjoying all the different rooms and the grounds. We also were able to sleep 33 of our closest friends and family for 3 nights at Temple House and spend time together in the most incredible place. Couldn't recommend more!
"layout of Temple House was such an amazing place to have a wedding"
Thank you very much - we really enjoyed hosting your party. You and your lovely family and friends made it easy.
Fantastic experience: Attended a weeding at Temple house, The place, food, staff and service was superb.
Delighted to hear that you enjoyed the party. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Roderick and his staff hosted a fabulous birthday weekend and party. Our family stayed for the weekend and enjoyed the house and grounds (including boating on the lake). Then we had dinner and drinks for 45 people in the dining room at one long table. Could not be happier with the service, ambiance and general enjoyment of the weekend. Would highly recommend.
"a fabulous birthday weekend"
The big house was built to entertain. It works so well.
45 on the one table was a first for us and we were delighted with the ambiance too. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Temple House hosted our wedding in Feb 22 and in short, they provided us with the wedding we asked for and much more besides. We can’t find fault with the facilities or the team that worked so hard for us. Roderick proved a knowledgeable and helpful host, from the point of first contact to the final minutes of our stay. Over the wedding “weekend” he was always available without ever being in the “way”. The House itself is a wonderful wedding venue, the combination of different areas and rooms available works beautifully. Our pre-wedding family meal was excellent as was the catering and setting for the 50-guest wedding meal. The rooms for those guests lucky enough to be resident were in same cases stunning, and in all cases generously sized and extremely comfortable and despite the dusting of snow on car roofs in the morning, warm and cosy. Finally, and notwithstanding the weather, without exception, all the guests were wowed by the House setting.
"...guests were wowed by the House setting"
Peter and Clare, It was a real pleasure hosting your wedding party. I think you'll agree that Temple House works well for all sorts of parties. Thank you very much.
Fantastic experience: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Temple House. Beautiful house and grounds with comfortable and spacious rooms throughout. The 4 course dinner was delicious. Roderick is an exceptionally warm host. He takes great care in getting to know each of his guests by name.
Thanks Aideen. We thoroughly enjoyed having you.
Fantastic experience: Amazing weekend....Roderick and staff were 5* plus...
Thanks Carmel. It was a great w/e!
Fantastic experience: We had a wedding reception with Roderick and Helena. The attention to detail throughout the entire event and the lead up to the same was absolutely superb. We had the entore house at our disposal in this very special family home. We were treated with upmost professionalism throughout. The food was absolutely superb It is a very special venue and we would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone thinking of a special function or wedding.
Robert and Elizabeth,
Thank you. It was a real pleasure to host your wedding party. Your guests were charming and we thoroughly enjoyed looking after you all.
Fantastic experience: Stumbled across this lovely house with beautiful lakeside views. Will definitely book in to stay next year. Thank you for letting us stroll around the grounds.
Looking forward to seeing you next time. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Stunning venue, authentic dive into old world splendour. We only stayed one night but will surely return. Hosts are gracious, no airs or graces about the place. Lovely grounds, peaceful boating experience out on the lake. Would recommend.
Thank you very much. Much appreciated.
Fantastic experience: Its not a guesthouse...its a time traveling experience! Temple House is one of the most amazing places I have stayed in Ireland. The hotel is so genuine and the staff to match. The owner is very accomadating and we would highly recommend the clay pigeon shooting to round off a fantastic experience. The setting and atmosphere are so captivating you will not want to leave
Thanks very much. You hit some clays too! We'd describe TH as a Country House rather than hotel, a subtle but important distinction. Look forward to seeing you another time.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful house, very friendly staff
Thanks Karen
Negative experience: Beautiful hotel, poor for the local environment. Surrounded by breathtaking countryside and the hotel has no care about the local community. Firework displays at 11 pm causing distress to local animals. My horses have had been frightened to the point of injury. And one of my cats ran away for a week. No response. No apology. As long as they're making money... Shameful behaviour
The fireworks were arranged formally and correctly by a couple who were married here. They were unable to enjoy a band under c19 regulations so they decided to treat their guests to fireworks instead.
Of course we are sorry to hear that your horse was spooked. You emailed and we replied in good faith but have heard nothing since. We'd be happy to liaise in a construction manner if we host another display.
Fantastic experience: We got married in Temple House last month! Roderick was so helpful during our planning stages and always on hand to answer any questions or queries we had. The few days we spent in Temple House will never be equaled. Some of our guests enjoyed clay pigeon shooting and the boating facilities, while others explored the beautiful gardens. The staff were fabulous, they were all so friendly and helpful, going above and beyond to make our day run smoothly. The food was absolutely gorgeous, from Helena’s beautiful baking to Chef Vicki’s amazing canapés and our main meals! Our dream of getting married outside was put at risk by the inclement weather but Roderick was quick to come to the rescue with an alternative plan. The final point to note was how great everyone in Temple House was with our nieces and nephews (aged 4 - 9), they were spoiled and entertained by Roderick and all the staff. We are looking forward to returning! Thank you to all in Temple House for giving us such an amazing unforgettable experience.
Lisa and DJ - thank you so much. It was a beautifully relaxed party. See you soon!
Fantastic experience: We have just returned from Temple House, having stayed in this beautiful House for 2 nights while attending a wedding there. It is a beautiful place ,so relaxing and tranquil. The owner Roderic Perceval ,was so good to us all ,his attention to detail was exceptional ,he was so friendly and helpful he even allowed me to "Stoke"the fire The house is fabulous and serves very good food, the bed was the most comfortable bed that we have ever slept in. Thank You to Roderic and his wonderful staff for a great 2nights spent there.Jimmy and Arlene Carroll.
'Relaxing and tranquil'.
Even when were adding timber to the fire! Thank you.
Fantastic experience: We have just had the most amazing wend in Temple house to celebrate a family birthday. The house was so comfortable, full of history, in the most stunning setting. Our kids had the best time running around the grounds playing, out on the lake in boats and the adults loved the clay pigeon shooting, facilitated by Roderick and his family. The food was incredible and the warm, friendly , relaxed manor in which Roderick, Helena, and the amazing staff meet and host their guests make it a truely unique venue. We could not recommend it highly enough and thank you for giving us a most memorable and funfilled wend.
Siobhan, thank you so much. We really enjoyed having your family stay too.
Fantastic experience: An incredible venue, excellent staff and delicious food. I could not rate it highly enough
Thanks Eamonn. Glad you enjoyed the party.
Fantastic experience: What a beautiful location in the heart of Sligo. The drive into Temple House invites you in and the House will take your breath away on first sight. Roderick is a complete gentleman. Many Thanks.
Thank you Patrick. Look forward to seeing you again.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic location, brilliant hosts - there aren't enough superlatives to describe the experience!
Thanks Joe. Appreciate it.
Fantastic experience: What a sight it was driving up to Temple House in the snow, our chat instantly was on setting the scene of an Agatha Christie-esque whodunit. A fabulous place to stay, and for our friend's wedding, something different and very special. Roderick and all the staff were charming and excellent in their attention throughout, the food was superb and the rooms luxurious. Hopefully will return in the near future to further explore the incredible estate, the lake, Knights Templar ruins and to relax beside the fireplace.
Thank you so much. Look forward to your return.
Fantastic experience: Myself and my husband, had our eye on Temple House as a potential wedding venue for a while, as we didn't want to have a regular hotel wedding. Roderick was very involved from the start in helping us to tailor the celebration to our wishes and provide a memorable event for our friends and family; several of our guests told us it was the best they'd ever been to, and the quality of the food and ambience of the venue came in for particular praise. We can't wait to return for our one year anniversary.
Elaine and John. It was a real pleasure. Thank you for your kind words. See you next year then!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic Venue, Dood & Service - Excellent
Thanks v much!
Positive experience: A step out of time. Quite delightful.
Many thanks. Glad you enjoyed your stay.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful food and beautiful place.
Thank you so much.
Fantastic experience: Old world luxury with a warm welcome and modern dining. Lovely spot for relaxing or as a base for touring Sligo. 2nd stay, will be back again
Nicely put. Thank you. Look fwd to seeing you again.
Fantastic experience: Loved the tranquility of it we stayed in what was the Gardeners house ( sleeps 8 ) all mod cons ... would come back here now we've found it
Thank you very much. The Gardener's Cottage has its own listing BTW.
Fantastic experience: I stayed at Temple House as part of a Celtic Spiritual Tour with 11 other women, and it was an extraordinary positive experience. Both Roderick and Helena were exceptional proprietors who ensured our requests were met with friendly and generous resolve. The grounds are magnificent, with an abundance of ancient trees and ruined castles to explore. It is such a unique manor with a long standing family history and I highly recommend this to any traveller seeking a true Irish country experience like no other. Exquisite country and I hope to come back and stay again. Thank you so much.
"recommend this to any traveller seeking a true Irish country experience". Thank you so much!
Positive experience: Great conversation in a fabulous location
Many thanks.
Fantastic experience: I am so grateful to have stayed and experienced the warm hospitality and kindness offered by Roderick and his staff at Temple House. No matter how late no matter how early, they were always available to me and others. Aside from the great atmosphere, history, scenery, and accommodations, Chef Dave was the absolute highlight and reason for all the amazing, delicious, and fresh well cooked meals...absolute and brilliant perfection. Will be back super soon! :)
Thank you. It was fun having you!
Fantastic experience: Our extended family had a rare treat staying at Temple House for a family reunion. Our party of 21, aged 3 to 85, took the entire main house, plus a four bedroom estate cottage for a week. Roderick treated us very well, cooking superb breakfasts, arranging for lovely dinners (whether simple or sumptuous as the occasion required). The house is on a grand scale with several massive bedrooms three sittings rooms and a beautiful double height hall and staircase. It is stuffed full of extraordinary paintings and objects that have come down through the family including a nineteenth century Broadwood piano in working order and exquisite oriental carvings. Hopefully Roderick will guide you through the various portraits in the dining room while offering a potted family history. The private grounds offered acres of space for kids to run wild or adults to walk and jog, not to mention the boating and fishing opportunities. Some of us hadn’t seen much of Sligo before, and the house is in a really good spot, near caves, old tomb sites, sheep dog show, a short drive to beautiful beaches, and less than an hour’s drive to Croagh Patrick. Roderick is extremely friendly. You are staying in a family home, but on a large scale.
Thanks Coleman. It was fun having you. Having the piano played so beautifully was great too.
Fantastic experience: What an amazing place spectacular decor spacious and perfect for quiet time
Many thanks.
Fantastic experience: Your mind will be blown by how beautiful and grand it is.
Warm and welcoming too. Thank you so much.
Fantastic experience: A beautiful place to stay, set amongst the property’s lush green fields and lake. Roderick is a wonderful host and made me feel very much at home. Food great and staff very friendly. A must stay if you’re in Sligo
Thanks Matt. It was a pleasure.
Fantastic experience: Understated elegance
Thank you very much.
Fantastic experience: Had an amazing stay. Gourmet dinner and a wonderful host. Our room was lovely as well.
Thanks Jennifer. It was a pleasure to meet you.
Positive experience: Unique, eclectic, peaceful, inviting
Thank you, Gary.
Fantastic experience: It is a lovely contemporain house with view on the lake a great place to stay and run by a very nice couple and the food is very tasty a first choice for a special event of your life
Thanks Antoine. We enjoy hosting weddings and house parties of any size.
Fantastic experience: Of all the places we stayed on our trip, this was the most impressive. A true manor house, with paintings of the family dating back to the 1600's. Excellent dinner and breakfast. All the guests are together in the dining room, more like visiting friends than paid guests. The grounds were fun to explore, and though we didnt have time to take one out, you can take a rowboat out on the lake. Roderick was a marvelous host. The furnishings were sumptuous. I had furniture envy so badly. Wish we could have have several more days to stay here.
"Of all the places we stayed on our trip, this was the most impressive"
Thank you very much
Fantastic experience: Beautiful and magic place. Worth to visit
Thanks for that
Fantastic experience: Not to be missed. It is truly how traveling should be.
Ian, thank you so much. It was a pleasure.
Fantastic experience: Great place to stay
Thank you. There is lots to do in the area - 1 night is not enough.
Negative experience: freezing cold. lack of seating. we felt we were disturbing the owner. very disappointed
I do not know who you are and do not believe that you actually stayed! What are you reviewing? We do not provide seating. Temple House is a beautiful place for B&B, house parties and weddings! Why submit such a misleading 'review'.
Fantastic experience: Amazing place to stay! Real old world feel with comfort, luxury and fabulous surroundings. The breakfasts are smashing as well and the owners and staff are great folks. Very convenient to Sligo as well.
"fabulous surroundings" Thank you very much.
Positive experience: Temple House is an Irish Georgian Manor House in Co Sligo, on the Wild Atlantic Way. Inhabited since the 1600s by the Perceval family, it overlooks the castle of a 13C. Knight Templar, beside a lake. The grounds are extensive, the countryside beautiful, the accommodation sumptuous.
Thanks Paul.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful location, amazing food and generous hospitality from the owners. A must stay!
Thanks very much.
Fantastic experience: Greatest place that we've stayed since we are in Ireland. The estate is gorgeous and you can find an old Templar's mansion on site. The Perceval's family treated us with generosity and kindness. The high light of our vacation in Scotland and Ireland!
A Templar castle, no less. Thank you very much. It's been a pleasure.
Fantastic experience: We arrived very late (around 11pm) and Roderick was great - staying up late himself to help us settle in. We wish we could have stayed more than 1 night, but we loved what time we did spend there. The room (Superior Double Room – Porch) was HUGE (the pictures didn't do it justice) and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and the other guests were pleasant company while Roderick served us. The room was full of books that talked about the area and Temple House specifically. Before we left we visited the Templar ruins and the garden. This place was more expensive than other local options, but we loved the unique things they offered.
It was no bother - you were good enough to let us know that you were running late. Value for a money is a great term.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful surroundings exellent food and child friendly
Thank you for your kind words. Our ambition is to make every stay memorable.
Fantastic experience: Unique, unspoilt, family run stately home in beautiful grounds. New discoveries even after 5 days of being here. This edifice was our choice of wedding reception venue with great success due to the dedication, hard work and commitment of the owners who you will find working at the "coal face", with a brilliant, equally dedicated team of cheerful friendly staff including wedding coordinator. Very good value on the financial front with many contacts in the area for all the extra services.
"New discoveries". There is much to do in County Sligo and beyond.
Positive experience: One of my Favorite places to go. Owners have had this in the Family since the 15 century. Owner host Roderic Perceval is the most gracious host to this luxurious Bed and Breakfast. A must Stay Irish Gem. Acres of historic grounds of the Knights of the Templer ruins. Lake, trails, boating, fishing, sheep covered fields, and a photo opportunity everywhere. For an extra fee you can have dinner in their grand dinning room. U really do fell like royalty. Love the place.
"A must Stay Irish Gem." - Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Read about Temple House in a guidebook and visited on my first trip to Ireland in 1992. I loved the grounds, the garden, the ruins , the lake and most of all the hosts. We were treated like old friends. Great food and craic. Hope to one day visit again.
It would be a pleasure to see you again. Thanks for your kind words.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful house and grounds. The owner is very friendly and there is a bird-of-prey sanctuary nearby which is well worth visiting.
Thanks you for your kind words. It's www.eaglesflying.com and it is indeed an excellent show at 11am and 3pm every day.
