Great National Ballykisteen Golf Hotel: Opinions
Negative experience: I had high expectations from this place but sadly I am utterly disappointed. Pros: 1. Good view of the golf court from the room. 2. The receptionist is very kind and helpful. 3. Decent breakfast choices. 4. Big room. Cons: 1. Very poor network connection and wifi is painfully slow. 2. Bar and restaurant food is overpriced and tastes below average. 3. Pillow cover was torn. 4. Bathroom floor and the bathtub is horribly slippery, even with the tiny shower mat provided. No Bathroom mat. My husband actually slipped in the bathtub and got hurt. Also the tiniest shower head I have ever seen. 5. The bathroom exhaust barely works, keeping it wet for a really long time. 6. Poor room service, the day we checked in, we were not even given water. You have to ask for every single thing. 7. No bathrobe, no slippers, no toothbrush or toothpaste or comb provided. You have to call the reception for everything. 8. The bedsheets and pillows are cheap quality and super uncomfortable. 9. The room was insanely cold at night. I had to ask for a portable heater, got a tiny fan heater, which did not make any difference at all. 10. The pool water was way too cold. Considering we paid 250€+ for 2 nights, this place just does not justify the price. Not recommend at all.
Fantastic experience: Only getting around to doing a review now sorry! We had a christening here in May in the BallyK room (with the bar & balcony) and we couldn’t recommend it enough! Heather went above and beyond to satisfy our (more my) OCD with organisation/ details she had an everything drawn out detailing what goes where for all the decorations! Everything was perfect on the day and couldn’t fault anything! We even had a kids table set up in a corner & we were given the gorgeous candy cart! Everyone admired the setup & I would 100% have another occasion here (not that she’d enjoy seeing that crazy OCD women coming again) ha. Thanks so much again Heather & to the women on reception too so sorry I can’t remember her name (she’s lovely long hair) & thanks again to the staff that facilitated us on the day too.
Fantastic experience: Reception worker is friendly
Positive experience: First time staying in this hotel. I had high expectations from the get go as the hotel looked beautiful viewing images online and also because it is a golf hotel. My expectations were not met. The room we stayed in was outdated. The carpets in the hallway were full of stains. The bar staff need to be re-trained on how to make cocktails. The breakfast was only okay. I wasn't a fan of the taste of the sausages, the rasher was hard and the hash brown was over cooked and it was all cold. Based on that stay alone I wouldn't be inclined to stay again.

Positive experience: Room was a bit dated, room smelled of stale cigarette smoke. Bed was two single beds pushed together and were two different heights. At breakfast there was only on girl trying to do everything, get tea coffee clean up , serve the buffet hot breakfast , felt sorry for the young girl.
Hi Ian, thanks for taking the time to offer your feedback. We sincerely apologize for falling short of your expectations on this particular occasion. Your comments will be address with our departmental managers to ensure a plan of action is put in place to address the issues you faced. We sincerely hope we can welcome you back to Ballykisteen in the future and hope to provide a more comfortable stay.
Fantastic experience: Very nice rooms, service is excellent.
Hi Marie, thanks so much for the positive review! We hope to welcome you Ballykisteen again in the future.
Positive experience: Swift checkin - lovely welcoming staff on the front desk and checked us in swiftly answering any questions we had and helped with any needs we had over our stay. Hotel room - lovely room with a nice view overlooking the front of the hotel. Swift room service within 4 minutes. Was lovely to open up the window and eat our breakfast in the morning overlooking the well maintained grounds. Bar - was an iffy one! When we first visited the bar we wanted food. At the desk we got handed menus and was told to sit where ever. We chose seats and browsed our menu, we then sat and sat… 20 minutes goes by and there’s 4 member of staff just standing around talking, I hopped up and walked to the bar to order when a member of staff approached me saying they were just coming over. Perfect. We order and the €5 chips come out undercooked and the brisket sandwich quite bland. Later that evening we return to get something light from the outdoor menu calamari and smash burger. The calamari was overcooked and textured. The smash burger couldn’t be reviewed as the person eating is picky requested No veg/Cheese/sauce. restaurant - there was a mishap in the kitchen and it left me without a meal while my partner ate alone. The manager offered to have my meal dropped up to my room to enjoy instead as by this point my partner was finished eating and 50 minutes passed. My key card didn’t work on arrival back to my room normal issue. I swiftly returned to the reception where there was no receptionist. The waiter with my surf and turf told me he was just dropping up the food and the receptionist would be with me. I waited and waited to then the waiter returned. He helps me with my key card issue.. I return to my room pick up my dinner from the door of my room and carry on in.. I was speechless. The pool - It’s a well kept leisure club as we were visiting around 3pm on a Friday. Golf course - No words. Near impossible to get a time slot as a hotel guest. Stayed for two nights expecting a game and didn’t even get a response to a email from last week nor any help in the golf shop..
Hi Colin, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. Whilst I'm glad to hear you were warmly welcomed by our front desk team I am truly sorry to hear about your experience following this. It’s clear that your stay did not meet your expectations, and I would like to sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I will be sure to address the issues discussed with all relevant department managers to ensure these issues are resolved. We genuinely hope that you will choose to visit us again on your future visits to Tipperary, granting us the opportunity to provide you with a more satisfying experience.
Positive experience: Unfortunately a dammit of events occurred that blurred what I thought would be a relaxing way to end my os trip. There were renovations being done , the pool was not available at all times due to local learn to swim classes ( quite frankly the change room was um unpleasant possibly due to this ) then on the last day the power was out from 9am - after 6 pm the day I planned to re pack eat in and relax I ended up sitting in ar with heater on severe occasions. What annoyed me was staff were aware the day before the was happening and I was nt informed otherwise I would of moved on elsewhere closer to my final destination. The staff in general were nice but I wouldn't stay again and won't advise others to.
Fantastic experience: Stunning place, staff brilliant, food stunning
Hi Evan. Thanks for the review we are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us!
Positive experience: I enjoyed my stay, the staff were very friendly and the food was good. My only gripe was that I found the bed to be uncomfortable, that may be a personal choice thing but certainly not to my liking.
Hey SM MC. Thanks for the positive review. We are delighted to say that some of our bed offering has been updated. We hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Was only there for a morning coffee but it's warm, comfortable & serves decent coffee!
Hey Liam. We are delighted you enjoyed your morning coffee with us. We hope you come back soon!
Fantastic experience: Everything great apart from undercooked veg offered both days. Disappointing.
Thanks for the great rating and helpful feedback John. I have shared your comments about the vegetables with our Kitchen team who will investigate this. Thanks once again :)
Positive experience: Lovely hotel only let down is the service, I found it very slow over 40 minutes waiting between the starters and the main. Then at breakfast a lot of dirty tables and people waiting to eat.
Thank you for your feedback Melissa. I have shared your comments about the service delay as well as your breakfast experience with our Food & Beverage Manager. They will be taken into consideration in our next managers meeting. Thanks again for your feedback.
Fantastic experience: We did not expect the food to be that good!! Food was slow to be served but the quality of the beef roast and pork belly made up for it. Will be back
Thanks for the outstanding feedback James, we are delighted to hear you enjoyed your meal in Junction One Bar & Restaurant! Thanks and have a lovely week! :)
Fantastic experience: Had the carvery dinner here and it was unreal, make sure your hungry because they really want to feed you, roast beef was so tender and all the veg were very tasty, highly recommended.
Wow, thanks for the amazing feedback and 5* rating PJ! We are delighted you enjoyed your meal in Junction One Bar & Restaurant - please don't wait too long before coming back for a visit :)
Fantastic experience: Love this hotel, have stayed many time's with my kid's. Great value for money, food is really tasty and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The treatments in the spa are very good value and the pool is perfect size for me, not too big or deep.
Thanks for the wonderful review Catherine, we appreciate the lovely comments! We can't wait to welcome you back to the hotel soon :)
Positive experience: Definitely doesn't feel like a four star hotel. There was no hot water in the rooms for showers after golf (there was a group of us, all had the same experience), the breakfast was quite poor (lots of long-life pre packed items like dry scones, artificial diluted juice instead of fruit juice etc, disposable paper/plastic coffee cups ), and the service from the girls attending our function room was particularly poor, they were standing around chatting to each other rather than serving people waiting at the bar and wer e quite unfriendly. It's not the worst, but definitely doesn't feel up to a 4 star hotel.
Hi there El Stanoj, we are very sorry to hear that your recent stay at Ballykisteen Golf Hotel did not meet your expectations. Your feedback is invaluable to us as we try to continuously improve our offerings. We understand that your experience was impacted by the lack of hot water in your room and the quality of the breakfast. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. Regarding the service in the function room, we will investigate the matter thoroughly and take appropriate action to ensure that our staff provides the highest level of service to all our guests. We value your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to make things right for you in the future. Kind regards, Cyril McMahon, General Manager.
Positive experience: Had food there staff very friendly food delicious
Thanks for the excellent review Breda :)
Negative experience: Went to the hotel today with the intention of having food. Decided to have a coffee first. Not impresses at all to be served coffee in a paper take away cup in a four star hotel. As a result decided to skip food.
Hi Robert, I am terribly sorry to hear about your recent experience on your visit to the hotel. I would love to discuss this in further detail and figure out a way to rectify this mistake on our behalf - please feel free to call the hotel on 062-33333 and ask for myself so we can have a chat. Kind regards, Cyril McMahon, General Manager.
Fantastic experience: The Ultimate Holiday and Relaxing Experience: Amazing location very close to Limerick Junction train station and 7 mins drive from Tipperary town a beautiful hotel is a resort with a golf course, spa and treatment center, gym swimming, steam and sauna and great staff that is always ready to help. Our stay was from a Monday and Friday and my first hand experience living in a golf resort style hotel. The PRO shop managed by the gentlemen was great. They were very helpful to answer all questions. Breakfast spread is great. Service is just top notch. Selection of tea and fresh coffee offered everyday. The staff is very friendly and goes an extra mile to sort out issues, if you are vegetarian or vegan they have gluten free and other options. They have attention to detail for any requests you might have. This place was home for me for a week and the team did everything possible to accomodate us with our dietary requirements (Billy and the team in the restaurant was super nice and very friendly - Olivia was always there to help with a smile since day one. Other team members and staff - Chloe, Roisin's, Kate, Emily and Denis all very experienced and professional to demonstrate "Service with a Smile attitude" The staff at reception provided great advice on what to do around the resort. We enjoyed the walk and visit to the Glen of Aherlow and Galtee Mountain views. Met some great bunch of people at the resort the locals are very friendly and you meet good people at good places.
Wow Jay, thank you so much for taking the time to share your fantastic review of your stay at Ballykisteen Golf Hotel! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed our convenient location, beautiful surroundings, and exceptional service. Your kind words about our staff, especially Billy, Olivia, Chloe, Roisin, Kate, Emily, and Denis, mean a lot to us. We're delighted that we were able to accommodate your dietary needs and provide you with a memorable experience. We hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: Family of 3 just back from a stay in this hotel. Honestly the hotel itself was great! Lovely spacious room, comfortable beds. Reception staff were great! So friendly. Excluding the reception staff and a male bar staff, the rest were incredibly rude. The night we were for dinner we asked for menus for the bar food and the girl we asked came back with one menu, no kids menu when there was clearly a small child with us. She practically threw the menu at my partner. The next morning we went in for breakfast and I stood at the hot counter for about 5 mins to then be greeted with ‘yes, what do you want?’ We would never in a million years expect a person to be overly friendly or anything but a hello with a smile when you’re working in a hotel doesn’t go a stray. It’s very disappointing as we were planning on booking an extra night but because of the way the staff were acting we decided against it. Again lovely hotel but the staff (not all) let it down. This will stop us from booking your hotel again.
Hi Natika, thank you for taking the time to write your review. While we're glad you enjoyed the hotel and its facilities, I'm truly sorry to hear about the negative experience you had with our food offerings. We have zero tolerance for the way you were treated, and I assure you that the managers and their teams have been addressed to ensure this doesn't happen to future guests. If you find yourself in a position to stay with us again, please don’t hesitate to call the hotel and ask for me directly—I will personally look after your booking. Thank you again, Natika. Have a great week. Kind regards, Cyril McMahon, General Manager.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fabulous stay fantastic facilities pool , sauna, steam room and jacuzzi as part of the stay. The room was large very comfortable only small thing was in a double room but the the bed was two singles pushed together would have preferred double bed but still very comfortable stay.Had breakfast next morning also delicious well served very good staff attentive all round 10 out of 10 girl at reception desk and absolute delight very helpful . Emily I think is her name. All and all highly recommended would definitely come back again.
Hi Theresa, thanks for the wonderful review. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. I will be sure to share your comments with the team internally & in particular to Emily who is an asset to our Reception team. Thanks once again, have a lovely day :)
Positive experience: Played round of golf.. lady at pro shop very helpful and nice course although the greens were looking a bit rough...
Hi Pat, thanks for your kind feedback - we are glad you enjoyed the round of golf. I have passed on your comments about the greens to our groundskeeper. Thanks once again.
Fantastic experience: Been staying here for the past 10 years. Its always a pleasure to stay here, a high light of our holiday.
Thanks for the wonderful feedback Patricia! We are so happy to hear that each time you stay with us we manage to provide an enjoyable, relaxing stay for you and your family. We cannot wait to see you again, have an amazing weekend! :)
Negative experience: Not very happy with our stay. The bar service was very slow with food. There was a strong smell of chlorine when we arrived at the reception area. The travel cot didn't have a mattress it was very hard. Not sure if that's a thing to not have that but would hope to be told so that I could plan. Room was ok. But the shower was damaged. Not sure it suits a couple with small baby of 17 months as not much to do with kiddo that small.
Hi Ann, thank you for taking the time to write your review. We are sorry to hear that your stay was less than satisfactory with us. We usually aim for much higher standards with our food service, and it seems we let you down on this occasion. I would love to speak with you in more detail about your experience. If you could call the hotel on 062-33333 and ask for me directly, I’m sure we can find a resolution. Thanks again, Cyril McMahon, General Manager.
Positive experience: Decor of rooms could be updated but everything you need was provided and the room was spotlessly clean. Lovely and quiet, ideal spot for golfers and race goers. Overall a nice hotel but could do with a some modernisation throughout the hotel.
Hi Mairéad, Thank you very much for the positive review. We are happy you enjoyed your stay. Your comments will be passed on to management. We hope to see you again soon!
Positive experience: I visited here on August 11, and I had a great experience. There was a party for people in wheelchairs with Arthrogryposis. And it was fabulous! We had a room to stay in for about 8-9 hours, and the room was alright. There was a desk table for some sort of office work for college or stuff. The swimming pool has no wheelchair access, unfortunately, so wheelchairs can't go swimming without a hoist machine to carry them, I went to the party around 17:09, and it was great! The waitress was very friendly, the drinks were quite expensive, the food was lovely, the giant duck spring roll was the best thing to have with salad, and then I had about 7 or 8 chicken tenders with mashed potatoes on the side, and the ice cream with the brownie was fabulous! Had a few drinks, and I partied out for the disco around 22:00-23:00, and I had a blast! Overall rate for the hotel, 9/10! I will visit here again in the future! And hopefully, sometime, there will be more parties in the hotel for the future! Had a lovely experience, as the staff were friendly!
Thanks for the incredible feedback, Joshua! We appreciate the time you took to share your experience. We're thrilled you enjoyed the party at our hotel and hope to welcome you back again soon. Have a great day!

Fantastic experience: The food was really tasty, but i would have liked a better size chicken breast. The staff were really helpful. will call by again
Thanks for your kind rating James, we value your comments about your meal and I can assure you I will pass them on to our Kitchen team to avoid future disappointment from another guest. I do hope you will come back for a visit soon, much appreciated :)
Fantastic experience: Simply the best!!! Amazing staff Amazing food Amazing Guinness Sauna, jacuzzi and steam room perfect even if you don't play golf Try the chowder it's world class
Thanks for the outstanding feedback Stu, glad to hear you enjoyed your stay! Please don't wait too long before returning for a visit :)
Fantastic experience: My all round experience was top quality... excellent all round
Thanks for the incredible feedback Daniel, much appreciated :)
Negative experience: Very poor service in a comfortable hotel. If young staff were shown the importance of saying please or thank you with a smile it would be a nicer place to frequent.
Hi there Joe, I am sorry to read about your disappointing experience in Ballykisteen. I would really appreciate it if you could give the hotel a call (062-33333) and ask for myself so I can investigate your complaint a little further. Thanks Joe. Kind regards, Cyril McMahon, General Manager.
Fantastic experience: My wife and I recently had our wedding at this hotel and there are no words for how exceptional everything was from start to finish. Every single member of staff were amazing - including Ellie, Chloe, Billie, there is too many to name. Heather our wedding coordinator was fantastic every step of the way. No request was too big or silly. She made sure the whole day was everything we dreamed of and more. I honestly couldn't don't have enough words to describe how amazing she was to work with. She was quick with email responses and kept us updated throughout. Each meeting we had with Heather was so worthwhile. Melanie, the duty manager, is an absolute credit to this hotel. We first met her at our menu tasting and she was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. She stayed with us all day and for most of the night too to make sure everything ran smoothly. Honestly, the staff in the hotel are an absolute credit. Every single guest of ours said the same too. Thank you everyone at Ballykisteen for making our dream wedding come true
Hi there Aoife, thank you so very very much for your incredibly sweet and detailed review. Your wedding was one of our favourites to host at Ballykisteen and we were grateful for both yourself and Tiffany choosing us. Rest assured, your kind words about Ellie, Chloe, Billy, Heather & Melanie will be shared internally with the entire team. Please don't hesitate to come back for a visit in the near future. Enjoy married life!

Fantastic experience: A great place for golf. The food was good and the staff made a real effort.
Thanks for the great review Ben :)
Fantastic experience: We love Ballykisteen for a number of reasons. The staff are so friendly and Chloe expertly made us beautiful cocktails on Sunday. Dinner was magnificent with Tomahawk steak to die for. Bread pudding is incredible and compliments to the very talented chef indeed. Can't wait to come back and visit in the near future. 10 out of 10 all round...... Marcella and John.
Wow John, thanks for the exceptional feedback! We remember yourself and Marcella dining with us and you both were just as much a pleasure to look after. We really do hope you don't wait too long before coming back for a visit! Have a wonderful day :)

Fantastic experience: I'm a member of Ballykiteen Golf club and the Leisure centre. All the staff in the hotel, golf shop and leisure centre are excellent. After cardiac surgery l couldn't play golf but I was able to use the pool under medical supervision. It was instrumental in my recovery as l could walk in the pool (when l wasn't allowed swim) pain free. Because the pool is open from 7am-10pm it was so convenient. We are so lucky to have these facilities at our doorstep and lucky to have Grahan and Chloe to make it even more enjoyable. They are second to none. 5 stars from me. Pat Ryan

Fantastic experience: I am a member of the leisure center in Ballykisteen Golf, Hotel & Leisure Centre since its inception. It has grown from strength to strength. Overall this is an excellent hotel especially the leisure center and pool area (under the excellent management of Graham). From the staff at the reception (who are always so friendly) to Graham the leisure center manager (who is also assisted by Dylan) are exceptional and a credit to the place. We love our Aquafit on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You come out from class feeling on top of the world! The facilities are top class also and they have a great selection of classes run for all ages and abilities. The pool is always a lovely experience. I would highly recommend a visit there as you won't be disappointed. I will be a member there for life! Mary Ryan

Positive experience: This is a three star hotel. The service is a mix of really warm and kind to cold. The food alright, definitely seems like they substituted a lot of things with a lower quality version and kept the original price tag. Our room, a double, was two beds stuck together. That being said it was comfortable and soft. Our shower switch in the tub was missing so we had to fiddle with a screw before we could shower. The pool looked fine but more for kids, chest deep all the way through and quite small. Seems like a hotel you get if you're passing by, using it for the golf or race course nearby, or a break with the family. Not really a place for a couple on a hotel break.

Positive experience: Was only there for the pool/thermal, male changing rooms where some what clustered with other guests clothes even there are lockers it appeared nobody was using them. The pool area was clean but the pool itself is small. The jacuzzi was cold and after speaking to another guest who uses the facilities frequently stated that it's hit and miss at best of times. The sauna and Steam room where the same not the right temperature.

Positive experience: Situated within a kilometer walk from the Limerick Junction. (Perhaps, the hotel should have a shuttle service to & from Limerick Station). The staff was polite & cooperative. The hotel was decorated well because of Christmas. The room was neat & tidy but not soundproof, therefore disturbance from the next room. Limited TV channels. Good internet. No heating from late night to noon but was available during evening. Room slippers were provided on request. Basic toiletries were there but the ones available in a 4 star hotel were missing. The meal was neither good nor bad. Breakfast wasn't good at all except fresh fruits & juices. It was limited to the daily english menu, nothing special. No 24 hours kitchen services. Requested coffee late night but denied.

Positive experience: I recently visited this hotel and I can say it was such a pleasure, everybody was so welcoming from my first point of contact until I was leaving. I enquired about swimming lessons for my daughter and came across a wonderful gentleman called Graham who did everything to help me in any way he could and I can't thank him enough, he even gave me a tour of the pool and the facilities that they have just to keep my mind at ease which I found so generous. Everything was so easy going and I will definitely be back here again in the future.

Negative experience: Food in the bar was almost completely inedible. People were openly vaping at the bar and staff said nothing to them. Was woken up during the night as there were a group of people smoking in the corridors. Steam room and jacuzzi were both broken as well to top it off. Staff were friendly though. Nearly 200 euro a night for that.

Positive experience: The hotel is ok, more of a 3 star than 4. The room was clean and quiet though it was on the small side. Breakfast was tasty however the bar food we had on our first evening was terrible. Overpriced for a tiny bowl of lasagne and a bland veg curry with rice. I had to ask for the extra sides - naan bread and yoghurt dip. A short drive from Tipperary town.

Negative experience: Very poor service, no kids food at buffet so had to be ordered and was delivered when adults had finished their meals. Tea after dinner was given in a paper takeaway cup as no cups available it was a complete shambles. Shocking to see ballkisteen go down this way it has so much potential to be an outstanding hotel. Decor also very shabby and dated.

Positive experience: Lovely comfortable hotel with plenty of facilities, including a golf course, swimming pool, steam room and beauty room. Tipperary Race Course is just across the road, as is Limerick Junction railway station. Good friendly service, Nice food but was served only luke warm to us. Maybe heating the dinner plates might have helped. Friends reported having trouble getting through to the hotel staff on the phone switchboard. Keep trying.

Positive experience: Beautiful art deco hotel. Rooms are spacious. Food was excellent apart from same menu for bar and restaurant. The bar was a let down. No rose` wine and the red ale "was flat but i cud try it if I wanted"! Tea dishes from 3pm still on table outside at 830pm. I'd say it's a v good 3 star hotel, but not quite up to standard of 4 star.

Positive experience: Would have been 5 stars but for me traveling as a coach party, the evening meals were a shambles, mashed potatoes every night and the same vegetables every night. The hotel is spotless, the staff can't do enough for you .

Negative experience: Nice setting outside hotel but poor inside service slow food was very average and just seemed disorganised prices in bar quite good for 4* but service isn't on that level
Fantastic experience: No robes in the room. I booked the flotation therapy, but with no robe had to wrap myself in tiny towel to come back to my room. Only saw afterwards that I needed to request a robe at reception. Too late then. Towels in bathroom far too small, barely covered my body.
Negative experience: Came down to stay for 1 night. I expected more from a 4-star hotel. The hotel looks old, worn, and unkempt. Our room was a good size, the towels were not large enough for a normal sized man, but you can pay 2 Euro for a larger size, ridiculous. The extractor fan did not work in the bathroom, so after 1 shower the mirror was as good as useless, no good for my partner. There were only 2 sachets of coffee, not good enough. When we pulled back the throw on the end of the bed, we were greeted by a large clump of hair, pretty disgusting. We tried the bar, limited draught beer, the wine was warm, and glasses warm. I asked for a gin and tonic, it was given to me in a tumbler, no ice and no slice, these are the basics! At breakfast, the trays were dirty, old food, crumbs, etc. The food was overcooked, a skin on the fried eggs that was non edible, all poor quality, and just very poor. Overall, it was a poor show for an expensive hotel.
Fantastic experience: The rooms were nice and big and very clean but could use an update. It's look like going back to the 90's. Staff was very friendly and the breakfast was perfect.
Negative experience: Room are ok. Other than that, a pretty average hotel that probably used to be nice. Has clearly fallen on hard times. Food is very average and usually over cooked. Changing rooms are horrible. Dirty, no shower curtains for months and no soap / shampoo provided. Staff are very nice though.
Positive experience: Lovely hotel. Nice friendly staff. Some wasps and flys in the Bar, which was a bit annoying during dinner. The food was nice. The pool is a little on the small size, but the kids enjoyed it. Breakfast was nice this morning, again, with nice and friendly staff.
Positive experience: I'm posting three stars because of the poor meal we had. The burger was pink in the middle (a big red flag) and had to be sent back. On its return it was the same burger and not much better. The bacon was white and limp. I had the steak, pricey at €30, but the pepper sauce tasted 'floury', definitely not cooked properly. I'm hoping the chef is on holidays because, if this is the norm, it is not good.
Fantastic experience: no bar menu during the day, only full carvary lunch which isn't ideal if you only want a sandwich. Nice food though , very quiet on bank holiday Monday. good parking. near Limerick Junction train station.
Fantastic experience: Loved my stay here in Tipperary bar staff were very pleasant and friendly and food was gorgeous although we were waiting quite awhile for our food to come but we were entertained by the friendly bar staff (Chloe in particular was extremely helpful!) I wasn’t overly impressed by the room furniture seemed quite dated and it could do with a deep clean or revamp but overall had an amazing stay!
Negative experience: No shower curtains in swimming pool dressing rooms for weeks. Clumps of wet hair on the floor in the shower area, and no toilet roll in either of the two ladies toilets there. Sauna and steam room out of operation periodically. Shocking and a real shame as this was always a great facility but standards seem to have gone downhill.
Positive experience: Nice hotel.. good location.. good food.. Lacks a bit of atmosphere.. some furnishings are a little tired. Clean... comfortable.. good value
Positive experience: Our room was very nice and clean, the water in the fridge was a nice touch, our meal at the wedding was lovely and the service was fine, however, the breakfast was and is a huge letdown, it's only lukewarm and the self service coffee machine is a poor touch for a hotel, service on a Sunday says 11am, we went down at 10.40 and most of the items were taken away. We were served a fairly poor fry with sausages I wouldn't give to a dog, friends that also attended turned up at 10.50 to be told by a waitress that breakfast was finished, but a waiter said he'd get them something, they asked for scrambled eggs with gluten free bread as the wife is Coeliac, 2 bowls of very wet scrambled eggs came out but no bread, it was asked for again and came out frozen, obviously it couldn't be toasted in the toaster as bread is toasted in it, so the frozen gluten free was left along with some of the sopping eggs. A disappointing end to an otherwise great weekend.
Negative experience: Has lunch there on June 15. Worst service we ever had in our lives. Apparently totally forgotten and , when we eventually received our food, it was far from impressive. Slow and sloppy service with no attention to detail delivered by careless staff who appeared to have had little or no training
Fantastic experience: Lovely hotel. My daughter really enjoyed her stay
Negative experience: I don't like to give a bad review, but I'm not sure how this is a 4-star hotel Staff were nice and helpful. The hotel is OK, but it's very outdated and needs to be done up. The pool is fine, but the hot tub is cold. The golf course looks good, and the views are brilliant.
Negative experience: We were there yesterday for lunch. Staff very friendly. Price very expensive for what we got. I had turkey and Ham. Very dry. Chips instead of mash . Chips very poor so was the Veg. My partner had a burger with out the bun . You would not see the burger as it was so small. He got mash and the same veg as me too much brocoli 16.50 Euro. We have no problem with the price of food if the quality is good. Left very disappointed. Not sure if we will go back again. Expensive but just not worth it.
Positive experience: My favourite part about my stay at this hotel was the food. Absolutely delicious! And the staff were amazing too, especially with our small children. What a lovely experience. My only complaint was that our bed seemed quite old. It was springy and tilted a bit when you changed positions. That said, family staying in the hotel said their beds were good, so it might have just been our room. Also, the hot tub was really only luke warm, but in the end that was okay because we were able to take our children in it for that reason. I liked the fact that they had a pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room to enjoy to begin with.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous experience, beautiful scenery, excellent front of house, bar and restaurant staff very friendly service ,
Positive experience: Stayed for 1 night, room only - overall - stay was okay (average). Check-in was very poor - completely felt like we were an inconvenience to the person checking us in - and the experience was very 'robotic'. The room size was quite good - bathroom was very spacious. The room was very clean - but, decor wise, it was extremely dated/tired - stuck in the early 00's. Plenty of storage - no issue there - but a lack of attention to detail was slightly off-putting - i.e.: the door on the press for the fridge and the press underneath the TV were not level. Yes, I wholly appreciate that this wouldn't annoy the majority of people - and I can genuinely say that it didn't annoy me either - my point here is that it shows the hotel is not paying attention to their product, that they are letting standards slip - and this is disrespectful to customers. The room could have done with a proper armchair - the room we had certainly did not look like the bedroom images on their website and via Google Images. The TV size was acceptable - however, the channel selection was Terrible - it was basically just the 7 Irish Channels. For a four star hotel, in 2023, this is utterly unacceptable. Whilst everything worked fine in the bathroom, the tiles on the floor were cracked and the tiles on the side of the bath were starting the 'come away' from it - which also had black mould on them. There was also 'discolouration' where the wall tile met the bath - nothing major - but again, just shows a lack of attention to detail and that there isn't much attention being put on maintenance. However, the "guest information" book/pack, was brilliant - one of the best I've ever seen - it covered everything that was needed in the hotel and then provided suggestions of things to do in the area - they also provided the mobile phone weblinks to their suggestions. One excellent addition they had for this was a QR Code that provided the full Guest Information book/guide to be available on your mobile phone. Unfortunately, lack of attention to detail was evident again with their information. The (physical) guide stated that room service was 24 hours, with a limited menu after 10pm. But the QR information said that room service was from 12 noon to 9pm. Again, it's nothing major - but it's certainly not very professional. I know it's rated as a four star hotel - from what I experienced, I'm not sure I'd agree with that rating. It's certainly an excellent 3 star - I just didn't see anything 4 star about it.
Fantastic experience: Lovely food friendly staff. Good location. One of my daughters' favourite places
Positive experience: Understaffed and very few residents when we were there. Food was good, staff were friendly but poorly trained. Pool is very small, good for playing in but not for swimming. Hotel itself is nicely laid out and has potential.
Positive experience: 12 euros for a glass of red wine , 16 euro for a bottle in a supermarket, happily my son paid for it
Negative experience: Bar food and service a disgraceful. Bar staff terrible not just on one occasion someone needs to wake up here

Negative experience: Well I came here for a family event the room smelt of damp and mould then that brings me to the bedroom and I was disappointed as there was dust on some surfaces and down the side of the fridge. Then there was loud music playing until 2:40 in the morning and I couldn’t get any sleep. The next day went to have a family meal and we had to wait ages to order then staff forgot people didn’t get there food orders and what food did come was a sloppy mess I will never stay or recommend this place to anyone unless new management and staff take over!
Negative experience: An email I sent to hotel which wasn't responded to. On Sunday at 9am I attended the swimming pool with my 2 year old son. The pool was absolutely freezing and we didn't stay in long. After our shower I noticed the hair dryer was out of order so I asked at reception if there was a spare hairdryer. The receptionist kindly gave me one, but unfortunately there was no plug in the changing rooms so I had to blow dry his hair at the lobby area, thankfully it was quiet, as this was quite an embarrassing situation. The hair dryer was also blowing freezing air and wasn't working properly. My parents then came into meet us for breakfast, they live nearby we were not staying over night. My dad told the lady at the breakfast area that we were not hotel guests and we just simply wanted breakfast, she shrugged and waved to just sit where ever we liked. We asked for a high chair for my son and we were given one that was absolutely filthy. We had to then ask another staff member to clean it, and she was very rude and didn't seem impressed by our request and she didn't even clean it satisfactorily. We had to constantly ask for milk, what's the coffee situation etc and the trays were all also filthy. There was an overall, "we don't care" attitude from all the staff serving breakfast and the food also wasn't great. We told the receptionist on the way out that we were not happy with everything that happened and to pass on the info to management which she agreed she would. I was very disheartened to pay €30 for breakfast that wasn't enjoyable and €5 for swimming which wasn't a pleasant experience. Working in different industries over the years I feel its important to highlight feedback where needed and I honestly hope this is reviewed and taken on board, and resolved. For the hotels sake. Unfortunately we won't be returning again, until we know there's been an improvement in quality and service. I know this hasn't always been the case as I have attended many dinner events here in the past which have been very enjoyable.
Positive experience: Just returned from a very pleasant stay. My room was clean, spacious, well fitted and comfortable with a view overlooking the golf course. Meals in the restaurant (though the menu was limited) were good and reasonably priced, with a good atmosphere. I did not try the leisure facilities, but they looked extremely well appointed. What stood out for me were the the staff. Without exception, everyone I met was accommodating, friendly, efficient, professional and most pleasant. The only reasons to give four stars not five is the continental breakfast was disappointing( though this is understandable as the hotel was quiet) also, over 4 days there was a constant buzzing noise in the background from my room (104) Maybe heating system etc. Otherwise, an excellent stay.
Negative experience: Following on from the review I wrote below I forgot to mention in that review that My Mother ordered the Ballykisteen Beef Burger in the menu and she made it clear to the Waitress that she didn't want any bacon in the Burger and when she got the Burger there was bacon in it and when she brought it to the Waitress's attention she was asked did she want it sent back and Mam said yes and when the Burger was sent back Mam noticed that there were no Onions in her Burger after Mam made it clear that she wanted Onions in her Burger so she again brought this to the Waitress's attention so the Waitress asked her did she want her to get her Onions and Mam said Yes and the Waitress brought Mam back raw Onions which we were appalled at as everybody knows that you don't give someone raw Onions for a Beef Burger. As I said in my last review we are very disappointed and we won't be going back there again.
Negative experience: My parents and i stopped by for quick food on our way home. This quick food turned into a 30 minute wait for food which came in a minature portion. The prices were high and the staff were not very attentive. I would not recommend
Positive experience: Good family hotel. Nice small pool and steam room sauna. Food and service was very good. Room was warm. Golf course looks in great nic. 30km from limerick city.
Fantastic experience: My daughter and I had a lovely 1 night stay in this lovely hotel. Had lovely Turkey dinner in the bar followed by delicious cheesecake! Of cappuccinos to follow. Really enjoyed our stay. All staff were friendly and helpful. Prices very reasonable! Mary
Positive experience: Stayed here for one night, it was very cold from the minute we arrived into the hotel, heating in room didn't work and toilet door didn't close in the room. When we arrived there was a woman standing in reception given out about been over charged. Rooms were very noisy as we could hear kids running up and down the corridor. Breakfast was disappointing, hotel seemed over staffed and tripping over each other but not well trained it would seem. Staff all friendly enough but not restaurant trained. Breakfast items were very limited, but the menu on the tables would make you think otherwise. No fresh pasteries or fruit available. Coffee was out of a machine and self servicd and not great at all. Hit food was served at the counter by a staff member but everything was a wait as the chef was cooking bit by bit, so the eggs and sauages were arriving on different plates which was very silly. Dinner in the restaurant was also poorly run, again loads of staff tripping over each other, when we entered it wasn't busy, it took ages for someone to come take our order, food was over priced for what we got, drinks arrived out in the wrong glasses. The family sat beside us did nothing but give out about the terrible service, which was disappointing. Furniture seemed very dated and staff need to be trained on our to run a restaurant. Overall I don't think this should have a 4 star rating for a hotel based on my views above.
Positive experience: Room was a bit dated and bathroom could do with some attention. No hashbrown or alternative for breakfast. My poached egg came on white sliced bread. I have IBD so I couldn't eat it.
Positive experience: We really enjoyed our stay here as the hotel was lovely, staff were very friendly, food was really nice and our room was nice and clean. We tried loads of cocktails and they were amazing. However, one fault we found was that it was really cold. Now I know it was a cold night but there was no heat on throughout the hotel or our room. Overall, beautiful hotel and prime location for golfers!
