Mornington House: Opinions
Fantastic experience: The place was beautiful full of old world charm ancient woodland and walled garden the bedrooms were spacious with a great bathroom.we had tea and cake on arrival provided by our host the very interesting Warick o hara who ran the whole show with a sumptuous breakfast in the morning with homemade blueberry pancakes, then off for a stroll around the magnificent grounds...thank you Warick for a lovely time, recommended if you want a quiet break from it all....five stars.
Fantastic experience: A large country manor located some 15km outside of Mullingar and 6km from the nearest pub/restaurant. Your own transport is a must for this place. The house is set in 50 Acres of countryside and surrounded by gardens. If you want peace, solitude and black night skies then this is the place for you. The house is full of history and Warrick is a good story teller, who is happy to share photos, letters and memories of a life that once was. The house is decorated as you would expect and all that is missing is a couple of gun dogs in front of the fire. That said, there is still wifi but only a poor mobile signal. When we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome, tea, coffee and homemade cakes. The hosts skills did not end there, he also cooks a mean breakfast, with fresh coffee, blueberry pancakes and quality hot food cooked to order. Also on the estate is a self-contained studio/yoga/business suite. This consists of a converted barn with modern oil central heating, lighting and alarm systems, which is available to hire, separately.
Fantastic experience: These little gems are hard to find amongst a corporate plethora of hotels and over commercialization.
Fantastic experience: Super B&B, great location an hours drive from the airport at Dublin, in beautiful countryside, charming hosts, sumptuous old world lodging, thick crisp white bedding, delicious cooking, morning pancakes from heaven! Five star *****
Fantastic experience: Our visit dates back to 2004, so out of date but it was a lovely experience. Still remember the place they sent us to for dinner in Multifarnem, ate in front of a peat fire! Delicious duck. Another guest from the Inn was there too. He was down from NI for the races. Shared a cigar with my husband outside, very nice gentleman. . At breakfast the other couples were from Missouri too. Small world! Glad to see still open.
Thanks for the great review Cindi. We are delighted you remembered having a pleasant stay with us and we very much appreciate hearing from you after such a long time. Best regards, Patrick O'Hara
Fantastic experience: Fantastic spot. Anne & Warwick were wonderful hosts. The family really enjoyed our weekend. The food and atmosphere were perfect.
Fantastic experience: A stand-out end to our trip: we got the room including dinner (cooked by Anne), which is a real experience: drinks in the drawing room, candlelight dinner at the big dinner table, and of course excellent conversation with one's fellow guests. Anne and Warwick make you feel truly welcome in their home. The breakfast (provided by Warwick) was excellent too. (they use homegrown fruit & veg, from their own Victorian Walled Garden, whenever possible). Highly recommend a stay at Mornington House if you're looking for something a bit special.
Fantastic experience: Anne and Warwick are wonderful hosts. The food along with the personalised service was outstanding. A great break away from the standard hotel experience. Definitely recommend Mornington House.
Fantastic experience: I enjoyed a wonderful weekend stay at Mornington House with some friends to escape the city for some relaxation and country air. I felt totally looked after, kind of in the home from home sense - the accommodation was luxurious with spacious bedrooms, high ceilings, grand dining room a charming living room with a great open fire in the evenings and fabulous grounds to explore - pack your wellies. The O'Hara's were attentive without being overbearing, sharing some of the history of the house, and the food was amazing (a lot of the produce comes from their home garden - check out their blog for the recipes)! I would highly recommend a stay at Mornington House and with it being only an hour drive from Dublin it's just right for a short or long stay. Excellent value for money. :)
Fantastic experience: Stayed with Anne and Warwick for a long weekend. The two are fantastic hosts very friendly and accommodating. The house and grounds are spectacular and the breakfast alone is reason to come back! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back soon.
