Fantastic experience: Couldn’t recommend the lakeside enough for a wedding. Having had family events their before when we got engaged I knew it was going to be where we would have our wedding. Catherine is outstanding at what she does. We organised the wedding from abroad and she was at hand via email and zoom to help out with anything. The reception staff and bar staff on the day where amazing. The rooms where great and all the guests had a great stay. The location is great especially in a sunny day as you can sit outside for drinks reception. Food was served hot and on time which great as had been to other weddings which this was not the case. The food was of excellent quality. We all had a great day and staff where great and very accommodating to all guests. We will be recommending to all our friends who will be getting married.

Fantastic experience: We ( a group of female friends) stay here every year for a few days. We love this hotel. The staff are just lovely. The young workers ( mostly teenagers I’d say) are so well trained and incredibly friendly. They can’t do enough to help. They really are a pleasure to deal with. In fact all the staff are lovely. I don’t want to concentrate only on teenagers The food is lovely, there’s also a really well equipped gym which I use every year. I give this hotel 5 stars and can’t wait to return next year.

Negative experience: Supposed to be a 4 star hotel . People with disabilities especially wheelchair toilet access stay away. Sxtreamly poor . Could not give enough praise to staff and food service. This was 5 star.

Positive experience: A nice pool and an amazing slide. The jacuzzi was out of action though when I was there. A nice warm sauna. However, I found the gym lacking. The floor was slippery and there was no music playing. There was a lack of gym etiquette which meant I didn't get to use any of the weights I wanted to. It could use some rubber mats for lifts such as deadlifts. The staff was very friendly and helpful though.

Fantastic experience: This is such a beautiful hotel, all the staff are so lovely and go out of their warm. Beautiful gardens and the views from the rooms are just wonderful. Really tasty breakfast aswell!

Negative experience: Disaster!! Went there with family to ring in the New Year where supposedly we were to be entertained with love music. After spending 69€ per head in the restaurant, we were then told at 11pm that the music was cancelled. If we had known, we would have gone elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel in a fabulous setting on Lough Derg. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and some are set right on the waterfront. The food is excellent, generous portions, and a great selection of vegan food, which is rare in rural Ireland. The breakfast is fantastic, a huge selection of food, including a full irish and a cooked vegan breakfast. The staff have all been so friendly and helpful.

Positive experience: Beautiful hotel, nice staff, nice food and very warm welcome when we were down for breakfast by a lovely young lady called Sarah The rooms are just beautiful, only down side was the wifi not working properly in the building facing the lake, something that should be looked at as we are paying extra for the superior rooms!

Fantastic experience: Ohhh, MG, my husband and I are just home, from the best weekend stay in a hotel. I think I'd go as far as saying that it's our No1 hotel to have stayed in this year. The Lakeside Hotel is certainly run with pride, from all staff those in front of the house and behind the scenes, and it shows. It is tucked away in a beautiful setting, so tranquil and peaceful, definitely a little piece of heaven. The grounds are even kept well. It just proves that the staff you don't see are playing their part in the running of this hotel. We happened to be staying on a weekend when there were 2 weddings going on, and we were still treated as important as any other guest. The moment we entered the hotel, the staff were so friendly and welcoming. We give this hotel 100/10. I upgraded in my booking to the waterfront room, and you're staying as though you are in the main building. It certainly does not feel separate from the hotel. We would certainly recommend The Lakeside Hotel 100% for a visit, from the restaurant staff to bar staff and front of house you are treated as important as the next customer. We will be back so we can enjoy a drink or two overlooking the Shannon. Absolutely amazing place and a gorgeous setting, we are indeed planning our 2025 visit. I just can't say enough about this hotel as I feel like I'm leaving something out, Thank you to all at The Lakeside Hotel and leisure centre for a memorable weekend.

Fantastic experience: We stayed recently for a three day break. The staff are friendly, informative & very professional. The food was delicious, & the Menu offered a good choice both in the Bar & Dining Room. I attended an Aqua class in the Leisure Centre. The best Aqua I've ever participated in!!!Great instructor (Carmel?) The atmosphere was warm & friendly. The gardens are beautifully laid out. The scenery along the River Shannon was spectacular in the late autumn sunshine. Thank You all for a wonderful three days. We look forward to our next visit, already! Tommy & Paula

Positive experience: I stayed in a hotel for my birthday with family. Great activities for kids in a leisure centre, cosy restaurant with great amount of food and tasty. Staff is very polite and helpful. Big size of family room, room got a bit hot in a night time.

Fantastic experience: Stayed here on business for one night. Nice and quiet, staff were super friendly, tentative, and helpful. Breakfast was good quality food, and my room was comfortable, spacious, and most importantly, clean. Great views of the lake and lovely gardens. I can't comment on price as it was prepaid by a company. I would recommend.

Fantastic experience: My Partner and I had our wedding here in July 2024 and we couldn't have asked for a better experience or a more magical day. The hotel is wonderful, cosy but with very generous rooms, a brand new bar overlooking Lough Derg and a fantastic event room. But the real highlight are the grounds and location of the Hotel itself. We were married outdoors on the rooftop overlooking the Lake and we got so many comments from people that it felt like a Mediterranean wedding more than a typical Irish wedding. The views are spectacular and the garden itself is absolutely beautiful with multitudes of colour and again fantastic views overlooking the lake and Killaloe. The food was fantastic, not just the dinner but the Reception Hors d'oeuvre, midnight food and the snacks! Very generous with the reception drinks and wine included in the package as well! The real highlight though for Lakeside is the staff themselves (special shout out to Catherin the wedding co-ordinator). No ask was too big or question too small for us when reaching out to the Hotel in planning. Communication was always super quick so we felt very comfortable and at ease that everything was in hand. I genuinely don't know how we would have organised our wedding without Catherine. From the first time we met we knew this was the hotel we wanted to get married in. She was so warm and friendly but also extremely organised and professional with a thorough brochure and breakdown of what a wedding day in Killaloe would look like. In the build up to the wedding she was consistent in checking in with us and making sure we had outlined to her the various details and plans for the wedding itself! The rest of staff on the day were excellent as well, very friendly & efficient. Everything was kept on track even with potential for plan changes due to weather. During dinner, bar service and night food. Breakfast in bed the day after was real highlight! I would recommend the Lakeside to anyone planning their wedding!

Fantastic experience: I had the pleasure of staying at The Lakeside Hotel and Leisure Centre recently, and I must say, my experience was absolutely wonderful. One person who truly made my stay exceptional was Rehman, the breakfast staff member. Rehman was not only incredibly friendly and welcoming but also exceptionally attentive. He went out of his way to ensure that every guest's needs were met, from refilling coffee cups to accommodating special dietary requests. His warm and personable demeanor created a truly inviting atmosphere, making breakfast a delightful part of each morning.

Negative experience: I've been going to the Lakeside for years, usually as a treat with my parents to have some light food in the bar area. This time I decided to book the restaurant for the first time as a birthday gift for my mother. We were seated in the restaurant by a friendly staff member. The food was great but our server spoiled the whole occasion. To say she was careless was an understatement. Slopping food from one plate to another as she cleared the plates, spilling food on the table, dropping cutlery repeatedly on the floor. She cleared the bread baskets spraying crumbs all over the table and never cleared them up. No cutlery was taken after each course. If felt like greasy spoon service, not a nice restaurant. We had to clear the table and clear her spillages throughout our meal. My Dad spotted her taking a half drunk coffee from another table and finishing it off herself. It's a shame because the food was really delicious but the heavy handed, careless service would mean I won't be booking for a special occasion again.

Fantastic experience: This is an amazing place with super friendly staff. We arrived late at night without a booking and we had a great checkin experience with the staff at the Reception who was very helpful and even gave us suggestions on how to plan our next day. The staff helped us get the luggage to our room too. Next day we had a great breakfast spread and Rehman the Breakfast manager was very kind and helpful. He was super efficient and he made us feel at home. All in all a great experience of a beautiful location and great place. Will surely want to come back here!!

Fantastic experience: Wow, what can we say! We got married at the Lakeside, and they were absolutely incredible. The hotel itself is fab; in an amazing setting, beautiful rooms, and stunning gardens. The food both on the wedding day and the meals we had around it were brilliant. The wedding meal itself had so many compliments from our guests. Our guests enjoyed the facilities in the hotel too, the leisure centre in particular! The thing that made it all so special was the Lakeside team. Everyone we interacted with was wonderful and attentive and couldn't do enough for us and our guests. Catherine and the wedding team did such a brilliant job, and nothing was ever too much. Everyone else in the hotel made sure everything went smoothly for us all, so we can't thank you all enough! If you are considering the Lakeside for your wedding, do it!

Fantastic experience: Fantastic hotel with beautiful views. Stayed at the lakeside rooms right on the water. Dinner was incredible with gorgeous views too. The breakfast service was excellent especially by Rehman who gave such a warm welcome and amazing service.

Positive experience: I stayed here with loved ones... We have a young Minsie who is 7 months old. Shes beautiful. Each day we thank God. No lift was quite an issue as we were on the 1st floor. The hotel is nice but quite dated in parts, but also with incredible history. Grounds surrounding the hotel are magnificent. Swimming pool and service very good too. Enjoy your stay!

Positive experience: Looks to be a lovely place, unfortunately it is not made clear that guest pass access to the Leisure centre is for the swimming pool only and not for access to the gym.

Fantastic experience: Used to work here back in the day, and came back a few times while on a visit from Australia. Since I've been gone, the sun room in O'Hara's bar is excellent, beautiful views over the river. Food was quite good too, and amenities such as the pizza shed and the new lookout and apartments look great. Was really impressed, great job

Fantastic experience: I was really pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We booked the family room in July which was clean, lovely and very spacious. The hotel was very pleasantly presented but it was the staff that blew me away! Going above and beyond on more than one occasion. We had a very enjoyable meal with incredible views, staff were great and the manager was so helpful with our wine choosing. The breakfast was fab with so much choice! My little fussy eater was delighted with the pancake making machine and Nutella on tap. When we looked for more croissants at the end of breakfast the kitchen even made a fresh batch! The kids really enjoyed the swimming pool and slide. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Negative experience: Ambience lovely, furnishings lovely, my meal lovely, my wifes meal over cooked inedible, fish & chips, fish burnt batter burnt, someone's else came out looking lovely,staff response, I pass that on to chef both waiter and barman paying bill generic response, not good enough, pity, I enjoyed my steak sandwich, lovely but inconsistent and uncaring not rectifying, lots of good touches, lots done well but all ruined, all may as well have being rubbish as making a dogs dinner of her meal and not rectifying. Providing something rubbish asking how it was while charging then being told how it was and passing it off as I pass it onto the chef doesn't really cut it, not sure I even believe the chef heard criticism. Based on decor I was looking at venue for family event, small details and response changed view.

Fantastic experience: We went to the hotel to have breakfast and were thoroughly impressed. Rahman, the breakfast manager, along with the staff, was extremely polite, helpful, and made us feel very welcome. The restaurant was very clean and well-organized, which added to the pleasant dining experience. The food was excellent, and I particularly recommend the Florentine Eggs Benedict and the salmon. The open buffet was fantastic, offering a great variety of delicious options.

We cannot speak enough about the hotel, let alone the gardens. If you would like to add a plus to your life and calender this is the place to do so.

Positive experience: Lovely hotel set in a beautiful location. Our family room was very spacious with 4 beds (1 double , 3 singles) Dinner and breakfast were lovely and good portions. Had bravas chips for lunch and was very tasty. Also do pizzas for kids from the outdoor kiosk.

Very nice extra little touches in room, fresh bottled water, coffee machine and tea making facilities with handmade chocolate and shortbread. Would definitely recommend and hope to visit again.

Fantastic experience: A beautiful hotel with stunning views of the lough and of the town on the river over the bridge. We stayed in one of the waterfront rooms with sliding doors onto the lough. The bar food was lovely. The pool and gym area were clean and well serviced. There is a cold plunge pool, which is a rare thing. Extensive breakfast. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful and clean hotel. We stayed there through an on site wedding as part of the hotel block. The room was peaceful, clean & spacious. The area/town is safe and scenic. The service is what helps the hotel stand out. We had a tight Sunday travel schedule and were having a little trouble getting a cab back to Limerick. The front desk folks were incredibly helpful by calling a few other cab companies. Because of their efforts, we made it to our bus to the airport on time. They do not have an elevator on site but have folks available to help with bags if needed/desired as well

Fantastic experience: Old stylish hotel with a history and well-equipped rooms, superb leisure area with pools, a gym and saunas. Excellent pub with great food for very reasonable prices.

Positive experience: Lakeshore is fantastic but my review relates to the gym only. The gym opening is 7 am. I work in limerick and I have a child. The gym is closed all of my free time. I might be able to squeeze 40 minutes in, in the morning. It's a very hefty price for that level of access. Monday - Friday 7am - 9:45pm Saturdays, Sundays & Bank Holidays - 8am - 8.45 pm

Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel located on the banks of the Shannon with scenic views of the river and the town of Killaloe. Although we only stayed for one night it was a pleasure to stay here. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the food in the bar was excellent. We had the toasted sourdough sandwiches for lunch and that evening we had both the fish and the lemon chicken and desserts which were delicious and beautifully presented. The room was very pleasant and well appointed. And breakfast the next morning was buffet style with plenty of food of decent quality to send you on your way. Overall I would highly recommend the lakeside Hotel to anyone looking for good value,good food and quality service.

Positive experience: Had a lovely stay at the Lakeside Hotel. Stayed for one night in the waterfront rooms. The room was great with a very comfy bed, big TV, nice clean bathroom and a great view of the river with a small outside are where you can sit. Made use of the sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and cold plunge in the leisure centre which was nice and relaxing. Staff were all very friendly from reception through to the restaurant and bar.

Fantastic experience: Hotel in beautiful location on the River Shannon. Slightly apart from the main building are 16 lakeside rooms with amazing views. Every single staff member we met was happy, friendly, helpful and mostly efficient. The included breakfast buffet was very good. The leisure centre has an excellent pool as well as the usual jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and plunge pool. Again, staff very helpful. Excellent bar and casual dining room good. Unfortunately the main restaurant is not open mid week off season. Apart from one course in our chosen meals, the food was, sorry for repeating myself, excellent. Would definitely go again I felt the prices were quite reasonable.

Positive experience: We had a lovely room overlooking the Shannon River. The service in the restaurant was excellent despite being so busy.

Positive experience: Positive is location and lovely staff. Negative is the pool area and dining area. Needs a major refurbishment. Dressing room was very dirty and overall it’s not up to standard. Rooms are fine. Food was only ok, had curry, was only just ok with horrible shop bought naan bread, shame when you think homemade naan bread can be done with 2 ingredients. Also I personally found the bar/dining area so cold and not inviting. The lighting is terrible. All in all. Very disappointing as it has huge potential. Even the entrance could do with a deep clean.

Positive experience: Went to this hotel for a night, we visited the leisure centre and were satisfied with the experience. The rooms were quite spacious and the beds were comfortable. The staff were kind and hard working in the hotel. I would recommend this hotel for its location as-well, it has a beautiful view of the Shanon river and I nice outdoor viewing location. I personally didn’t do much sightseeing but It is very local to many of the towns treasured monuments and attractions to visit.

Very nice self-service breakfast but a little hectic on Sunday morning, and tables were not being cleared down on time. Attention was a little lax and was left waiting 30 mins for my omelette. I had to ask the waiter. There seemed a bit of a headless chicken approach when it got really busy around 10am. Monday morning was much better due to limited guests. Dinner was great with decent size portions and very tasty food all around. Service was mostly great but was slightly let down by the young bar staff on the Sunday who were a little unattentive and mildly rude. We had a 3 course dinner in the dining part of the bar, very nice ambience. Our waiter did not visit the table enough and we noticed other tables around us were not being cleared. We waited a good half hour for a waiter to appear so we could get the bill. After dinner we had moved from the restaurant area to the bar area -we again noticed the lack of attention , the two staff that were on were telling their life stories for everybody to hear among the silence of the bar on Sunday evening, no music live or piped so there was a bit of a poor vibe. I wad served a pint in a glass that was caked in lipstick, which I handed back. All in all I'm removing 1 star . Would return in future.

Positive experience: Really enjoyed our stay here. Room was a great size with nice view overlooking the river and bridge. Great buffet breakfast with lots of options.

Fantastic experience: Attended this hotel for a wedding and it was exceptional from start to finish. Stunning views & the food & service was top class. Well done to all the staff.

Negative experience: The room was tired, cold and noisy. Windows allowed a draft in and the heating was set too low to compensate. I was assured the noise I heard would stop at 8pm when the leisure centre closed but that wasn't the case. Service at breakfast left a lot to be desired.

Fantastic experience: Got the steak sandwich - very happy with it. Friend got the rib new to menu - very nice! Good portion size and will be back again

Positive experience: Outstanding view of Lough Derg. A minus for the kitchen - closed at 21:00, thus we were unable to eat something other than peanuts and crisps. Maybe I will give it another try during the day ... I forgot to mention a piece of glass I found on the floor. Big enough to be seen by everyone

Fantastic experience: Was pleasantly surprised at this welcoming beautiful hotel. Great decor, staff and food. My son loved the pool. Room was fab and warm too. Would definitely recommend a stay here. Beautiful views of the river.

Fantastic experience: Well worth a visit. Killaloe and Ballina are two lovely villages located on the Shannon and the hotel is perfectly situated between both. It's a very friendly, comfortable hotel with great food and great service. Garden s very well maintained too. And the leisure centre is a real Bonas when the weather is poor. We will definitely be back and give it a try. You won't be sorry.

Positive experience: The Staff are so lovely in the bar. Great service, Great atmosphere. We have come here as a family for years for Sunday dinner in the bar but the last two times Sept/ Oct the food was very disappointing. Small portions, not great quality and overpriced. We won't be rushing back again unfortunately.

Negative experience: We had afternoon tea on a Saturday. We were put in a corner of a room with another big party of guests. There was a wedding on the same day so i felt like we were been put in a corner out of the way. The food and service were only OK. I felt it was expensive for what we got. I think they need to designate a specific room to afternoon teas.

Fantastic experience: If you’re scrolling through these reviews to decide whether or not to have your wedding at The Lakeside, you’re wasting valuable time that could be spent locking in a date to have your wedding at The Lakeside. My brand spanking new husband and I celebrated our wedding here last week. It. Was. Spectacular. For Catherine Lewis and her team, no request was too much, no question too silly, no dress too muddy (Catherine was ready with salt and soda water). We planned this wedding from Sydney, Australia, which ordinarily would have been extremely difficult, but with Catherine, it was a piece of (wedding) cake, and actually quite fun. The location by the water was breathtaking, the food was world class, the service was 5 star, the bridal suite was fit for a king and queen. The only part we had any qualm with was leaving. We had the best day of our lives at The Lakeside. We think you will too.

Fantastic experience: Had the pleasure of being a wedding guest here. I'm 65 and have been a quite a few weddings... only one of which was my own... and this was the best food and service I've experienced

Negative experience: Room was dissapointing, not what we paid for, was not a superior room. Food in restaurant was poor, bar food was excellent. Staff were very good, hotel reception areas were nice, location was good.
