Our comment from FitFit Ireland about UCD Sports Centre:
UCD Sports Centre, located in Dublin, Ireland, boasts a fantastic array of facilities that cater to both recreational users and serious athletes. Known for having the best swimming pool in Ireland, this state-of-the-art facility offers a 25-meter swimming pool with well-maintained, clear water, ideal for both casual swimmers and intense training. The gym is equipped with a broad selection of cardio machines, weights, and functional training areas, although some users have noted that equipment maintenance could be improved.
Members will appreciate the welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff, contributing to an inclusive environment for all levels of fitness. The centre also features outdoor facilities for football, rugby, and tennis, in addition to multi-purpose indoor sports halls.
However, some users expressed dissatisfaction with the customer service, particularly regarding membership processes, where students sometimes feel overlooked in favor of paying members. Additionally, peak times can become quite crowded, and access to some areas has been reported as limited for students.
Overall, while there are some areas for improvement, UCD Sports Centre remains a top choice for individuals seeking to stay fit, offering versatile amenities and a positive environment for both students and the wider community.

UCD Sports Centre: Opinions
Fantastic experience: Great place to park for the 3 arena
Fantastic experience: Best swimming pool in Ireland!
Negative experience: Student gym that students pay for but front desk staff still prioritize paying members who are NOT students. students frequently must wait or go to lower quality gym. Important to remember that UCD is primarily a business. Not an education institute. If you’re a grown adult buying a membership for this place understand that you are part of the problem. + 75% of the time the front desk staff are horrible to students but give sloppy toppy to the members. Sometimes they are really sound. But usually not. Gym staff are awesome though
Negative experience: They have moved much of the equipment from the mezzanine gym to poolside which students cannot access most of the time. I tried to go at 3 different times today and was not able despite them saying students would have access. The mezzanine gym has no elliptical, rowing machines or proper wattbikes which is ridiculous considering students pay for this gym in the levy.
Negative experience: Updated from 5* Nice gym, great swimming pool, terrible experience this year (I've been a member for years) It's only a pay by month option now, I've sent my bank details and wasn't charged - form needs to be filled in at least two weeks in advance (no mention of it anywhere) & they can't guarantee payments will work even then. The person answering the phone sounded annoyed that I even called (after not getting a reply on my email). It's in a very convenient location for myself, but at this point considering what my other options are
Positive experience: Good atmosphere, decent pub
Fantastic experience: The UCD Sport Centre offers an impressive range of facilities that cater to both recreational users and serious athletes. Located within University College Dublin, this state-of-the-art facility provides everything from gyms and swimming pools to sports halls and fitness classes. The gym is well-equipped, featuring a broad selection of cardio machines, weights, and functional training areas. There’s also a dedicated space for group classes, such as yoga, Pilates, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). The 25-meter swimming pool is a standout, with clear, well-maintained water and ample space for both casual swimmers and those looking for more intense training. For those interested in team sports, the Sport Centre offers access to courts for basketball, badminton, and squash, as well as outdoor facilities for football, rugby, and tennis. A particular highlight is the welcoming atmosphere—staff are friendly and approachable, creating an inclusive environment for all levels of fitness. Members also benefit from the range of wellness services on offer, including physiotherapy and massage therapy. While the centre can get busy during peak times, it’s generally well-maintained and offers a good balance of affordability and quality. Overall, UCD Sport Centre is a top choice for anyone looking to stay fit, with versatile amenities and a positive environment.
Positive experience: Modern and sophisticated
Positive experience: Good sports facilities, great gym and 50 meter pool, can get very busy with student population Monday to Thursday
Negative experience: Do not buy their memberships! Horrible experience at this place. Completely irresponsible staff who are only good at taking your money, and on top of that, they're extremely rude. From the moment I purchased their expensive subscription (even by Dublin standards), a series of problems started. First, I waited for a month for them to make my access card. I went to the reception twice a week, and for the first two weeks, they told me I had to wait for the card printer. Then, it turned out I needed to have my photo taken! Hello?? No one told me this, so I ended up waiting a month just for the access card. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Their office staff can’t properly enter my bank details, so my payment doesn’t go through on my bank card (important! No notifications are coming through for potential blocks or charges, meaning this isn’t a problem with my bank or my card). As a result, at the beginning of each month, I can’t enter the facility because I come at 6 or 7 AM when no one is in the office. So, I physically cannot access the service until I find a free day to come by at 10 AM when someone is finally in the office. And yet, in early September, I already spoke to one of the office workers, and he assured me that everything would be fine by October. Now it’s mid-October, and nothing has changed. On October 15, 2024, I came to the office to terminate my contract and get a refund for the initial fee because their incompetence prevented me from receiving proper service, and they refused to give me my money back. Incredibly greedy people.
Positive experience: The gym provides ample space to accommodate students during peak times. However, a significant drawback is that the equipment is not maintained adequately, leading to wear and tear. Regular greasing is needed to extend the equipment's lifespan and prevent further damage. Despite this issue, the gym is overall excellent, offering all the essential equipment needed to build a great physique.
Fantastic experience: Excellent place to practice sports and physical activities!
Fantastic experience: Great place to do sport
Fantastic experience: Fantastic pool really friendly and helpful staff
Negative experience: The customer service is woeful. It took two months for them to fix my card so I could access the facilities. Nobody takes responsibility for issues and you will be passed off to whoever they can fob you off to. They will tell you repeatedly well thats not how something is meant to be done or that shouldn’t have happened, but will do nothing to resolve a situation. They can and will increase the membership fee during the term of the contract. They will allow you to cancel your membership but will not refund the membership sign up fee. It is €20 to bring a guest in with you no matter how long you are staying.
Fantastic experience: Swimming pool is top class. Gym on a Smaller side
Fantastic experience: This was the venue for the Monkstown Box Cup, Facilities were perfect for this event,
Negative experience: UCD Sports Centre’s processes and attitudes are 10 years out of date. Membership cancellation can only be done in person or via letter. Folding Bikes and Scooters can not be put into lockers in case ‘the battery spontaneously ignites on fire’. Memberships are a 1 year minimum with a hefty cancellation fee. The facilities are amazing, the team need to wake up.
Fantastic experience: They have a membership scheme for internal and external members of UCD. The swimming pool is excellent and the changing rooms are always clean.
Fantastic experience: We enjoyed our time in the UCD sports centre. It was very entertaining and fun, don't regret going this year! Definitely recommend.
Fantastic experience: Cheap Court bookings and easy to book online.
Positive experience: What facilities, didn’t get to play in the bowl. Grass pitches out back need some work.
Positive experience: Excellent Facilities
Positive experience: Never been getting directions for someone else
Negative experience: This is not a visitor friendly venue. Parking is difficult to find and sign posts are confusing.
Fantastic experience: Excellent place for recreation. Different fields available. Football, tennis, basketball... Recommend to visit and recreate.
Fantastic experience: Great sporting facilities, wonderful 50 meter pool
Fantastic experience: Good location and facility for sports
Fantastic experience: Nice gym of poolside, just fullof people.
Positive experience: Very good and the service that’s provided is excellent.
Fantastic experience: Nice Olympic swimming pool and wellness center
Fantastic experience: High quality facilities. The poolside gym is very complete. The classes are great. The pool is nice and the tepidarium is so worth the price.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Fantastic experience: Highly recommended
Fantastic experience: Totally amazing... Beautiful venue... Just could not find the guys changing rooms before the game
Fantastic experience: 1 of the biggest campus I have ever seen. The sports academy and area is super super big. It is a university with great courses and students from worldwide.
Positive experience: I go to rent squash courts there it is great and price is really good . You can book online and you do not to be a student to book one .
Negative experience: Unfortunately the UCD gym has been converted into a commercial facility. Its so full of corporate members it is very difficult to get to the equipment in spite of it being funded by compulsory student contributions. It closed to students from 4pm, loads of classes are corporate only, loads of personal trainers who paid to be trained by gym management now use it to access corporate customers. The plan seems to be to push students to the old worn out gym while making them pay for the new gym. The students union seem to be asleep at the wheel. Its a mess! Complete sell out by UCD President and student union. Huge queues for students who have no choice but to pay, so many private members you can't get a machine and students banned at peak times. Unbelievable! Why do students put up with it?
Fantastic experience: Nice facilities, courts and fields, olympic pool, well equipped gym too.. plenty of space
Fantastic experience: Love this place
Positive experience: Old gym but all of the equipment is decent. Does the job.
Fantastic experience: Lovely soccer stadium. B
Fantastic experience: This year we are joint UCD CAMP is so good all staff is amazing
Fantastic experience: Love it ucd is such a cool college
Positive experience: Great indoor court but annoying that they kick you out if you don't book and pay 10 quid an hour
Negative experience: They need to think of finding the solution for the heat and humidity of the gym during the summer time. I don’t think ucd fitness sport would want people suffering heatstroke at their gym! At least put a fan in the gym!
Fantastic experience: Yup UCD
Fantastic experience: Fabulous evening of hockey.
Fantastic experience: Indoor stadium with good facility for playing basketball, badminton and volley ball
Positive experience: Only use the gym but it's a good one with nice equipment! Only issue is that it gets full very quickly.
Fantastic experience: Great facilities
Fantastic experience: Nice!
Fantastic experience: Brilliant place.
Fantastic experience: We went for a tour of UCD Sports and fitness facility and Gerard was so helpful in showing us around and answering all our questions . The swimming pool was a highlight as I'm trying to attend swimming classes here
Fantastic experience: Impressive facility with lots of things to do including sports facilities - gym and pool, cinema, bar, coffee shops, communal work spaces and more
Thanks for your great review Russell! Glad you enjoyed our fantastic facilities. Rory
Positive experience: The performance gym is a mess. It's very small and it can be very very busy. During break times it's okay and there are not many people. The main gym is great but again, it can be very busy. They don't let students in from 16:45 to 20:45.
Positive experience: 4 sats as only some activates are available to public on PAYG baiss rest require a membership.
Fantastic experience: Very nice gym. Well equipped. A bit crowded.
Fantastic experience: Unbelievable facilities well maintained for all sports
Fantastic experience: Hugh playground, tennis, Gym, Basketball, Handball… Olympic level swimming pool (best in Dublin)
Fantastic experience: Helpful. The UCD pool is amazing.
Fantastic experience: Great place to work out. The staff is helpful and the court is great. I'm playing badminton and on some of the courts the light can be to harsh.
Positive experience: Great facilities especially for 50mt swimming pool as not very common to find pools like it in Dublin, great relax area with sauna, hydro massage etc, big equipped gym and all sorts of pitches. Few drawbacks as some hours it is very busy and gym courses are not that varied.
Fantastic experience: Big variety of club sports, I really recommend as a UCD student
Fantastic experience: Best Tennis Court
Negative experience: Conventional. Pretty dated equipment in the student gym. No aircon. Staff pretty helpless. Pool is good. Beyond that, wouldn’t be recommending it.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful! Swimming pool with spa zone is absolutely great, love it. And even with a lot of children, place still doesn't feel crowded. Special prices for UCD graduates.
Thanks for your great feedback Raisa, we will pass it onto our team. Rory
Fantastic experience: The best
Fantastic experience: Great sports center. The summer they are great summer camps for kids from 4 to 12 years old. The facilities there are spectacular.
Thanks for your great review Ryan, glad to hear you enjoyed the camps.
Fantastic experience: Best swimming pool in Dublin ♀️
Fantastic experience: Excellent place to watch Bohemian play Waves in ladies soccer
Positive experience: Good facilities. Just up to ref a football game
Positive experience: Its really great place and had loads of activity centre l, squash, swimming pool, cricket stadium, and rugby. Highly recommended
Thank you for your great review Saurabh.
Fantastic experience: Great
Positive experience: Great sports center
Positive experience: Most enjoyable few hours to see all the kids enjoying themselves.
Fantastic experience: Best Olympic pool in Dublin, look forward to going back, good gym and classes also.
Positive experience: Good craic
Negative experience: Very Poor & Unprofessional The Gym: The two gyms on offer (the performance and the poolside gyms) are nice structures, they have a lot of machines, weights and more. However, if you're a student that wants to go to the gym, you have a 1-2 minute window to book when the slots come available (especially for the poolside gym), the performance gym is a bit easier to get into. I am understanding of this due to the fact UCD is providing the gym for free for students. The Pool: I had decided to purchase a swim package for €99 to get better at swimming during my year at UCD. I was using the pool quite regularly, the tepedarium was closed, which annoyed me considering part of my membership was for the tepadarium. I've had a problem with my UCard (student ID that allows access to the gym and pool facilities), which staff had taken back and issued me with a new "temporary card" whilst they got the machines back up and running. I didn't mind at all, however when I went to the pool with friends, the ignorant staff told me they were not going to let me in, I informed them that I had paid for the membership and even had my membership number on me, but they refused to let me in. I really thought this was pathetic considering I was paying for this service. The Tepedarium looks great, but sadly it hasn't been opened yet because of Covid, (which is funny, because all other hotels/gyms with tepedarium facilities have re-opened, it's a handy excuse to keep costs down whilst charging patrons the same price)
Fantastic experience: What can you say for this Campus. They have more than 30 sports clubs
Positive experience: Great facility open to the public.
Fantastic experience: Great
Fantastic experience: Loved it
Positive experience: Great facilities. Essential facilities for the UCD students and the wider community.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic facilities
Fantastic experience: Amazing facility with various sport - football, hockey courts, athletics track being built. 50m indoor pool and gym. Really super facilities. Parking can be an issue at busy times.
Fantastic experience: A great Sports Centre with an amazing 50 meters swimming pool
Fantastic experience: Great venue
Positive experience: Great facilities but parking is bad news.
Negative experience: Needs the gym equipment updated
Fantastic experience: 1st time using the center,,, colour me impressed
Fantastic experience: Excellent sports facility.
Positive experience: Great facility for students can get busy early in the semester or at peak times.
Negative experience: What is the situation with the Tennis. You have no info on your website about if and when it is open, as tennis is now allowed to be played as part of covid back to work regulations. Is it still possible for NON UCD players to play as it was before? Incredible that you have no information about this on your site. You have had 2 months to put up this information. Who is 'managing' this facility?
Positive experience: Gym is well equipped, many classes available, plenty of support staff around. Tends to get crowded on certain days e.g. Mondays and at certain timings e.g. noon. There are special hours in the evening for public users (students are denied entry then).
Fantastic experience: Great facilities and good staff.. Really good for students.
Positive experience: Spacious ground for all kinda sports!
Fantastic experience: Great complex, great people
Positive experience: I gym here. Good place for a workout.
