Schull Harbour Hotel

Fantastic experience: This was a great stop on our journey through Ireland! Super friendly staff, clean rooms and the restaurant food was delicious. The town was quiet and small but close to the sea, Harbour and Mizen Head, if your looking for a short drive to a great scenic location. Quaint place to stay with high class accommodations! Would highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I utilized the pool and sauna area during my time in Schull. Very relaxing and clean space. Conor at the spa front desk was very helpful, friendly, and kind. Even gave me recommendations for things to do in Ireland. Highly recommended checking this out.

Fantastic experience: I enjoyed going down to the leasure centre. The guy working there, Conor, was really friendly and accommodating and even got some pool noodles and other floaties for my kids, they loved it. The only disappointment was that the steam room was out of order, the sauna is nice though. Pool area and changing rooms were clean, I recommend going there.

Negative experience: The room, priced at €250 per night, had a view of an industrial rooftop with constantly humming airflow modules. The room itself was old and worn out, with a TV smaller than my travel cup. The hotel is long overdue for a renovation. The steam room in the pool area didn’t work, and the breakfast was barely edible. Additionally, our room had a connecting door to another room. At 2 a.m., some guests next door started talking loudly and laughing, and we could hear everything clearly through the door. I had to bang on the door and tell them to be quiet. However, the staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the room was clean and warm. Overall, the experience wasn’t worth the money. I would not return to this hotel. It was probably the worst hotel experience I’ve had in Ireland so far.

Positive experience: Went in for dinner in the bar Friday evening. Kept it simple and I ordered fish and chips. Poor quality, small piece of fish was so over cooked and almost dark brown and batter was just full of oil that tasted so old. Not pleasant and when I asked about it being over cooked I was told that it looked fine My wife had the chowder which was ok. Won't be back.

Positive experience: Group of 4 stayed here for 1 night whilst travelling the south of Ireland. While the accommodation itself was lovely, location perfect and the food in restaurant was quite good there were a few incidents that left a bad taste. Upon check in, the member of staff was rude towards us, looking us up and down, we had paid in advance for our stay and also emailed over a list of the names of everybody staying in the accommodation due to their request about 2 weeks prior to checking in. The staff member in question proceeded to ask me (I had booked the accommodation) to write down everybodies names in front of her, and give my card details again (in case of any damages). Her manner was rude, curt & dismissive. Not how I have ever been treated upon check in. We were shown to our room and advised on a few basics. We had just been sea swimming so all 4 of us needed showers, after 1 person had a shower all the hot water had gone. Cold showers were had for the other 3 guests. The next morning we showered before check out, and there was no hot water at all. We spoke to a member of staff at reception, and a maintenance man came to the room to advise that the element had gone in the immersion. We went back to reception and they offered us to use the showers in the leisure centre, and that we could extend our check out to a certain extent. The staff members had changed the following morning and were more pleasant & apologetic than the lady who had checked us in the day before. We appreciated the gesture of letting use the leisure centre, and the apology, but the tone we were greeted with needs improvement. Wouldn't turn me off booking again as we have family in Schull, but they need to improve service.

Fantastic experience: The people who work in this hotel are absolutely remarkable. We had some issues with our travel to skull and the way that this team managed our needs went well beyond anything I have experienced. I could not recommend this place strongly enough. As an Irish man who immigrated in the 90s and travels as the world, it makes me proud that there are hotels with this level of service in Ireland.

Positive experience: Great location and stunning views. Rooms are spacious and the bed was huge. Missing a fridge in the room but has everything else you need. Pool is nice and clean, steam room was out if order but I did use the sauna and jacuzzi. Really enjoyed our stay in Schull

Negative experience: Avoid room 110 and the hotel in general. Should only be considered as a last resort. Overpriced basic hotel with mediiocre roons, inconsiderate and unaccommodating staff. Noise in our room from fan in kitchen below was similar to that of washing machine on spin cycle. Receptionist said it should be switched off by 21:00 but it wasn't and there was nothing he could do despite hotel being half empty. This is a known issue (see other guest reviews) yet kitchen staff care too liittle about guests to switch off the fan before they leave and the receptionist can't be bothered to allocate a quieter room, switch it off or relocate guests to a quieter room. We travelled 8hrs today for a family emergency, are facing a sleepless night before a long day tomorrow and this was the hospitality and service we received at the Schull Harbour Hotel. Avoid if you can.

Fantastic experience: Unfortunately we only had five days in Schull on a last minute family holiday. The apartments in the Schull Harbour hotel really fitted our needs. The location just across from Schull harbour is fabulous. Really enjoyed the hotel, dined there once which we all enjoyed. Whilst we did not use the gym,we all used the pool which was great. Great base for exploring further into west Cork...Barley Cove...Cantys Cove and the Mizen head. Nic

Fantastic experience: Gorgeous stay here, beautiful meals (breakfast is definitely worth it!) and lovely facilities (got great use out of the gym!). Felt like a breath of fresh air, beautiful views with every meal and lovely spot for some drinks just outside the hotel while watching the beautiful sea!

Positive experience: We had a lovely meal at a table overlooking the harbour. The dining room had a lovely bustling atmosphere and the service was warm, welcoming and professional. The a la carte menu was varied and we plumped for the rib eye steak which was plump and juicy and served as ordered- medium rare. The sides of portobello mushrooms and potato roasties were delicious. While the red wines, by the glass choices were limited the Rioja we selected was excellent. I saw other tables being served and other dishes on the menu looked well presented and delicious. The hotel reception person was very helpful in making a dinner reservation and advising of local services available.

Fantastic experience: We had a beautiful and heartwarming welcome! From Tilly to the manager to Naomi the wedding coordinator, even the restaurant staff....everybody was helpful, smiling, kind... They made us feel very special and we loved our time there! The food was also gorgeous! Every single dish tasted fresh and was a delight for our tastebuds! We will definitely come back. Fantastic experience: Just back from a 2 night stay at Schull Harbour hotel. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. We stayed in a 3 bedroom dog friendly apartment. The apartment is very well equipped and comfortable with plenty of space. We ate in the hotel and the food choice and service was top class. The leisure centre is a great addition to the hotel. The location is spectacular, I was lucky enough to catch the most beautiful sunset and sunrise over the harbour. Schull is a great base for exploring all of what West Cork has to offer. Would highly recommend this hotel. Thank You for a wonderful stay.

Fantastic experience: Happy to give 5 stars as staff (Cornelius and lady in breakfast room especially) really helpful and we had a lovely stay. Ticks a lot of boxes from comfy beds, cosy bathroom, useful plug points/storage/ makeup mirror ❣️, was pity that sauna and steam room weren't working during our visit but pool area is v peaceful. Breakfast: I would suggest replacing the non descript 2 sausages with one tasty locally sourced (Gubeen?) sausage and replacing the rather overly smoked (v strong) salmon of which you get a huge serving with smaller serving of lighter tasting (Union?) salmon for eggs royale. Coffee was v strong too. However these are small matters though simply resolved I would think for a more positive overall experience. Would recommend the hotel. Fabulous location, lots of great points. Would visit again for sure

Fantastic experience: I liked the polite staff. I ordered tea with lemon and tiramisu. The tiramisu is served with whipped cream on the side. I stayed at the restaurant to work, and I felt comfortable. I took a photo of the prices on the receipt.

Negative experience: We have stayed in Schull Harbour Hotel for a number of years now and we were very hopeful when it was taken over by new owners. Last year we made allowances as we felt they would improve the self catering accommodation in time. But this year when we returned for 1 week, to a 2 bed apartment, we couldn't get over the state that our apartment was in. The staff in the hotel were absolutely lovely and Ray acted swiftly to move us to a different apartment which was much appreciated. But even in the "new" apartment there were no handles on the toilets, carpets were damaged and walls were grubby. My husband contacted the GM to inform him but we haven't heard back. If the nightly rate was more affordable then maybe we would consider returning, but spending a small fortune to stay in accommodation in desperate need of a lick of paint and general maintenance is not for us!

Fantastic experience: Had a lovely overnight stay. Staff were friendly, room was clean and comfortable. Ate in the restaurant, good selection and very tasty.

Negative experience: The hotel has potential, but the lack of cleanliness and maintenance seriously undermined our stay. My family, mother, and I stayed at The Schull Harbour Hotel for two nights. While the food at the hotel was excellent, with the table staff being extremely obliging and very nice, the overall experience was disappointing. The breakfast was very good, but the condition of the hotel left much to be desired. The carpets in the hallways and landing area were dirty—initially, I thought they were stained, but it became clear they were simply not well-maintained. One of our rooms had a carpet that was noticeably worse for wear, and the net curtains were well past their prime. The bathroom sink stopper was missing. In the other room, while the carpet was in better shape, there was a sizeable chip in the bathtub. The Leisure Centre, however, was in a deplorable state. The changing rooms were absolutely disgraceful—filthy walls under the sinks, disgustingly dirty air conditioning vents, and ceiling tiles badly in need of replacement. Only two shower stalls had curtains, both of which were dirty and surrounded by black mold at the bottom. Some of the lockers were falling off their hinges. I tried to give the place the benefit of the doubt, but the toilet brush holder, with a thick layer of dirt and grime that seemed to have accumulated since day one, was the last straw.

Negative experience: Obvious they dont care if you don't come back. Reception we received was terrible. Our family room cost 379 euros without breakfast! With tired young kids we arrived before check in. Asked a few times could we be prioritised for check in. No effort made to accommodate us by a receptionist who clearly didnt care. Asked very politely could we use the pool at least whist we waited. Told no! What is the difference of couple of hours for guests to use a pool. So easy to say yes to that. After walking around the town a few times we came back to the hotel with nowhere in the hotel to wait. There is no lounge or lobby. We sat in the restaurant that was empty. We were noticed by the manager eventually and I asked again politely could we please we get our room. 15 min later we got it. Completely tarnished our view of the place so not very enjoyable. It would have been so much nicer if the receptionist just let us use the pool whilst we waited. So simple and really stupid of the hotel. But as I said they obviously dont care about repeat customers or the 10 to 20 families I will tell not to go there. No wonder Irish tourism is down this year and Irish families are choosing to go abroad.

Positive experience: The location is excellent and the room was perfect. The only disappointment was the quality of the food and the food service. We would stay again but we would not eat at the hotel

Fantastic experience: Staff were all very friendly and attentive, wonderful location and really enjoyed the selection of cured meats and cheese at breakfast. We had a lovely peaceful stay so we would 10/10 recommend to a friend and hope to return again next year.

Positive experience: I didn’t stay in the hotel so this comment is only about the restaurant. We decided to eat here after checking the menu on their QR code posted in the wall outside. Unfortunately the menu we were presented with inside was completely different and generally with more expensive options in general. I’m sure it’s not intentional but it’s sloppy. The food was good. I had the burger

Positive experience: Stayed with one of the apartments. Ok. A few bits that need fixing. Good way to accommodate a family. Amazing location. Great views. Nice service.

Negative experience: Disappointing as always. It's such a shame that they can't get a good chef and manager for this lovely hotel. It's got a captive audience to be tapped into but sad to say I couldn't recommend it. Cannot comment on the accommodation as not stayed.

Fantastic experience: Great stay at Schull Harbor Hotel Extremely friendly and helpful staff (Thank you Jacinta) Very clean and stylish hotel and room. Quiet surroundings and a beautiful town to explore The restaurant attached to the hotel was good food and friendly service After our meal we strolled around the harbor and spent two nights in a comfortable bed. If you are driving- park on the street or across the street in the fire lot. I would stay here again

Negative experience: I was previously a guest here and I was absolutely shocked at the behaviour of one of the older housekeeping ladies I think her name was ‘ Diana ‘ ?. She was verbally abusive to young teenage housekeeping staff and appeared extremely difficult to work alongside. I witnessed one of the young girls crying. This made me very uncomfortable as a staying guest. Management must take action to resolve this bullying as it is completely unfair on the other members of staff who were just trying their best and working extremely hard.

Positive experience: Lunched here using outdoor seating. Good varied menue with good range of seafood. Service satisfactory though hotel could invest in a few ice buckets for white wine. Will return.

Negative experience: The reception staff were rude from the moment we checked in. While we were checking in another guest interrupted us and instead of telling them to wait- the staff turned and acted on their request. They were unwilling to change our room when I told them the safety light on the building was so bright we could not get the room dark They never said good morning or good evening. We never ate here because I would not spend our money in a place that was not kind to their guests. The town is wondering and the locals are great. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Fantastic experience: Staff extremely friendly and nice. Amazing swimming pool, gives spa vibe. Absolutely beautiful view and location is superb with shops and pubs near by. Evening time can get a bit noisy outside a located on the main road but nothing major. Very clean room with everything you need.

Fantastic experience: We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Despite some cloudy days, unforgettable memories. Great hotel, rooms with a sea view, TV on the wall. The harbour is very close to the hotel. Hotel staff very polite, nice and helpful. Food very good. Swimming pool, two saunas, one steam and the other dry, and gym, we were there about two weeks ago, the dry one was temporarily unavailable. The hotel was very clean and well-kept. My wife and I hope to come again in July. We highly recommend this hotel. ❤️

Negative experience: 2 of us had lunch in the bar today. Veg soup, looked ok, had no flavour, just tasted like water. We had a toastie, which I assumed would be a Hot sandwich, alas, was cold, the cheese wasn't melted. The saving grace was the few chips. Wouldn't recommend to this place to anyone

Fantastic experience: After a full day of travel around West Cork and the stunning Sheep’s Head peninsula we needed a room for the night. There’s not a lot open in January so we drove to Schull and straight to the Harbour Hotel. To be honest we weren’t expecting too much but we have been absolutely blown away. The January last minute rate was incredible, the friendly and welcoming receptionist even upgraded us to a sea view room for free. The hotel itself is clean, modern and inviting. The rooms are very comfortable and very well decorated and feels more luxurious than many 4 or 5 star hotels. Off we went to the spa, which again was clean, with excellent facilities incl a hot steam room and sauna and a pool jacuzzi, there’s also a decent gym. This was the perfect remedy for our aching bodies. We decided to eat at the hotel restaurant ( not something I often do ) and I’m so glad we did. The seafood was super fresh, expertly cooked, smoked chicken Caesar salad was generous snd tasty and our desserts and coffees were excellent. We were served by the super friendly Angie who gave us great recommendations and a great welcome. The sleep was good and the breakfast the next day was just as good as the meal the night before. Again our servers were friendly, hospitable and very welcoming. We’re going to rebook with our family for a few weeks time, this is the the perfect midwinter break.

Fantastic experience: With a view like no other, the most delicious sandwiches, and the hotel so close to sea/town. It was a dream visit. All the staff go above and beyond. Eugene and his team offer a 10/10 service. I look forward to my return. The coffee is due a special mention as it was the nicest we had in town.

Fantastic experience: Stayed at the schull harbour hotel for a night after Christmas and I can not say enough good things about the stay.. From the moment we arrived to a warm atmosphere & beautiful ambience and that was just the reception. The staff are so warm friendly and professional. The room was on the second floor with a beautiful harbour view & cosiest bed , with everything we needed . The leisure centre was softly lit not bright stark lights & sauna stream room were perfect to relax followed by hot showers.. it’s so clean & obviously the staff again were. Fabulous..an amazing breakfast next day with plenty of choice & cosy warm atmosphere.. I can’t recommend it highly enough & will definitely revisit …

Fantastic experience: We had a super few days staying at hotel, everything was great. Perfect location to base yourself for exploring area. Friendly staff. Room was perfect overlooking harbour. Breakfast was best hotel breakfast we have had in a long time, good choice on menu and not buffet style which was nice. Highly recommend and will definitely be staying again.

Fantastic experience: We had a lovely weekend at schull harbour hotel for our annual family Christmas get together. The food was exceptional and the rooms were warm and spacious. Thanks to Eugene and all his staff for making it a very special occasion. Miriam

Positive experience: Finding appropriate parking when driving a big bus was impossible, we had to park by Centra and propel all the way back to the hotel. The parking outside the hotel we couldn't use as there was construction going on. When we got there eventually, we were a big crowd and they went out to the way to accommodate us, we loved that. Everybody felt rushed as the plates were collected while they were taking a break from eating, most of them are shy and wouldn't say no I'm still eating so the food got taken away. Overall the atmosphere and the food was great, clients wouldn't mind going back for lunch again.

Fantastic experience: Had the absolute pleasure of popping in to the restaurant for a soup for lunch just now. The soup was only €6.50, huge and absolutely delicious! We had an absolutely wonderful server called Cornelius, who was so professional and accommodating... A true credit to your company.

Fantastic experience: I had the pleasure of staying in this hotel on Monday 11th September. Fantastic view from my front facing room looking over sea area. Very relaxing atmosphere in hotel but at same time staff where young and very professional in all areas. Definitely will return soon. Not overpriced like most hotels.

Positive experience: The room was lovely with a pleasant harbour /seaview. A decent size. The furniture was attractive, dark wood. There's a Nespresso coffee machine, iron with board, and hairdryer. There was water in the room and two biscuits! Between us! A nice touch was a couple of coffee table books to browse. Plenty of hotel and local information available, it would have been better to have the menu included for the restaurant. WiFi was weak, we hotspotted instead to watch a movie on the laptop. Unfortunately the TV was very small and only had RTE and TG4! I found the towels disappointing, very small and rough. Otherwise it was clean, the bathroom nice but small. There's a small but lightly chlorinated blue pool with dim lighting which we enjoyed, also very hot steam and sauna rooms. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful, eggs for vegetarians, as well as pancakes or oatmeal. The buffet had fresh fruit salad and pastries as well as cereal and breads. The staff were friendly and helpful if a little overwhelmed the second day when it was busy, which was a pity as booking was required for breakfast. We didn't eat in the restaurant at night as there wasn't enough choice for vegetarians. Schull is an attractive interesting village with lovely shops and a few restaurants and pubs. It's nearby plenty of other towns with restaurants but many are closed on Monday and possibly Tuesday. There are local boat trips, a playground, areas to swim and an outdoor gym. We hope to return.

Fantastic experience: We had an excellent, late lunch here. Good menu choices. Attentive and friendly service. Bar was blissfully air-conditioned on an otherwise very hot afternoon. Recommended. Another visit tonight, for dinner. Lovely and warm inside. (Freezing outside). Imaginative menu. Very good food and good wine options. A recommended venue.

Negative experience: We went in for some lunch but there were literally no staff to serve us. We walked through the whole bar and restaurant area but couldn’t find anybody. There wasn’t even a receptionist at the desk where the phone was ringing! We waited a few minutes to see if anyone would appear, but left because nobody did. The bar was completely empty at 12:30pm on an August afternoon. We went to the townhouse instead and had a lovely lunch with a very friendly waiter.

Positive experience: Had a lovely night last night in the bar. Had drinks only, Colla mick and Co were playing, great musicians. Ray the bar manager is an absolute gentleman. Makes everyone feel welcome.

Fantastic experience: Lovely stay not overly fond of the room non view but lovely service and food

Negative experience: I booked a week in advance, paying up front, to stay a bank holiday weekend. On the evening we were to arrive, I realised we were running an hour later than anticipated, so I rang ahead as courtesy to inform the hotel. The lady who answered had no problem with this. When we arrived, it was about 10pm. The lady at reception unapologetically, informed us that our prepaid rooms were not available, as they had overbooked. She seemed very scattered and a bit "merry", didn't make eye contact and had to shout at another staff member, who also seemed quite "merry", to close the bar door so we could hear her speak. They then sent us into the bar, with the insanely loud music to wait while they tried to fix it. This made matters much worse for us, as we were left waiting for over a half hour with thumping music, unable to hear eachother speak. I wouldn't mind but there were only 6 other people in the bar. It seemed the staff were having their own little party, feeding pints to the lads playing music. In the morning we were thrown out, having booked for the 2 nights. They did apologise in the morning quite well, but kept making excuses as to why it was not their fault, when it clearly was. ("It was booking.com who confirmed the booking"). Although they found our booking immediately on their system. We ended up staying in the West Cork Hotel in Skibereen, about 20 or more minutes away. They were fantastic to us. As for Schull Harbour Hotel; unprofessional, disorganised and drunk. Fawlty Towers. Do not book here!

Fantastic experience: Very friendly and helpful staff. Waitress made an exception for us to come in for breakfast after service had closed 15 minutes prior, so it was just us in the peaceful setting. Very nice croissants and breakfast was lovely. The staff were accommodating with vegetarian choices to adapt a cooked breakfast but the menu needs to have a vegetarian cooked breakfast option. I also had lunch here and the menu is lacking in vegetarian options. Other than that a wonderful hotel, the staff are amazing and do anything to help you. They go out of their way to make your experience the best it can be. We will be back soon enough.

Although we did not stay at the hotel, we were warmly welcomed by your team who made us feel like valued guests. They were always attentive to our needs, ensuring that we had everything we needed for an enjoyable experience. We can say that the level of service was impeccable. We highly recommend Schull Harbour Hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and relaxing stay in Schull.

Positive experience: Pretty average - the two main things it had a going for it are are the location and the fact it had a pool. Stayed in apartment which wasn’t clean on arrival when complained they did clean again the next morning to be fair. They are small and a bit tired plus very small bathroom and living area. The main let down however was the disorganised staff in reception and the bar/restaurant even pretty simple things like settling a bill or taking orders seemed to be difficult. They were busy but didn’t seem equipped to deal with this from a customer service perspective. Food was ok. Bar entertainment was so loud people left as could not hear each other. Could be better with a few simple tweaks as no other hotels in the town.

Negative experience: Very lack lustre welcome, completely ignored by receptionist as we came in. Waited 20 minutes for 2 coffees to arrive. Had to go looking for someone when we wanted to pay.

Fantastic experience: I was here for my stag, from the room to the staff everything was 10/10. Clean rooms, stunning dinner and breakfast with large portions and brilliant service. Music in the bar and the staff couldn't have done enough for us. Would recommend to anyone as value for money. Will be back again

Negative experience: Has the potential to be so much more. Good location, but the lack of competition makes it seem as if it isn't even trying. Coffee machine in room not working. No toilet brush in room. Tiny TV. Minimal toiletries. Small things, but for 224 a night I would expect more. Restaurant was disappointing. Linguini dish was spaghetti, and strongly tasted of vinegar. Breakfast was 6/10. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but I feel this deserves it due to the price.

Fantastic experience: Great service on last visit. Courteous staff, with lovely bar and food service areas. Our meal was outstanding, delicious, and included very large portions.

Fantastic experience: I have stayed here a number of times of the last couple of months for work . I look forward to staying again . A really lovely hotel with great staff and great facilities. Fantastic experience: Had a lovely lunch in here next to the window overlooking Schull Pier. The food was tasty and the staff were friendly.

Positive experience: Nice hotel food is quite pricey, the staff are nice but we're very overwhelmed at breakfast when a large number of people arrived at the start of breakfast time. Rooms are adequate for a comfortable overnight. Great location of the hotel !

Fantastic experience: I didn't stay in the Hotel but I did use its Business Centre during July & August 2022. I was staying in West Cork for the summer and used the Business Centre in order to work remotely. I found the facility to be of a very high standard. The room in which its based is spacious and quiet. Each desk is well spaced out so I was able to work in comfort. The Wifi is extremely fast so I never had any internet connectivity issues. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel has been recently renovated so it is a nice environment in which to work. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a work hub in the area.

Positive experience: Stayed in Schull harbour hotel from the 11th to the 14th of August 2022. A beautiful base for exploring west Cork, have stayed here in the past and really enjoyed it . This time we stayed in one of the hotels apartments , ( apartments 5) beautiful every thing you need. Unfortunately the shower did not work correctly for our 4 day stay in the middle of a heat wave. The girl in reception was very helpful offering a spare room to shower in for one night, and the leasure centre showers for the other 3 nights. Not ideal. I would go back to Schull harbour hotel

Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff, nice breakfast, lovely pool, great location. One very small downside for our stay was our family room was at the rear so no fantastic view of the bay that other rooms have and was over the back of house working area so was a little bit noisy later in the evening-but didn’t disturb our night.
