Fantastic experience: I am a member of Avena Leisure and highly recommend it. The gym has loads of decent machines and free weights, there are so many classes early in the morning and evening (handy around work times). There is a swimming pool and a recovery centre (my fav) with a sauna, steam room, ice bath, and jacuzzi. It is always clean and well-maintained, and the staff are so friendly, professional, and always happy to help. It’s a great facility for both training and overall wellness ✨

Fantastic experience: Joined the gym a few weeks ago. Great setup in there, they have all you could need. Great range of classes available to all members and any instructors I've interacted with so far have been incredibly helpful. I joined a pilates class today with Sorcha. She is an absolute asset to the gym. The class was fantastic, Sorcha was engaging and you can tell really knows her stuff. On par with any pilates centre I've attended in the past! Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: Great Gym, under new management Massive upgrade to facilities - gyms is flexible and not overpacked, ration of people monitored well and lots of variety in classes. Swimming pool is really good and sauna, steamroll, accessories all kept clean and organised. 2 gym rooms for cardio and or weights with upstairs spinning classes.

Fantastic experience: Avena has been an incredible experience as moved from London to back home for a short stint. It was wonderful to meet Kieran again after so many years and there is no better man at the helm. His abundance of energy and professionalism is what every gym should have, as he and team have put in new fixtures etc (which is such a welcome addition and power to all the teams for doing over a few days) Kieran and his team of Chris etc are and will make Avena a steadfast for everyone in the community. I couldn’t speak highly enough of them all.

Fantastic experience: One of the best gyms in Sligo, recently replaced all their equipment with top of the range racks, benches treadmills etc.. 3 different gym areas so always plenty of space even at peak times, membership even includes access to all classes which is insane! Pool always a nice temp, and has jacuzzi, sauna and steam room! Friendly staff always on hand and place always looking pristine, definitely recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Negative experience: My son had membership with Avena Leisure and his membership ran out about 3 weeks ago he did not renew his membership because I had just come out of hospital after surgery and he wanted to be home to help me around the house. Yesterday he called to renew his membership and was told if he only takes 1 month membership it would be back dated to the last day he attended which basically means he would have to pay for a month but only be able to use the gym for 1 week. I actually thought they were joking when they said this. So even if you are unable to attend for whatever reason you will be charged. Sorry but I would never recommend this gym after this.

Negative experience: The website wasn’t clear about prices, the booking system for classes wasn’t working. I phoned up to ask about prices and was told it was members only. Bit confusing info as online it says non-members welcome. I’m sure it’s lovely if you are a member, lots of other great reviews.

Fantastic experience: Aveena is one of the best leisure centres I have ever joined (and I've been a member of a fair few!). The staff are excellent, changing rooms are always so clean, pool is just lovely and a gorgeous jacuzzi/hot tub as well. Would highly recommend.

Staff are brilliant, always ready to help. I have been training with Jason for about a year and have made so much progress thanks to his support and knowledge. The swimming classes for children are also great. Would recommend avena to everybody!

Fantastic experience: Great amenity to have. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. Kieran did an assessment for me and he knew what he was talking about and provided a detailed plan of action to help me in strengthening. Great spinning class there too and swimming for kids.

Negative experience: No management accountable. Men shouting at kids. Erratic behaviour....

Fantastic experience: Great Gym with excellent, clean facilities. Staff are always very helpful with fitness tips especially Kieran who has helped me with a few injuries.

Fantastic experience: Have the 15 day trial will definately be renewing member ship for long term great gym everything you need in it and after go for a dip in their pool which is 20m they have a water kind of spa in the corner to melt away aches and pains gained from gym. Love it

Positive experience: I'm a member here and I love the atmosphere and staff. I really appreciate the hard work they put it to making the place warm and welcoming. The pool itself is wonderful—clean, maintained at a comfortable temperature, well-sectioned, and safe for all swimmers—but the gym is limited for weightlifters like myself. If you're into strength training or passionate about bodybuilding, I would suggest testing the gym out before signing up, or even trying somewhere else—if you can find anywhere that isn't full of steroid-junkies and obnoxious gym-bros. They have limited machines, only two squat racks, only one of each dumbbell set, weight plates that aren't circular (which is dangerous) and not enough of them, and only one set of bumpers. This means only one person can deadlift at a time without damaging the floor. I'm still going to remain a member, but mostly because it's closer to me, because it has a great atmosphere, and because it has a pool, not because it's the perfect leisure centre. If another gym opened up in Sligo that offered a better weightlifting experience at a reasonable price with a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, I'd probably swap, even if it meant losing the pool. As it is though I'm happy to keep training at Avena!

Fantastic experience: I have been going to Avena leisure for the past two years consistently. With the plans in place and a helpful atmosphere i have lost about 45 pounds in weight \ fat!! I have always found the staff to be helpful and friendly and easy to ask questions of. There are all body types there from beginners to seasoned athletes. There is plenty of equipment. With any gym there are times when there is a shortage but everyone does work together in the busier times by sharing space and machines. Keep up the good work.
