Our comment from FitFit Ireland about FLYEfit Ranelagh:
FLYEfit Ranelagh is a well-located gym in Dun Laoghaire, known for its friendly and supportive staff, making it a welcoming place for newcomers. Users appreciate the new machines and variety of equipment available, which offers a good range for workouts at an affordable price point. The atmosphere is generally positive, creating great vibes among the community.
However, several aspects need improvement. Many reviews mention that the gym can get overcrowded, especially during peak hours, making it difficult to access equipment. Additionally, there are consistent complaints about broken or outdated machines and the maintenance of facilities, with reports of dirty changing rooms and poor shower conditions.
Despite these challenges, FLYEfit Ranelagh remains a popular choice for those who appreciate its affordable membership and friendly environment. It is recommended to visit during off-peak hours for a more enjoyable experience.
Services, Machines and Guided Classes
FLYEfit Ranelagh: Opinions
Negative experience: Music way too loud
Fantastic experience: I love working out there. Super friendly staff. And new machines.
Negative experience: For €40 a month, you get outdated, ramshackle equipment that looks hastily thrown together and often remains broken for months before being repaired. The changing rooms are filthy and unsanitary, and peak times bring severe overcrowding. Flyefit has effectively established a virtual monopoly on gyms in many parts of Dublin, and it seems to be exploiting this with relentless price hikes and declining service quality. In any other European country I know of a gym like this would be laughed out of existence.
Negative experience: The temperature of the water in the showers is 0° degrees, not even slightly warm, and no one is fixing this problem.
Fantastic experience: All good, well equipped. Air heating in the changing room.
Negative experience: Lots of equipment (I’m not fussy about how old/new the machines are) and space. Showers are grim. Dirty, with cold water
Negative experience: Cold showers today :(
Negative experience: Would give it a zero if I could. The changing rooms are like a scene out of Beirut. I’ve seen stained boxers on the ground, left there for hours, the toilets should be studied for gathering of bacteria and faeces, and the equipment is almost as bad on the gym floor. There are two areas usually used for core. However, one of the evenings I was minding my own business as a paying customer doing some planks, and a member of staff interrupted me mid set to say she was starting a yoga class or some waffle in a few moments, and asked me to use the other core area which I hadn’t an issue with. I then moved to that section, and again was interrupted by another member of staff that there was a separate group class starting there soon. When I said where am I supposed to do my core work, he said you have an entire gym to do so, clearly not though when the two specific areas for this type of work are being used. It wouldn’t be very safe for me to do a plank beside the benches now would it? You really get what you pay for… total rubbish. I have changed to a real gym, Southside Gym, and haven’t looked back. Kip.
Fantastic experience: Big place with good machines
Negative experience: Very busy gym all day every day as far as I can tell, somehow I still find it hard to find or even see a member of staff whenever I come here. Most of the machines have the weights rubbed off so you can’t tell how heavy a stack really is, even a bit of marker on top of it would do the job. Otherwise it’s a good gym, just feels like it’s been forgotten about or ignored
Negative experience: For more than two weeks, 2 machines have been broken. There are only 2 of them in the gym.
Positive experience: Music way too loud
Negative experience: By far the worse gym I have ever been. Equipments remain broken for weeks, now they decided to turn the ar conditioner off to squeeze the costs. That’s the only gun nearby, so they take advantage of this
Positive experience: Crowed - most in summer period- with group classes , best in any type of equipment required to build muscles with value for money subscription… I recommend if you have time usually mornings or late hours .
Fantastic experience: - Location is amazing Lots of equipment I’m a big fan of flyefit gyms (I go to this one when I’m in work during the week and the one at swords on the weekend) At times it can feel a little packed but understandable given its size - however, for a city based gym, I love it
Negative experience: The gym showers in the men section are disaster, the water accumulates under your feet 2 sec after you start showering! The issue addressed to the team but still the same situation. Also there were a leak from the sanitary straight on the dumbbells.
Positive experience: The gym is fine as a gym but I find their volume of music unpleasent. Every time I'm there they have classes and often more then not they turn the volume so up that not even my headphones block it at all. So I am basically forced to listen to their music or it will collide with mine on the headphones and give me headaches.
Positive experience: Too full
Positive experience: Hiç kalabalık değil.
Fantastic experience: Great work outs, Flyfit Team are consistently Top Class.
Fantastic experience: Good space could do with more equipment
Negative experience: I wrote a review a while back but deleted it because I didn't want to have to deal with the awkwardness of being recognised. At this point I don't care. You'd find more hospitable staff in a South American prison, I've had several incredibly negative encounters at this stage with multiple personal trainers. There are exceptions, and most of the staff are generally grand however many of them treat attendees as an inconvenience. The gym itself is in a handy location with decent enough equipment however I feel like I'm walking on eggshells every time I walk in. Also one final note taking up the entire stretching area with classes at peak busyness and telling people to move off it is beyond ridiculous.
Fantastic experience: I like this place, good vibes and supportive community
Fantastic experience: Great gym helpful staff
Negative experience: all good enough but now it s been months some machines are broken. everytime there is another broken machine and it doenst get fixed. i would expect the machines are kept in good conditions specially when the membership price has increased a few times now
Fantastic experience: Amazing place so the staff so friendly
Positive experience: Weird experience yesterday with the maintenance staff. I was in the ladies’ restroom last night around 19:11 the lady arrived at the restroom and started slapping the locker doors while she was walking closing them all. I was standing observing the situation which surprised me and made me feel completely uncomfortable. You're supposed to go to the gym to look after yourself and have a positive activity, how it’s possible that after that you’re at the restroom getting changed and this lady feels with the right to slap the locker doors, maybe she's not happy with her job or what in seven hells?
Negative experience: Equipment is always broken and the manager doesn’t care! Poor
Negative experience: Nicegym but managers don’t care about broken machinery which is left unattended for months on end due to lack of attention from management.
Negative experience: No space
Fantastic experience: It’s very good and organised
Negative experience: Vending machine stole my money, payed €6 for a drink becuse it didbt work the first time around, would never use the machine if i could just leave to supervalu or spar and come back, but you cant do that here, ridiculous.
Fantastic experience: Best gym ever I promise
Positive experience: Great gym, but they don't perform equipment maintenance frequently, which can be dangerous and lead to injuries
Negative experience: Lots of broken equipment, equipment that is never fixed, I have already notified the employees several times and nothing is done, I do not recommend it, this gym company has no respect for its customers.
Negative experience: Well located, not the cleanest. Has too few machines and even those are in devastating condition. This combined with the frequent increase of membership fees I gave up on Flyefit.
Negative experience: It's always crowded. And it does not have a lot of equipment, like an adductor and abductor chair.
Positive experience: It's a nice place, well located. The space is good, there are a lot of equipments. The problems are late hours because is too busy between 6 pm and 9 pm and although there are a lot of equipments, they don't have 2 of each for the most used ones.
Negative experience: Why the heck do I need to pay 20 Euros to transfer from one location to another? Which wasn’t needed before. Total bummer. Gonna quit my 9-year membership if FLYEFIT does not provide a legit reason.
Positive experience: A bit too crowded after work (and not enough air when it's too crowded), so choose the timing wisely, however benefit - cost ratio is good.
Negative experience: The gym is super crowded all the time. People just don’t leave from one place. You will have to wait 15 mins for each equipment. The equipment has got too weary and old. I would recommend Portbello branch. It is spacious and the waiting period is not that long.
Positive experience: Cleaning is lacking these days. Early morning and dust everywhere.
Negative experience: The men’s changing rooms, in particular the showers are absolutely covered in mould/ asbestos- highly unsafe at the best of times, never mind to bathe in. Every few months it just gets painted over- disgusting!! Every dumbbell in the gym is chipped and half of the machines are wobbly, boarding on unsafe. But I guess what do you expect for 35 quid a month
Positive experience: Quando um equipamento quebra, pode esquecer. Fora o cheiro de cebola no horário de pico.
Positive experience: The place for classes is small, but good.
Negative experience: El gimnasio es muy pequeño, siempre está muy lleno y faltan un montón de máquinas. Además de las pocas que hay, cuando se estropean, no las arreglan.
Negative experience: Fliefit Ranelagh, equipments broken for weeks and even months, almost no maintenance at all, what was bad has been managed to get worse by changing the power racks to new very bad quality ones. I'll be looking for another gym asap. Btw, always over croweded too, even if you avoid busy hours.
Positive experience: The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Lacks in gym facilities and seems to leak a lot when it rains. Equipment is often broken.
Positive experience: Has everything you need but if you find yourself there at 5, you'll struggle to find free equipment
Positive experience: The gym itself is fine, equipment is good and staff and changing rooms are nice. My only real issue is how crowded it gets. If I went in the evening around 6/7 my one hour work-out could easily take 2 hours from waiting so long for machines. If I went later than that I sometimes had to cut my workout short because they close the changing rooms at 9.30. Also the only area for stretching or doing body weight exercises is regularly taken up by classes leaving no real stretching space. If the gym goes back to being 24/7 I’d happily rejoin and workout around 9/10 in the evenings. TL;DR Too busy, had to cancel membership
Negative experience: Despite its convenient location, I am sad to say that I will be leaving Flyefit to join Raw Gym, which is unfortunately quite far away. My experience at Flyefit, especially the Ranelagh unit, has been the worst I've ever had in a gym. The machines are frequently broken, squeaky, or wobbly, and the cheap direct white lighting contrasts poorly with the dark walls. In addition, the maintenance of the facilities is lacking, with exposed mold, dirt, and hair in every corner, which makes working out a depressing experience. If it's a cold day, be prepared to wear a jacket because there is virtually no heating system. On the other hand, the staff at Flyefit are lovely and super friendly. I would be happy to pay €100 per month if the facilities were managed even slightly better. Flyefit could significantly improve its customer experience with small interventions, but unfortunately, there seems to be little interest from management in doing so.
Positive experience: Small gym. Lots of equipment but lots of people there using it. Unless you go during working hours or super late in the evening then it's intensely busy.
Positive experience: My t shirt dissappear from locker 3 months ago.. and today my Armani Navy track pants. Someone must love my style..soo sad. Unacceptable. Karma will hunt You
Positive experience: It does what it needs to do. Lots of use, busy most of the day, and often machines are out of order for extended period of time. Staff are super nice and helpful so extra points for that reason alone.
Negative experience: good gym but terrible working time at weekend. It closes at 8pm .there are some of us that work on weekend till 8:30 pm and because of that jobs that we do we are unable to train. It should be open on weekend saturday and sunday untill 10pm
Positive experience: Only been there once, and I went at a ‘non busy hour’ but still.. it was packed. Machines are enough but if it’s crowded good luck using them. It’s quite affordable though.
Negative experience: No card no access is the most dumb policy anyone could come up with. Been a member for a year, and forgot card only once, today, denied service, with that kind of attitude towards costumers hope you go out of business.
Fantastic experience: Very well
Negative experience: Very small gym floor but that's understandable due to location. The main issue is staff or PTs who work in the gym either directly for flyefit or for themselves try and force you off machines even when other machines are available. It's a very unprofessional setup
Negative experience: After months being a gym member, for the first time I forgot my card, and I was not allowed to go in. I had my mobile phone, and the website logged to prove my membership and I still not allowed to go in. It is unbelievable!!!
Negative experience: Not a good gym to pull legs, the few machines they have are ill-fitting or not working properly. It's fine for upper body though.
Positive experience: Good diversity and localization (not diversity with the instructors). A few machines only
Fantastic experience: New equipments and plenty of space to do your best workout practice in Ranelagh
Fantastic experience: This is my closest gym. The staff is extremely friendly and willing to help. Found there a great personal trainer and highly recommend.
Negative experience: Mor than 2 weeks this machine is broken
Negative experience: One of the worst gyms I have ever been. The equipments are always broken. Some machines are broken for months and they couldn't care less.
Fantastic experience: Very nice gym Very nice and friendly staff All equipment have there
Positive experience: Flyefit Ranelagh could open 24/7.
Fantastic experience: The gym is nice. Staff are really friendly. Great range of classes. I have been going to Pablo's spin classes. He is an amazing instructor with loads of energy. I always feel motivated in his classes even when it gets really tough!! I would definitely recommend.
Positive experience: smaller than other locations but does the job
Fantastic experience: The staff is so kind!! Hard to say who’s the most welcoming, they are all very warm!
Fantastic experience: Brilliant
Positive experience: I am a avid flyefit goer and have been to a fair number of flyefit gyms thanks to my roaming memebership. This gym is good in theory but not the best of flyefits as it can get very busy and crowded fast. thats why it lost two stars. Staff, location, and accessibility is 5 stars. This gym is great if you want to do cardio and dont mind crowded gyms and waiting for machines and benches.
Negative experience: Super small gym, no space to move much around, to do stretching, machines are not much, classes are done in a small space in between the cardio area and the weights
Positive experience: Very busy always and the Music is too high. You can't even talk.
Fantastic experience: Excellent gym
Fantastic experience: Love it. Have been going almost every morning before work to Spin and Circuit or Conditioning classes. A great start to the day. The instructors are all lovely and the facility is very decent.
Fantastic experience: Has everything you need brilliant gym
Fantastic experience: Great gym and great classes
Positive experience: Good for the price. The bookings for the session can be made from 24h before on their webpage. The webpage is simple and effective. The gym have a good range of machines. It's better to attend during the offpick times, during the week from 5-8 is packed but the atmosphere is good and the people respect each other. The ventilation could be better in the cardio zone.
Negative experience: To busy gym might as well just be open normally if there going to let that many people in at certain times
Negative experience: Small and oldest
Fantastic experience: Very good. Relaxing with the necessary but reasonable precautions.
Positive experience: There's a small amount of machines to train.
Positive experience: The gym is better now that is not crowded but unfortunately there's some people who don't care about the others and don't clean their machines as they supposed to.
Fantastic experience: A gym for all reasons.
Positive experience: Overall it got the work done. The machine area is a lil too close to each other compared to other gym ive been to but really if you come to get your work out done, you'll be in and out in no time. Lots of weights n mats available for the space, bathroom and changing rooms are clean and people are nice. Overall it's good
Positive experience: Very good
Positive experience: A place for only workout. Wish there was other things like pool or steam bath attached.
Negative experience: This gym is really lacking ventilation and it makes it harder to exercise, especially if you're going there for cardio. I avoid doing cardio there because of the ventilation. It gets very hot and hard to breathe.
Positive experience: Could improve more in the cleaning.
Negative experience: This gym is full of equipment but there is no space for physiotherapy exercises. It looks more like weights and machines storage.
Positive experience: Decent gym. Well stocked.
Fantastic experience: Best affordable gym
Positive experience: Gym is just old. The trainers are class, the location is good but the gym is too old and too packed
Positive experience: Ranelagh flyefit is very clean and all equipments working well. Rush hours in the evening after work.
Positive experience: I avoid this gym for cardio, there is no ventilation and it can become very hot in summer. Small space so there is not much options for machines and can get very crowded very quickly. But it is convenient being open 24hours and with the parking at SuperValu.
Positive experience: It’s fine. It’s convenient. Seriously lacking ventilation and not as big as portobello but has everything you need
Fantastic experience: Gokd for the price..no swimming pools or sauna but loads of different options for classes.
